Should an opening on the Supreme Court happen during the Biden administration, what excuses do you think the Republicans will use to attempt to deny Biden from filling the seat?

If Biden’s election was fraudulent, do we need to wait until a proper election so the people get their say? Is it too close to the next election?

We need to kneecap the Republicans as much as possible considering all they care about is committing treason.

I think they'll demand the background investigation that Kavenaugh should have gotten, plus extra. Turning over every stone in their background, scrub the moss off, run the scrubbing water thru a filter
Then hold the nominee responsible for that one party they went to in a house that was (not at the time but previously) owned by a guy who was on record as saying socialists have had some good ideas.

"I call bullcrap on Biden's call for unity! How dare he nominate anyone until the Georgia vote is litigated! How dare he nominate a Harvard Law School graduate when we have so many worthy Liberty University alumni who have both National Right to Life endorsements and bloodlines that lead back to Jefferson Davis?"

They don't need an excuse, they'll use the power if they have it. And claim whatever excuse they want.

This assumes we even get to a hearing.

"Here's a picture of him with Bill Clinton. Clinton was like, Jefferey Epstein's best friend."

Game Over.

They'll say it is typically Democratic partisan polticking, and just sort of refuse. They don't really bother to pretend they are acting in good faith anymore.

Kav got an extreme amount of scrutiny for something that may or may not have happened when he was 17.

Turning over every stone in their background,
Like attacking him because he liked beer?

Or hold the nominee responsible for what happened at a party that may or may have happened in a house of unknown location and at an unknown time, but sometime over 30 years ago.

In reality, I predict Biden will have an easy time getting his nominees confirmed as long as the Dems keep the Senate.

And send them to the Gulag afterwards?

No. We have re-education camps set up in Maine, and I'll be sure to enroll you in my class, It Takes a Village, Stupid 101. I grade tough for a leftie, but there are all kinds of ways to earn extra credit. We will be reading The Prophet (Kahlil Gibberish), The Giving Tree (Shel Silverstein), and Between Hope and History (Bill Clinton.) You may do optional book reports (Te-Nihisi Coates, Joan Baez, James Carville, for example), but there are demerits for bringing in titles by Hannity, O'Reilly, or (triple demerits) Coulter. Fridays are Movie Nights, and I will be screening all of the Michael Moore docs. Seriously, Derec, what the hell do you have to lose?

Like, hasn't Derec been paying attention? It's not the left who worships prison and retribution.

I'm pretty sure any time the subject of prisons touches one of my posts I can't help.. but... Fuck, gotta...

Prisons are not an ethical concept nor is retributive justice. People will not get better on behalf of consequences, and personal myths such as "I won't get caught" leading from the imperfections of the system itself or the fact that crimes of passion happen outside the normal consequential calculus close the loop there. The only ethical way to handle unethical people is to treat them with love, compassion, and as light a hand as is necessary to prevent them from engaging in future bad behavior and enable them to contribute meaningful work to their peers, should they have the opportunity. Making someone else feel bad because they made others feel bad is just fucking sick.

Sorry about that. Bad case of diatribarrhea. Anyway, any time the whole prison thing comes up, I am pretty sure something similar to the above just spills out of me.

So it's not ME or anyone who agrees with the above saying to send the GOP to gulags. Honestly, as long as they don't seek leverage and power over others, I am happy with that result. Hopefully it just means taking a clue from Europe and working harder on education, legalizing drugs, and removing lead from our communities

Probably too much effort was spent on that , but it did reveal a couple of things about him that should have disqualified him from consideration. one is that he lied about underage drinking. The other is that he defended himself with unseemly decorum ( at the urging of the President it would seem based on the reaction to his somewhat even tempered response on TV prior to the hearing). I’m sure there were plenty of far right judges they could have picked from. Remember, it’s ok to say you have recalculated, right?
