...in a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre offered schools his organization’s “free” support and guidance to protect themselves, saying that communities “must come together to implement the very best strategy to harden their schools.” President Donald Trump echoed the sentiment Thursday saying, “We have to harden our sites” to protect schools from gun violence. Before schools start lining up to take advantage of LaPierre’s generosity, it’s worth revisiting exactly what the NRA means when it calls for measures to “harden” a school. Here are a few recommendations from its 2013 task force report:

Prison-like fences

No trees or landscaping

If a school insists on landscaping, the NRA recommends very kid-friendly “thorn-bearing and sharp-leaved plant species to create natural physical barriers to deter aggressors.”

No parking lots

No windows

Entrapment areas

two sets of automatically locking doors, preferably constructed with “ballistic protective glass”

I have a better idea...

Get rid of the AR-15 type weapons of war and have strict protocols for everything else... requirements like Japan has would be fine with me.

“Our banks, our airports, our NBA games, our NFL games, our office buildings, our movie stars, our politicians, they’re all more protected than our children at school,” LaPierre said. “Does that make any sense to anybody?”

Hmmm... but things like airports, nba/nfl games, and politicians are usually protected by checkpoints with metal detectors, that won’t let guns through. Isn’t that making schools a gun free zone? Wait.... if we protect EVERYWHERE like that, then people couldn’t bring their guns anywhere, so what is the point of carrying them then?

And he is full of shit that airports or sports arenas are "protected" the way he "recommends" for schools.

Airports and sports arena have windows, parking lots, landscaping... They don't have "entrapment zones" or prison fences.

My old highschool has barbed wire fences all around, and metal detectors with guards at all the doors. This happened sometime in the early 2000s, long after I graduated.

Airports and the like have security and presumed security.

I worked on a job for a City at their water plant. They clearly went the 9/11 security to the extreme. Thought I was entering a prison! Can't wait to retrofit schools in the cities to have no windows. And say what... maybe a 2 foot perimeter fencing?

The solution is obvious. At birth, every citizen of the United States should be fitted with a neural implant which the authorities can use to administer a disabling electrical shock. In the event of a school shooting situation, the police can just knock everyone in the area unconscious and then move in and secure the shooter at their leisure.

Anyone who disagrees doesn't care about the lives of children and wants the terrorists to win.

If the amount of time I wasted staring out of the window is any indication, the elimination of windows in schools could easily allow a ten or twelve year education to be completed in three or four years at the most.

OTOH, if my teachers had been armed, I likely wouldn't have been alive to complete it.

That's IT! Kids like you!
There's no hope for their academic futures anyhow, so why not simply pay them to stare out the window, and if any threat appears, throw a spitwad or do a book-drop?

Or drip Methylene Blue on them from a pipette. That's what we used to do when people walked below the Biology lab windows; It's very difficult to wash off; Once it stains your skin, you pretty much have to wait for it to fade as new skin cells replace the stained ones.

Did I mention that I am fortunate that some of our teachers were not armed?
