I have noticed a trend of Derec calling black male suspects to crimes guilty, but non-Black men are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I know that others have mentioned this to him in other threads he posts about black males. I wonder what his excuse will be this time.

I have done the "innocent until proven guilty" for black suspects too in the past, when there was a reasonable doubt as to their guilt. And one or two counter- examples doesn't exactly disprove a charge of 'trend.' Especially if you're so picky about when to apply the concept.

When two of your hobby horses intersect, there are often exceptions. So, for example, if this was a women lie about sex assault hobby horse, you might make an exception to your black males are guilty hobby horse.

I think we are all guilty of assuming guilt or innocence of people accused of crimes based on our own interpretations of publicized facts and/or our own biases without waiting for the outcome of a trial to inform our decision... or even after the verdict. For instance, I was, am, and forever will be convinced that George Zimmerman and O.J. Simpson are both guilty of murder no matter what the juries decided.

Yes, some of us will base our opinions on facts as presented by the media, rather than the color of the accused's skin; but I wouldn't come down too hard on Derec's assumptions of guilt.

My primary objection to the way Derec has presented this is the misleading thread title: Suspect behind threats to Jewish sites arrested.

Either through ignorance or artifice, he made it seem as if this person is suspected of being responsible for all of the threats and attacks all over the country in spite of the fact that authorities were immediately calling it a "copy-cat" limited to the New York area.

And yes, he proceeds as if he already has every possible fact about the accused (even though he declines to share his sources for these claims)

Meantime, he fully admits to be playing a game of "gotcha"

But the key is, some of us will tend jump to such conclusions.
Some of us will tend to caution other posters that 'innocent until proven guilty' is the watchword in these sort of publicized cases.
And some will tend to remind others of 'IUPG' for certain cases: White defendant, female accuser, cop...
