Lev Parnas, ex-associate of Donald Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, guilty of violating US campaign finance laws
Lev Parnas, a onetime associate of Donald Trump's former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, has been found guilty of violating US campaign finance laws during the 2018 elections.
The verdict was returned in Manhattan federal court, where the Ukraine-born American businessman was on trial for more than two weeks.
Prosecutors accused him of using other people's money to pose as a powerful political broker and cozy up to some of the nation's star Republicans.
Parnas and his former associate Igor Fruman were accused of soliciting funds from Russian businessman Andrey Muraviev to donate to candidates in states where the group was seeking licenses to operate cannabis businesses in 2018.
The 49-year-old also concealed that he and Fruman, who pleaded guilty in September, were the true source of a donation to a group supporting Republican then-president Trump, prosecutors said.
