Trump just fired James Comey

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that Comey publicly announced that the investigation was reopened. I believe that he informed Congress that there was new information available, as he had promised to do if the investigation reopened, and it was republican members of congress who actually broadcast it publicly. My take-away at the time was that it was the members of congress who behaved horribly unethically, not Comey.

I'll be glad to be corrected if I'm wrong. I don't have time to research it right now.

I remember that Comey was faced with the very real prospect that the New York FBI office would leak the fact that many more emails had been found. Support for Trump was high in the FBI and there had been many leaks of information detrimental to Clinton, especially from the New York FBI office. This was more than a little unusual, leaks are normally rare from the FBI's investigations. It is a breakdown in their professionalism.

Therefore Comey was faced with only two choices, and both of them were bad. Sit on the information and to suffer when the almost inevitable leak from the New York field office exposed it and exposed Comey's failure to inform Congress as he had promised, or to inform Congress, with the certain knowledge that it would be leaked by Congress in a heartbeat. He decided to inform Congress as he had promised and to avoid the blow back and damage to the FBI's reputation that would accompany a leak of this size from the normally taciturn FBI.

Same as I saw it. This was not a normal election cycle and expecting "business as usual" was unreasonable. Comey has now taken the fall, which in some regards is the best thing that could have happened for the country as it penetrated another layer of denial in Congress and the US population as to exactly what kind of person Trump actually is. I hope it was enough this time. Every time the Trump gets upset that he doesn't have dictatorial powers he does something that's even more outrageous than the last tantrum. I'm scared about what he'll do next.

Trump and Trump inc. certainly burned their bridges to banks in the US. They hadn't been able to get a loan from a bank for more than two decades because they had shafted banks so often.

He built and bought the Atlantic City Casinos with high interest junk bonds but he burned the bondholders and no one would touch Trump's bonds now. He burned those bridges. And yet Trump continued to build and to buy.

Where is he getting the money now for all of his building and buying?

I would be willing to guess that he is getting his current financing from one or more Russian oligarchs or from Russian banks controlled by Putin puppets. That this is what is at the bottom of all of this. And that the Russians are using this financing as leverage to move Trump. This is why he doesn't want to release his tax returns with all of the supporting addendums, schedules and work sheets, they would show interest payments to Russian banks.

Just speculation, if I am wrong expect me to deny any ownership or even knowledge of this idea.

So Comey got Kobed... (see Kobayashi Maru)

The "government is evil, we don't need no regulations and drug laws" crowd would never admit it but people like now ex-Director Comey are the strength and the backbone of the government. Comey isn't a partisan, he is a true believer in the FBI and its job. Above anything else, he was doing what was best for the FBI because long term, he believes that it is what is best for the country.

Comey is head and shoulders above Trump in integrity and in intelligence. He is certainly much closer to being right than Trump is. Or for that matter than the sum of all of the politicians, Democrats and Republicans.

There are people like Comey throughout government and the military. I have met many of them. The RWNJ's negative characterization of government bureaucrats is a regurgitation of carefully honed propaganda crafted for the benefit of corporations who don't want to reduce their profits to pay for externalities like pollution controls.

This really makes sense to me as well. And don't forget Exxon and it's license to drill in the Arctic around Russian. You know Trump and Trump, Inc is involved in that as well.

Tis too funny! I saw the thing about letting a Russian photographer in, but no American media, and was a tad baffled (but this is El Cheato we are talking about...so yeah whatever). But these buffoons thought Russia would play nice patty cake with them? Putin must be having another good laugh at FFvC.

Based on the quotes, I'd guess that the anonymous "angry White House official" that is quoted is Trump himself. He has no idea how stupid he makes himself look.

So how were they "tricked"?

They let the Russian photographer in, didn't they?

It was more complicated than they thought :D

Inspector Jacques Clouseau to the rescue...

So let me get this straight. Bill Clinton meets with Loretta Lynch on a plane and does not talk about the Hillary email case and everyone loses their minds. Trump says he asked Comey directly whether he was under investigation and it's no problem.

Three times.

I thought you said your dog didn't bite...

The Trump WH incompetence is shining brightly during this charade. I have lost confidence in this administration.

SH Sanders could have broken a law?
does any one know about this?

Good point. The republicans are allowed so many double standards. But it's because they have political power. We do not.
