The hush money indictment

And right on cue (after some lawyerly analysis), Legal Eagle is on the case!

Orange Face has make-up stains on his suit at arraignment

Looks kinda gross. Is it just me? A 76 year old child still using makeup? And then uses a stained suit to appear in court?

Back in 1999, I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Dick Clark. The longtime host of American Bandstand. The "Eternal Teenager." He was 70 at the time, and in real life he looked a lot older than he did on his annual New Year's Rocking Eve broadcast. We were his first media appearance of the day (well, actually he fit us into his schedule early) and as such he already had his makeup, hair, and clothes done for the day. He was on point, and his staff did a great job making him look good even though he was only going to be on the radio.

The thing is, I forgot all of that. Because Dick was so incredibly gracious and engaging you didn't even think about the fact that he was a 70 year old man trying to hold onto some semblance of his look from a decade or two prior. It wasn't weird or gross. And honestly, if you stripped away the light makeup he still looked amazing for 70.

Trump is a whole different animal. The orange makeup. The carefully coiffed comb-over. He's literally dripping with the effort to hold onto his youth.

I've never seen a man as vain as Trump. It literally astounds me that his sycophants think of him as the epitome of manly man. True manly men don't wear makeup and heel lifts. Manly men are comfortable in their own skin.

In the past I've described this as the difference between an ego, and an ego problem.

In some cases, an ego is justified. I've met some people who are genuinely the best at what they do. Olympic athletes. Astronauts. Rock stars. And you can kind of understand why they might have an ego.

But when you're not the best, but you think you are? That's an ego problem. Trump has that in spades. He sold himself as a peerless billionaire real estate magnate in New York. He's not even close. The real players in New York real estate laugh at him. He thinks he hosted the most successful reality show ever. He didn't. The Apprentice debuted to big ratings, but fell off every season after until the producers introduced the "Celebrity" aspect where D list celebrities were in the cast. Buried in the indictment is the final (or one of the final) insults. His White House doctor - the guy who said Trump could live to 200 - claimed Don was 6'3" and 235lbs. Turns out he shrunk 2 inches and gained 40lbs since then.

That sullen look that Trump sported at his arraignment was him slowly realizing that he's not all he's cracked up to be. His raging speech and Truth Social posts since confirms that he has a serious ego problem.

In the words of the iconic old movie mobster-gangster, "I'm just an honest businessman, this is all a mistake. The DA is making this all up. I am innocent. I did nothing wromg".

Trump is as corrupt as it gets. Going by rule of law, the only way they got Capone was tax evasion.

It oes not take a PHD in psychology to see Trump is metadata ill. Maybe he can claim dimished mental capacity.

I was impressed by the DA or persecutor who held the post arraignment press conference. Very stromg and competent.
Trump may indeed have some mental illness(es). I believe that narcism is classified as a mental illness, for starters.

Whatever his mental illnesses may be, they are dwarfed by his character flaws and thuggish, criminal actions.

The kicker in all of this is that if the supposed “billionaire” had just reached in his pocket and forked over $130,000 cash, none of this happens. None of it.
As far as I am concerned that's the key part.

Anyone have a link to full transcript of arraignment?

The one at ABC seems to have been wiped...

His White House doctor - the guy who said Trump could live to 200 - claimed Don was 6'3" and 235lbs. Turns out he shrunk 2 inches and gained 40lbs since then.
I was just going to mention this.

One of the first things discussed in the arraignment were threats and potential of violence/unrest.

From the transcript:
CONROY: ...

...

Next, I would like to briefly address this defendant's recent public statements threatening our city, our justice system, our courts, and our office.

Over the past several weeks and longer, this defendant has made a series of threatening and escalating communications on social media and on other public remarks. This includes irresponsible social media posts that target various individuals involved in this matter, and even their families.

His public statements have, among other things, threatened potential death and destruction, and that is a quote, and world war three, another quote, if these charges were brought and he was indicted.

They have directly addressed the grand jury and disparaged witnesses who have purportedly participated in our investigation.

Defendant has also directed a series of threatening public statements to the District Attorney's Office, including posting a picture that depicts Mr. Trump wielding a baseball bat at the head of the District Attorney.

These comments and posts have led to extensive public safety measures being put into place by a number of law enforcement agencies around the city, including here at the courthouse starting several weeks ago.

