The U.S. military has warned service members about the potential for a mass shooter at screenings of the Warner Bros. film Joker, which has sparked wide concerns from, among others, the families of those killed during the 2012 mass shooting in Aurora, Colorado.

The U.S. Army confirmed on Tuesday that the warning was widely distributed after social media posts related to extremists classified as “incels,” were uncovered by intelligence officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
...
In the alert emailed to service members, Army officials claimed that incels “also idolize the Joker character, the violent clown from the Batman series, admiring his depiction as a man who must pretend to be happy, but eventually fights back against bullies.”
...
And James Holmes, the man who opened fire in a crowded movie theater in 2012 has become a bit of a hero to the incel community. It’s often been repeated that Holmes was inspired by the Joker, a claim that primarily rests on statements the killer reportedly made to police after the fact in which he said he “was the Joker.”

Clockwork Orange... but nothing has happened yet and hopefully nothing will happen.

"In a September 18th email, service members were instructed to remain aware of their surroundings and “identify two escape routes” when entering theaters. In the event of a shooting, they were instructed to “run, hide, fight.”"

Imagine being a member of the armed forces and reading this official armed forces warnings to all troops who may be planning to attend the new Joker movie. For many of these people, this may well be a WTF wake up moment.

We didn't get that here. Maybe it was just because there was a local threat. There wasn't (or hasn't yet been) a DoD wide warning, at least.

Is Joker a 'Dangerous' Movie? Joaquin Phoenix and Director Todd Phillips Respond to Critics

Warner Bros. issued a statement Tuesday responding to the ongoing debate surrounding the potential "danger" of its Joker movie, most recently highlighted in a letter sent to the studio by the families of the victims of the 2012 mass shooting at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado who are concerned that the film could incite similar violence. In the statement - which you can read in its entirety below - Warners acknowledges that art is designed to "provoke difficult conversations around complex issues," but insists that Joker is not intended to glorify the character. IGN spoke to actor Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips last week, who defended their film in response to the controversy. You can watch their responses in the video above or read their quotes in the original article below.

Have any of you seen the film? I saw it at Toronto Film Festival. It is very dark and very very well made. You leave the theatre feeling a bit disturbed. Its the kind of film that can haunt you, in a good way, but its definitely not appropriate for kids. Its very well made. He should be in Oscar contention for it.

The notion that a movie might drive an insane society into insanity is hilarious.

Why is it hilarious? Didn't that EXACT thing happen for that EXACT reason when the Joker was in the Dark Knight movie?

No, this society was already insane and insanely violent.

Actually, the movie in the Aurora shooting was The Dark Knight Rises. Bane, no Joker.

My brother, who posts on a lot of right winger blogs, and has been banned so many times he can't count the bans (in the hundreds), notes that what seems to be the favorite entertainment of dumb-ass, whiny alt-right snow flakes is anime. Especially anime with cute lil buxom anime girls with cat ears. Why that is is a mystery. If you really want to rile up an alt-right wienie, make fun of anime. Warning, you will be immediately banned. Alt-right otakus have very thins skins when it comes to their cat eared anime girls.

Simple: they want child-form animal-minded girls who they can rape, but with huge tits, because TITS.

Now we're turning against Anime of all things? Dragon Ball Z too? Is that alt-right? Is this because of Pepe the frog?

So has Gavin McInnes been released from his masturbation pledge now that he's distanced himself from the Proud boys?

I don't know. Is he your friend? He took a "masturbation pledge"? What's that all about?

Anyone see the Manassian police interview?

Holy crap, what a complete sperg. Such a strange guy, there was no visceral malice in his demeanor at all, totally in his head Forrest Gump murderer wackjob.

If Elliot Rodger would have lived, there would been lot of anger in his police interview.

It just doesn't match up.

I read about it but didn't see it. The whole thing is fascinating, how people can become so deranged. According to the Sun (local Toronto newspaper) he is autistic and was bullied brutally growing up, mocked later on by men and women alike, withrew from social contact from pretty much everyone in real life and then found a community online that helped him become what he became. Not too unlike what we hear about the western people who went off to join Isis. Does that match the interview video you saw? The Sun isn't the most reliable paper.
