The gunman who shot and killed two people and wounded at least five others before killing himself Friday had a history of arrests for grabbing women, according to Leon County court records.

Scott Paul Beierle, 40, was arrested in 2012 on a charge of misdemeanor battery after allegedly grabbing the buttocks of two women on the campus of Florida State University, according to Leon County court records. He was arrested again in 2016 on a battery charge after allegedly slapping and grabbing another women’s rear end by the swimming pool at the West Tennessee Street apartment complex where he lived.

The State Attorney’s Office filed information in both cases. However, prosecutors eventually dropped the charges.

I don't even know what to say anymore.

Is it too early to start asking how these murders affect gun owners and their rights to own guns?

If not, I'd just like to note that such a hopefully random and no incel-like incident is tragic and sickening. If this guy was an incel loser, makes it even worse. Graduated in '03 with an age of 40 indicates he didn't graduate college on time, about 3 years late, so maybe he had some mental health drama in his life as well.

Outside of marathon, I can't think of any other place that would be the last place to come to mind with senseless violence than a yoga studio.

Hey, I graduated way late. My kids also graduated after age 22. Life happens to all of us. I know from experience what can keep you from graduating at the proscribed time and how much effort it takes to go back to school in your 20's, 30's or 40's. I've done it all! Damn near pursued another degree in my 50's but was diagnosed with cancer (I'm fine now) and decided not to try to juggle cancer + grad school + full time job + marriage/family in my 50's. Not a damn thing wrong or suspect with going back to school after your early 20's. I know I am prejudiced but frankly, I find it admirable.

On the other hand, I think it is pretty safe to say that most people who walk into a (school, theater, church or other house of worship, nightclub, gym, hotels overlooking concert venues, grocery store or yogo studio or whatever) and start shooting have serious mental health issues. Which is not at all to say that most people with mental health issues would ever even consider doing such things. Anymore than most white men would ever even consider doing such things, even though most of the perpetrators of such actions are white males.

Alvin Toffler popularized the phrase "information overload" in his book 1970 "Future Shock". The phrase "future shock" itself means "too much change in too short of time". In the US we've seen massive information advances in a single generation. We are almost instantly aware of major problems, calamities and catastrophes in First World nations and often in Third World nations. The US has over 240 million adults. As IQ and mental health bell curves show, most people fit within a normal spectrum, but others do not. If just one out of a 100,000 adults were murderously violent, out of 240M, that'd leave 2400 violent adults running loose with trucks, pressure cookers, baseball bats and, yet, guns. Richard Speck murdered 8 nurses in one night armed with only a knife. Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel murdered 86 people and injured over 450 others by driving a truck through a crowd. While these murders play prominently on the news, the fact remains they are very rare.

The solution, IMO, is more R&D into mental illness and the means to identify both mentally ill people, those who are violent and cures for such conditions.

Agreed about mental illness. White males are also have a higher number of suicides....usually with a gun. I'm guessing the fact over 75% of the US population is white and just under half are males has something to do with it.

Then one would think that about half such shootings would’ve carried out by women, but such cases are quite rare.

If one were to develope a profile for a likely mass shooter, it would be a white male, unmarried and probably a loner.

There is a distinct biological difference between men and women. Perhaps you've heard of it. :)

Although controversial, when Louann Brizendine's book "The Female Brain" came out 12 years ago, it was (and still is) controversial (mostly because of feminists). However, it did point out, as most of us know, we're all female until about (IIRC) six weeks of development when the Y chromosome kicks in for males. It destroys parts of the speech center and ramps up aggression. Genetically speaking, men are expendable since it only takes one to impregnate an tribe although it takes more to defend it and to provide genetic variation.

Like dogs, if you want to apply eugenics to men and try to breed out their aggressive traits to the point they become effeminate metrosexuals, that might work, but there are unforeseen consequences since the differences are not fully understood.

Beierle was known to be violent to women, having been arrested for grabbing them in the past.
In videos posted online and found by BuzzFeed, he identified himself as involuntarily celibate, or “incel.” He is the second incel to kill innocent people in Florida this year.
Scott Beierle killed two women at a Florida yoga studio on Friday night. He had posted a series of misogynistic videos and songs online, and appeared to identify as an “involuntarily celibate.” This is the second deadly attack by an “involuntarily celibate” in 2018.
Back in 2014, Beierle posted several YouTube videos of himself “offering extremely racist and misogynistic opinions.”
...

Should clowns like this self described incel be hunted down and have any guns they own taken away for the safety of others?

This guy was identified as a nutjob years ago. Why was nothing done? Anyone who claims to be "involuntarily celibate" should be treated as a hostile mentally ill person.

No. However, when they commit crimes initially like he did, they should get restrictive probation and therapy. They should be rehabilitated and fixed, not let go because of white male privilege.

Agreed such people should be restricted and given treatment, disagreed there is anything such as "white male privilege". It's a problem of lacking mental health technology and the legislation to back it up.

Doesn't matter if you agree or not about white privilege as he was let go without rehabilitation and should not have been. If govt is going to be lenient with white males like that, then they need to do more somewhere else, such as with access to guns by mentally ill people.

Disagree--it's quite possible to be involuntarily celibate without being a nutter.

There's those who are involuntarily celibate and then there's the nutjobs who run around whining about it.

Personally, I just feel very reassured that there is no reason to be concerned about guys who stalk women, grab them or hit them playfully on the buttocks. They’re likely just a bit lonely and socially awkward.

The entire incel issue should be resolved by drafting women into sex service, analogous to armed military service.

And more guns. Cannot emphasize this enough.

"We need to take mental illness more seriously in this country."

*5 minutes later*

"That guy is a nutjob!"

Why was nothing done? Anyone who claims to be "involuntarily celibate" should be treated as a hostile mentally ill person.
Curious, what is the clinical diagnosis?

I fail to see the problem. Do you have a point you wish to make? Are you agreeing mental health care is lacking in our country or are you satisfied with the level of mental health care?

Ask a shrink.

Yeah. I would say the incel crowd is in nutter territory. They are nowhere near all the involuntary celibates, though.

Yup. That's the usual recipe for violence: Take something that is a substantial problem for a person (and involuntary celibacy is a big issue for it's victims) and blame some external factor. It's usually due to recruiters (this is the usual formula for recruiting suicide attackers) but sometimes a community (in this case the incels) can do it to themselves.
