Donald Trump picks Susie Wiles to be chief of staff

President-elect Donald Trump has tapped senior campaign adviser Susie Wiles as White House chief of staff, selecting one of his most trusted political confidants for the job.

Wiles, who amassed outsized influence as one of Trump’s two 2024 campaign managers, will be the first woman to ever hold the title of White House chief of staff. Many have credited the professionalization of the most recent Trump campaign to Wiles’ leadership.

“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,” Trump said in a statement. “Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again.”

No great surprise there, they were already calling her the chief of staff on the campaign trail. Also the "ice maiden", because Republicans don't understand female biology (she has two kids).

Not to give credit to my enemies, but it is an embarassment that we've never had a female WH chief of staff in the history of the nation, and it is nice to see another glass ceiling demolished, whenever it happens.

But it will end badly though, of course. She'll eventually do something to piss him off, get fired and branded a marxist traitor, and the whole right wing will cite the incident as proof that "DEI hires" should never be permitted...

Hey... guess who is for the CHIPS act of a sudden? Newly elected Ohio Sen. Moreno... you know... because the Intel plant in New Albany, Ohio is using that money. I'm always amazed at what spending is wasteful... and what is creating jobs.

Also, there aren't trillions to cut in the budget unless they attack Social Security and Medicare.

So what's your point? Looks like a "unified government" is coming.
Trump can say "cut trillions and give it to me", and that's what will happen. The only point of resistance is what requires 2/3 majority or 60%. And even that barrier can probably be overcome with proper shenanigans.
If there are shortfalls that hurt billionaires, make it up with tariffs.
No holds barred, no rules in effect and no enforcement even if there were rules. They're already singing the "This is going to hurt a little" song, to ensure that their next pocket-picking act goes disregarded.

Yay!
Women have proven to be as anti-American as anybody else. They've punched through the glass ceiling and it nice to see.

Women are as despicable as Trump. How nice to know.

It's not like that is news.

You've gotto take what you can get in this life. I despised Condoleeza Rice, but it was still a good thing for our country to have a female secretary of state again, and an inherent challenge to sexist values around the world. And I choose to see it as a positive that even the Trump administration still feels like it needs on some level hide his misogyny and racial chauvinism, however thinly. He knows the public isn't really in agreement with Vance/Yarvin/et al on gender and work.

Too expensive to do. Will be in the thousands maybe, but not millions.

  • Closing the southern border

depends on what you mean by “close”. They don’t want to stop economic trade with Mexico but they could shut down asylum seekers, refugees, and border runners.

  • and ending birthright citizenship

Would require a constitutional amendment.

Possible, but it would screw up the good economy they are about to inherit, which will immediately be called great as soon as it theirs.

  • Expansive tax cuts to benefit corporations,

Very likely!

  • tipped workers, seniors on Social Security, property owners in the Northeast and many others

Maybe.

Congress passes the budget not the President and Elon has so many conflicts he likely can’t do this from a true government position. Perhaps as an advisor.

If he can get confirmed, who knows how he’ll muck things up.

Probably, as well as make it much harder to do climate science, as he did in his first term.

Um…
  • And so much more
The unknown unknowns are the scariest.

So, she's a DEI hire, then?

Marco Rubio as secretary of state. There are worse options. I'm kind of ok with this pick given all the possibilities that Trump could've picked. Makes the NATO pullout less likely. Also doesn't strike me as a full fascist like Trump. Doubt he will last long, however.

  • Expansive tax cuts to benefit corporations, tipped workers, seniors on Social Security, property owners in the Northeast and many others
'tips' will be redefined to include massive bribes and kickbacks.
'property owners' will be focused mainly on golf courses, large buildings with a name that begins with "Tr", and 666 Fifth Ave.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet:

There is now nothing whatsoever to stop Trump from selling our national security secrets to the highest bidder. If you thought filling a bathroom at Mar-A-Lardo with classified documents was bad, then grab your ankles, because there's gonna be more behind-closed-doors meetings in the White House with Russian GRU agents, the Saudis are going to get more than just wnatever they got for giving Jared a billion dollars, and I wouldn't be surprised if the nuclear launch codes were handed to Musk because "nobody knows rockets like Elon."