At this point, I'm going to hand the Court copies of several of the defendant's recent online posts as an example. Sorry, one moment.

...

BLANCHE: If that is the case, the President has not only free speech rights to talk about his view of what is happening by the District Attorney in this case, and also, it is important to step back, your Honor; to realize this case has been investigated for three and a half years.

...
...

JUDGE MERCHAN: Certainly, the Court would not impose a gag order at this time even if it were requested.

...

So, although I'm not going to issue a gag order and not something close to a gag order, I would encourage counsel on both sides, the People to please speak to your witnesses. Defense counsel, speak to your client and anybody else you need to, and remind them to please refrain, please refrain from making statements that are likely to incite violence or civil unrest.

Please refrain from making comments or engaging in conduct that has the potential to incite violence, create civil unrest, or jeopardize the safety or well-being of any individuals.

Also, please do not engage in words or conduct which jeopardizes the rule of law, particularly as it applies to these proceedings in this courtroom.

This is a request I'm making. I'm not making it an order. But now that I have made the request, if I were to be handed something like this again in the future, I have to take a closer look at it.

For context, I have gone to a conservative news source so one can see I am not being biased here. The NY Post has an article on the baseball bat thing.

They reference a truth social picture and post from TruthSocial made by Trump. These are below.

"Truely hates the USA"?

You want the truth?

You can't handle the truth!

You can't even spell truly!
In a rare Trump defense, I've Ben suffering grately trying to spell words using my Andrew de-vice. The spell-czecher is killing me.

people who say "well if black boy cooperated he wouldn't have got shot" with a total lack of self awareness.
Now you are comparing some person (gender and race are irrelevant) say not dropping a gun to this hush money nonsense? Really?

And with both comparisons, Trump is still being given preferential treatment. Fucking amazing.
His family is not going to get millions from the city. Families of "black boys" often do, even if police does nothing wrong.

Well, Trump is a rich white guy being prosecuted by an uppity black “liberal” DA .
Why are you leftists always so obsessed with race?
This would be no different had the DA been named Garcon, Boudin, Krasner or Schmidt.
At the same time, the Georgia case is much more solid, and the Fulton DA is a black woman.
Add in he got some nooky from a porn star and he becomes a hero to a certain sector of society.
It's deja vu all over again (Clinton with Monica in the Oral Office).

It's deja vu all over again (Clinton with Monica in the Oral Office).
Exactly. If the Republicans can be fine with what Clinton did and not make a big deal out of it and his fitness for office, why can't Democrats just drop the issue for Trump? Sheesh...

the court will somehow exonerate him of all wrong-doing.
Not exonerate as such, but I do think it is very possible a court may dismiss the felony charges in the hush money case.
He'd still face the other two, stronger cases from Georgia and the Feds. The thing is, the timeline is going to bump with the elections. These two haven't even gone to indictment yet, and even the NYC case has the next court date in December. At that rate, jury won't be seated until the Convention.
Funny how conservatives don't mind police executing poor people in the street if they're accused of being "thugs",
Who is ok with that? Nobody is ok with police executing people. The thing is, that happens so rarely, it's barely existent.
What happens more frequently is that police shoot people of whom police believe are a threat. Sometimes, in a small minority of cases, police make a mistake, like misidentifying a gun during a chase in the dark. That is tragic, but it is not an "execution". It also doesn't matter how much money a suspect has, so I do not know why you added "poor" there.

or detaining or stealing property from a homeless person on the presumption that loitering must be some sort of self-proving crime,
Property should not be stolen, but I do support clearing out illegal homeless encampments that ruin cities. Like in San Francisco where homeless people are shitting in the street.

but arrest a rich man for tax evasion?
This case is not about tax evasion.

Suddenly they're all legal scholars, and highly committed to the principle of innocent until proven guilty.
There is a difference in how police act toward a (perceived) threat and how that same suspect would be treated in court. "Innocent until proven guilty" is for the trial. Not for the streets. If a rich guy wanted for tax evasion responds to police by pulling a gun, the police should shoot him too.

Exactly. If the Republicans can be fine with what Clinton did and not make a big deal out of it and his fitness for office, why can't Democrats just drop the issue for Trump? Sheesh...
Two wrongs don't make a right.

Monica was during Presidency, Stormy was before presidency. No one voted for Clinton after Lewinsky came out.
