I'm really curious as to how this is going to impact Umbrella Academy season 3...

Elliot Page's announcement leaves 84% of heterosexual males confused, worried, self-doubting.

Good for him. I wonder how they're going to work this into the next season of Umbrella Academy?

Good for him, although someone should tell him that he doesn't have to wear a ball cap to be a man. Sometimes I don't.

I for one wholeheartedly welcome Elliot Page to the Brotherhood of Men. I've been a fan of his work for years, and I think it is particularly brave for someone whose portfolio began with romantic lead roles to come out as trans; there are still few doors open for trans people in Hollywood, triply so for lead roles; I hope this is a gamble that will work out for Elliot, because that could conceivably open some doors for other actors in similar situations.

Well this means I’m not going to find him cute any longer. ;)

Good for him. I like his work.

They are an actor. They can act as whatever gender the character is. Why does this need to be worked in at all?

That would be the best option. But realistically, is she going to want to play a female? If she doesn't, they can't fire or replace her because there would be backlash. On the plus side, the show is so bonkers that changing a character's gender is hardly the weirdest thing they've come up with.

EDITED TO ADD: Or "he" and "him". Gendered nouns are a bitch.

I mean, the whole theme of the thread is what HE is going by these days. The recipe for how to handle and discuss this is included in the OP.

I'm sure he'll do whatever he's contracted to do. Hopefully they will use his proper name in the credits, in Season 3.

In fact, Netflix has already updated his existing credit rolls, AFAIK

Oh, kudos to them! Though it helps that he's most of the star power for that show, I suspect! I've been trying to enjoy Umbrella Academy, not my genre or my aesthetic at all but it has its strong points and that includes most of the actors actually.

Come to think of it, the episode arc of Elliot's character being

involuntarily confined by her family "for her own good" (upon realizing that her powers are formidable but not controllable by them)

is going to take on additional symbolic meaning if I ever give those episodes a rewatch! He knows that feeling, as do all of us who have dared to violate a gender norm in supposedly supportive company.

I don't agree with this at all. He made a very fine girl from my point of view. I'm officially registering my objection.

The strongest piece of evidence, honestly, for their identity being valid is that I actually found (still find) Elliot Page to be rather attractive.

Because invariably when I find a "girl" to be attractive, like clockwork, I find out in short order they are a man.

(I joke, though. His identy is valid because it is his, not because I think he's a hottie.)

Oh, that happened to my marriage! We figured it all out in the wrong order, though.
