The Virus - Are You Affected?

The insufferable prick Newsom acts like the petty tyrant he is;

Gov Gavin Newsom has informed a California county that it cannot reopen after two thousand people defied the state's stay-at-home order to attend a rodeo on Sunday. Pictures showed large groups congregating at the Cottonwood Rodeo in Shasta County. Many attendees sat close to one another without face coverings. Once Newsom learned of the rodeo, he announced Monday evening that the event directly led to a delayed reopening for the county. According to a statement from the Shasta County Public Health officials, the rodeo 'has delayed the county's ability to re-open retail businesses, restaurants and more during Stage 2'. Officials noted that the rodeo made national headlines and ultimately caught the attention of Newsom.

It's interesting that the large majorities of the populations surveyed approve of the Governors who took strong actions and who are following the data on when best to slowly reopen while Governors who were lax and are opening ahead of what the health experts recommend are getting low scores by their constituents.

Angels do exist. A local resident in my area (Bellevue, WA) has two CD printers that can manufacture plastic face masks according to a government design. Recently, he decided to run those printers nonstop and has been donating two masks to any household in surrounding neighborhoods who wants them. My wife and I ran out of paper masks, so we asked for a couple. He personally drove to our house to deliver them. Here is what they look like:

The black filter is made from fabric used in vacuum cleaner bags, and you can tell that these were designed by the government. They could be standard issue on a deathstar. I plan to wear it tomorrow when we go out for supplies, especially since it should help to scare away germ-laden covidiots and their offspring.

I think HEPA-filters can be dangerous to strap to your face. It's not what they are designed for. You can get godknowswhat silica particles into your lungs and that can cause havoc

That's true. The fabric used for the filter in this mask is made from material that they construct vacuum cleaner bags out of. However, it contains no silica. The mask designers are well-aware of the criticism, but they point out that not all such materials have silica in them. So you have to make sure of the material you use for the filter.

And Elon Musk, I will say as a resident of said county, is an increasingly despised and hated local figure. Literally no one sees him as some kind of hero for endangering his employees, breaking the law, and generally acting like a whiny toddler.

Oh ffs, the nitwits running LA County are proposing the lockdown stays until August !

Los Angeles County officials are recommending that the stay-at-home order be extended for the next three months as the region continues efforts to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. At a Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, county Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer said the order will "with all certainty" be extended unless there is a "dramatic change to the virus and tools at hand."

Leaving the bumbling mayor Garcetti doing damage control;

Eric Garcetti has almost never met a media opportunity he didn’t like, but today the Los Angeles Mayor had to jump into damage control mode over confusing comments the top Public Health official in the county made about stay-at-home restriction going deep into the summer. “I want to reassure people because I think there was a lot of panic suddenly the headlines said we’re all going to stay exactly as we are for three more months when that is not the case,” Garcetti told CNN’s Jake Tapper just now. “I think quite simply she’s saying that we’re not going to fully reopen Los Angeles and probably anywhere in America without any protections or any health orders in the next three months,” the Mayor told the anchor via phone, stressing he had spoken to L.A. County Public Health director Dr. Barbara Ferrer just before calling into the cable newser. “I think we know it’s going to be longer than three months,” his Honor added making the whole situation as clear as mud, again.

Between Newsom and Garcetti the state of California is doomed.

Some of you may not know that Eric Garcetti is the son of for Los Angeles DA Gil Garcetti, the guy in charge of the OJ Simpson case. OJ being the black guy that murdered his white ex wife and her white friend but was found not guilty.

...

Oh, ffs, they aren't the nitwits. It's those who don't care about the danger to public health who are the nitwits. The rules for ending lockdowns are very clear, as are the reasons why we are stuck in Groundhog Day with this epidemic:

1. Have enough testing available to test everyone who has some reason to need a test.
2. Isolate individuals and their households who test positive and carry out contact tracing.
3. Release people who have tested positive or are suspected of infection until they receive a negative result.

The problem is that we do not have enough tests to do step #1. Why? Because Donald Trump will not use his powers to force US business to manufacture them. Why? Nobody knows for sure, but it is probably because he knows that more widespread testing will drive numbers of infected and deaths much higher than they are now. He is desperate to get reelected, so he does not want increased testing to spoil his chances.

I don't think it has anything to do with competence. When people are scared and insecure they look to strong leadership. They want leaders who do stuff. Who take tough stances on things. The Swedish leadership got a lot of criticism from the people, but now in hindsight, seems to have made the right choice. We think the same of doctors. Few people are happy about a doctor who tells us that there's nothing to do but go home and rest. Even though that's most often the best thing to do. People prefer getting pills for stuff. Regardless if they need them.

It can’t be that. Newsom sounds like a fucking moron every time he opens his mouth. He has no idea what he is doing.

With 90 to 95% of people who contract Covid suffering next to no problems the danger to public health is minimal.

The rules for ending lockdowns are very clear,.

Rules ?! What rules ? Newsom just makes this shit up as he goes along.

Where did you get this number? I heard 50-75% number. and 25% is a huge number, considering indications that many who survived became permanently semi-disabled.

Clamping down very hard and being tough is typically the sign of weak leadership. Strong leaders are trusted even when they are more laid back.

That's something pretty damn cool about the Swedish prime minister. He's a working class welder, who climbed the old fashioned way. He's not eloquent. Did not get blessed with good, looks. He's not well educated. Everything about his background suggests that he should be insecure about reaching the top in society. Yet, he's the ballsiest political leader in the world right now. At least when it comes to Corona. His stance right from the start was to let scientists decide what we do, and just shut the fuck up. Yet, maintain the trust and support of the people. For somebody like him, that is incrediblly brave. Imagine Donald Trump admitting that he doesn't know what to do. It just wouldn't happen. Instead he flails around like a lion in a cage and pouts, makes shit up. Go go Sweden

It's no coincidence that the same people who project their idiocy upon others are the ones who dispute scientists' findings.

Ignorance truly is bliss - for the ignorant that is.

Went to pick up groceries today, a short walk on a beautiful day. There's a stand just inside the store that is selling hand sanitizer and disinfectant with a great big sign that says DO NOT DRINK.

Thank-you Mr. squirrel brain idiot POTUS. Trumps idiocy and ignorance knows no limits.

It should be labeled "MAGA Drinking Fountain".
At this point I don't really care how many trumpsucking morons off themselves by listening to the orange creep they elected.

Newsom is all over the place. The lockdown is actually quite half assed and the criteria for opening up more is so stupid it matches his intelligence.

Letting the scientists decide is the worst thing to do, just look at the state of the UK and what happened after listening to Neil Ferguson. Scientists and experts provide input to policy makers but they absolutely should not be allowed to make decisions but I doubt that is what actually happened. Sounds like the prime minister of Sweden is more pragmatic than some of the corrupt and power hungry bureaucrats that run California.
