Not Christmastime yet, but for some reason this black "poet" decided to weigh in on the perennial issue of "what race was Jesus".
This Black Poet Explains Why Megyn Kelly’s Claim That Jesus Is White Is So, So Wrong
“How can she say Jesus was a white man
When he died the blackest way possible?
With his hands up
With his mother watching,
Crying at his feet
Her tears nothing more than gossip
For the news reporters or prophets to document
With his body left to sour in the sun
With his human stripped from his black”

Full racist and incoherent rant:

This is about as idiotic as Toni Morrison saying Bill Clinton was black because his father died and his family was poor for a while. What does him being crucified have to do with his race exactly? And how is crucifixion dying "the blackest way possible"? She offers a very strained explanation - he had his hands in the air (probably a reference to discredited "hands up don't shoot" meme regarding Michael Brown shooting) and his mother looking on. But MB's mother wasn't there when he was shot so I am not quite sure what point she is trying to make there. I am not even sure she has any coherent idea in mind.

There is only one appropriate response to this level of reasoning.

No wonder Ring of Fire types are impressed.

In reality, the historical Jesus, if there was one, would be of Jewish stock and thus classified as white. He certainly would not be black regardless of him being crucified and regardless of a few misunderstood verses from Revelation.

Like Arabs are.

I'm glad you are on this. God help us if somebody got this all wrong!

Yes, they are.

Not only wrong, but angry that anybody would contradict her. And Megyn Kelly got a lot of undeserved flak for being correct while this idiot is received hardly any backlash for not only being wrong, but also very much racist. But I guess that's black privilege - be as racist as you want and get away with it.

There is not one shred of evidence that this person "Jesus" ever lived.

There are a handful of claims.

Jesus was Invisible Pink, obviously.

I don't really care about Jesus-was-this-or-that claims... but I do agree with Derec that there is way too much allowance for racist bullshit from black people... not so much from white people - that is intolerable, apparently.. just the black people are given a pass... and they take that pass as far as they can get with it, it seems, in many cases... this one is a very good example.

I am agnostic on the question of historical Jesus. But that doesn't really matter. If this "poet" claimed Sherlock Holmes was black she'd be wrong even if he is a fictional character.

Bullshit.

Fictional characters can be any color.

Two black parents can have a child that would "pass" as white.

Bullshit.
Nope.
Fictional characters can be any color.
Fictional characters can have an ethnic/racial background just like real people. Sherlock Holmes was an Englishman which in his era certainly meant white. Jesus was Jewish, and there is nothing in the story to indicate his ethnic background was African.

Two black parents can have a child that would "pass" as white.
My understanding is that this happens if they are mixed, and "white" genes from both parents come up in the shuffle. In which case I would not say the kid passes for white, but that he/she is white. But I guess that goes against the racist "one drop rule".

I do not see what that has to do with Jesus, as nothing in the story indicates he has any African ancestry, much less subsaharan African ancestry.

It is impossible to say what any particular Jewish man looked like in that area at that time. It would be a range of possibilities.

Most probably very dark.

We are all mixed, just to a different degree.

well since derec is so incredibly upset about fictional characters not being presented correctly, i bet any minute now that he's going to be losing his shit over the fact that The Ancient One is a white woman in dr. strange, instead of an old asian man.

Don't let him know that Paul Bunyan is Black.

You seem confused. Derec wasn't the person in the video complaining that Jesus was being presented incorrectly as a white man... that black lady in the video was the one doing what you are accusing Derec of... Derec posted this as a criticism of that woman's racist bullshit... So, you are agreeing with Derec, and opposing the woman in the video (the one that "is so incredibly upset about fictional characters not being presented correctly [as a black man]).

I am more confused about why anyone on this board would care what this woman thinks.

I saw this at the top of the Daily KOS rec list yesterday with the caption "Black woman responds to Megyn Kelly's claim that Jesus is white—and it's stunning".

It was stunning, alright. Stunningly ignorant.

The woman's rant was not incoherent. The ideas flow quite naturally from understandable places. Also, this is more of an Easter themed Jesus poem than a Christmas one, so complaints about how it is the wrong season aren't quite as valid. Not that Christians ever need an excuse to talk about Jesus.

As for how racist it is, I figure it's just as racist as Megan Kelly's assertion that Jesus was white.
Nobody knows what color Jesus's skin was. Allegedly half of his DNA came from some supernatural Whoziwhatsitdoosit, so for all I know his skin was green with purple stripes. It sounds like the kind of thing all the editors and interpreters of the ancient bible documents would deliberately leave out.

Finally, it's a POEM. It's not a scientific article. Who cares? Was she even being literal? We don't know.

Why an atheist like Derec is so convinced Jesus was white is beyond me. (Unless he has some racial hangups that are overriding his ability to reason)

Really? Can you elaborate on what she was saying and how it makes sense to you?

- It is usually around Christmastime that things like identity of Jesus get talked about. Megyn Kelly's original statement happened around Christmastime two and a half years ago. Nothing like a timely response.
- Easter is over too, unless she is Orthodox which I doubt.

Kelly's was a mere statement of (likely) fact. The "poem" was filled with racial animosity: how dare white people say that Jesus was white, how dare white people call Brooklyn home. Etc.

Nobody knows what color Jesus's skin was. Allegedly half of his DNA came from some supernatural Whoziwhatsitdoosit, so for all I know his skin was green with purple stripes. If Jesus was real, he would have had human DNA. If he is fictional, nothing in the stories indicate he looked any different than people around him. So he was unlikely to be subsaharan African, aka black. He probably looked like other Jews of the region, which would be classified as white.

Finally, it's a POEM. It's not a scientific article. Who cares? Was she even being literal? We don't know.
She seemed very adamant that the very idea that Jesus is anything but black is some soft of sacrilege. So I think she literally believes it. In fact it is a common belief among black supremacists and racists, although it does not usually use quite as stupid arguments.
As to who cares, several "progressive" outlets have written about it and praise her "reasoning". So I thought it was prudent to expose its vacuousness.

Why an atheist like Derec is so convinced Jesus was white is beyond me. (Unless he has some racial hangups that are overriding his ability to reason)
Because the idea that he was black is ridiculous and really based on black supremacist ideology. It is those who claim he was black who have racial hangups, I am merely exposing them.

Pssst, Derec...

Jesus's mom was a white Jew but his father was god, a Black man.

So Jesus was Black, just like this guy:

I find it surprising that anyone on an atheist discussion forum cares what race Jesus might have been. But why don't I find it surprising that Derec is denying the possibility that Jesus might have been black.
