Texas And Student Hair

The underlying message of my narrative, in relation to the original post, is that unwarranted regulations often give rise to more issues than they were designed to avert.

Y'all are giving me nightmares. This kind of crap is what rendered me incompatible with authority figures and organizations at an early age. I never got along with cops whatsoever until I had a little leverage with them.

Note: Meanwhile, no one is asking Zack to cut his 16inch length rock star hair off to use a drill.

Of course not. 16" should give him plenty of time to shut off the drill.

The main excuse I've received from those in authority positions for targeting long hair on black individuals is lice out of all the other excuses related to hygiene. T
Pardon my ignorance concerning fancy hair...
But wouldn't the chemicals needed to bleach black hair blonde be ideal for killing lice?
I dunno.

Maybe, but they don't kill the eggs. And to your other question I made up that name.

Frankly, I'd inform the school that I adhere to Rastafarian beliefs and my hair is a symbol of my profound connection to the most high Jah rastafari. I don't see why a none believer shouldn't have access to religious exemptions.

Ah.
You'd wrap yourself in religion and demand your religious freedom!!

How Floridian. Notice, I didn't bring up race.

Lets get this out of the way

"Regulations governing student hair is rooted in health concerns, specifically that dreadlocks are more susceptible to lice infestations!!"

Lice doesn't care about the type of hair. If the real concern is preventing lice infestations, a policy enforcing baldness for all students would be scientifically sported.
Is lice even really a high school issue?
Can be. We only went through it once when my kids were young. Thank heavens.

No locs. But lots of hair. Kids were old enough to read a large inserts so there was some discussion about how head lice was preferable to other types of body lice. Daughter did an impromptu musical number about live.

Fun times.

Hey, if it encourages the school to refocus on nurturing my academic progress, their primary responsibility, instead of fixating on my hair, then it's all for the best.

we must remember this, our schools are for education, not indoctrination. Schools should not push social agendas. They must focus on fundamentals.
Governor Abbott 2023 Texas Inaugural Address.

Making "other" students (the polite term) conform to white xian standards isn't indoctrination, though. That's just the way it is. (TM)
Let’s face it: If Jesus we’re walking the earth now, so called Christians would advocate for maximum charges against him and the death penalty.

If the government or any institution is prepared to allow religious exemptions for a certain regulation, it might make sense to reassess the necessity and validity of the rule in its entirety. Carving out rules and then announcing that little snot nosed Timmy is exempt because well "he's Timmy bro!" is unfair and inconsistent in my opinion. The school is basically saying "I don't want to offend this student over their unkept hair" and then turns to another student to say "that unkept hair is unacceptable!!"

The main excuse I've received from those in authority positions for targeting long hair on black individuals is lice out of all the other excuses related to hygiene. The other top one is safety, as if tying hair up when working with machinery isn't a thing.

My son actually is required to pull his hair back into a tight bun to work.

You're absolutely correct. Lice doesn't care, and dreadlocks are absolutely NOT more susceptible. Unfortunately, getting RID of lice is hard with locs. I had friends that had to cut them off due to lice.

Yes, actually, it does. And hairspray helps prevent it (as do other hair care products.). Lice prefer clean hair with no unnatural chemicals. (BTW, I owned a child care center and summer camp - became an expert in lice and lice eradication!!)

One of my sons ‘threatened’ me telling me he was going to grow his hair out past his shoulders. I laughed out loud and asked if he realized when I grew up. Another one did grow his hair all the way down his back. They’ve all grown beards like their dad—well, not my daughter. It’s just hair.

In some settings/occupations, hair must be restrained for safety reasons. I admit that it shocks me every time I see pro football players with hair hanging out under their helmets. Seems like it could be a safety issue.

If I was a football player I’d have a breakaway ponytail.
