The Battle between those who band together successfully, and those who do not.

The Battle of Britpop in 1995?

Is represented by what conflict?

Remember the war against Franco? That's the kind where each of us belongs. Though he may have won all the battles, We had all the good songs!

Yesterday, in conversation, someone said, "I remember the Monkees." I asked him, "How old are you?" He said he was 36. I said, "You don't remember the Monkees, you've just heard of them."

It was Benjamin Franklin who said, "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately." In any conflict, the side with the most people and resources will have an advantage if there is a unity of purpose. This means a central leadership which is recognized by all. They don't necessarily have to have more in common than that.

As Napoleon said, "An army without a general is just a bunch of guys wearing the same color shirt."

What exactly is the criteria for success? Everlasting survival?

Because every group becomes extinct after a while. None last very long.

What have you got?
Confusion over what you're trying to say.

It's understandable. This discussion is grounded on vague definitions.

In the Marlon Brando movie, "The Wild One," Marlon Brando is a member of a motorcycle club named the "Black Rebels." The cute chick asks, "Hey, Johnny, what are you rebelling against?" He answers, "What've you got?"

Great line.

The other guy.
So success is defined as the victory over the other guy before some other guy has a victory over you, as inevitably will happen?
Basically, yes.

It's kinda like the end of the Matrix movies. The Architect asks the Oracle "How long do you think this peace will last?" to which she flatly replies "As long as it can."

Maybe that's a tad fatalistic, but victory is context-specific and not always even permanent. You beat your opposition, you basically win whatever argument you were having. That may or may not put you in a slightly better position for the next argument, or the next arguer, or the next non-military social conflict that follows.

Democracy was invented to take the bloodshed out of those conflicts and transform what WOULD have been a military campaign into a purely political one. In the same sense, just because you won in the polls today doesn't mean you're going to win next time.

I agree with you and see success as just pure luck.

Nothing to get too excited about.

Survival is the only victory of consequence, for the individual and for the species.

All other pursuits are secondary.

Banding together is a useful strategy and deciding upon the size of this banding or grouping is the key to success. Too large, and the group becomes unwieldy. Too small and the benefits may not be sufficiently significant.

Life is the representation of this conflict, in answer to the question posed in the OP.
