The MLB 2016 Season Thread

I wonder how much of a factor the Jays long break between the two series' was. Four days off between games is a lot of time to lose muscle memory and momentum.

But then, Cleveland had a 3 day break and the Jays are streaky anyway.

By far, most teams down 3-0 lose the next game, so the Jays beat history there, but couldn't beat the bigger odds of coming all the way back. Cleveland's biorythms are peaking or something. Didn't watch those games, but have watched the other series. Cubs took the first one by playing better defense and base running, and Roberts left Blanton in a few batters too many when he'd been so quick with the hook before. Second game was Kershaw being regular season Kershaw. Last night, Hill improbably outpitched Arrieta for LA's first non-Kershaw win this postseason. I thought Roberts brought in Jansen way too early though, with 4-0 lead in the 8th, and then let him pitch up 6-0 in the 9th. Jansen better not falter later is all I'm sayin. If LA can win today, I like their chances with Kershaw pitching tomorrow. But if not, it will be wide open. Rookie Urias vs. veteran Lackey today. If Kershaw was able to pitch everyday, I'd feel better. This season is reminding me some of the 88 Dodgers where they also didn't have the best team on paper but beat two 100-win teams. That team depended on Hershiser like this team does Kershaw and neither had a lot of stars compared to the competition.

To bring this to politics because it's TFT, it was reported this week Adrian Gonzales refused to stay at a Trump hotel when they played in Chicago back in May. For the playoffs, the team stayed somewhere else but because of scheduling.

I don't have a lot of confidence in Hill but he did enough last night. I'm thought Jansen came in the 8th with two out already so faced an extra batter than usual ? So I'm ok with that call. Urias v Lackey will be interesting. Tonight's game should be a pretty good, I'm looking forward to it.

Well it didn't matter since they didn't need Jansen tonight. That was one long 7th inning. Ouch.

Another horrible performance. Hoprefully Kershaw will get the win on Saturday and a miracle happens on Sunday.

So was Kershaw off last night or did the Cubs just figure him out?

They figured him out. Kershaw does not do very well in playoff clinch games. But to be fair, the Dodger defense was iffy and the offense was non existent. Cubs were better over the piece. Dodgers out scored 26-6 over the last three games I think. Last night's game ended on a Puig induced double play. Says it all. No point prolonging the pain 😃

Indians v Cubs. One city will end a significant drought, assuming no asteroid smacks into Earth.

The Cubs going with the Chapman trade rather than giving up Schwarber to get Miller could be their downfall. That allowed Cleveland to get Miller and he has done far more for them this post season than Chapman has done for the Cubs. At the time, it seemed a wise long-term decision, but that was under the assumption that Miller was a 60 inning per season reliever. His near perfect 12 innings just this post season proves his value was much higher.

Here's hoping my Cubbies get early leads before Miller gets a chance to shut us down.

One thing is certain, no matter the outcome, Theo Epstein is a genius and knows how to pick the right manager to end baseball's longest droughts.

I love Joe Torre's comment to Theo that "I don't know what you do for a living, but you're damn good at it."

Some awesome pitching (with a little help from the umpire) on display last night. As a neutral, I enjoyed the game. Kluber was on fire. It is absolutely comical that Lester will not throw to first but having seen some of his efforts, well caution is best I suppose.

Cubs tie the series. It was another good game to watch. This series will be a classic.

Truly amazing how well Schwarber has done. Still don't think he should play defense in Chicago, given he wasn't a good defender when healthy, but even as pinch hitter in a key situation he could be big, or maybe a late inning sub if Cubs aren't already leading. He definitely shouldn't be in there instead of Zorbrist given his great offensive production.

No guarantees, but Cubs have big advantage now. Besides the next 3 games being in Chicago, they have their actual best pitcher (Hendricks) going tomorrow, then fully rested Lester again Sunday, and Hendricks back on full rest if needed in game 7.

Schwarber was impressive. Game three tonight, I think the Cubs will win tonight.

A close game with some intense situations. It could have gone either. Great series do a neutral.

Cubs got out of a few jams, were lucky it wasn't worse.

Agreed, great series. I find myself rooting for Cleveland, but somehow I'll be upset if the Cubs don't win it.

I kind of root for Cleveland but I'm just digging the baseball. Two great teams headed by cunning managers.

I haven't seen a game yet, but is Pete Rose still on the post game shows? I have to tune in for that.
