So in May Trump is going to have America rededicated to god. I want to go just to hold a sign that says: religion is bullshit, there is no god.

There should at least be a counter protest.

This is a gross violation of the first amendment.

All the years I've spent fighting complaint after complaint, threat after threat because teaching about world religions in my world religions class is supposedly a government endorsement of religion. And this guy just throws a prayer party on federal land?

Nothing new about Christian hypocrisy.
"You must not be like the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men...When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father, who is in secret..."
We have local holy types who set up folding chairs on our courthouse lawn for the national prayer day. I see them as I drive past, enjoying my secular day.

I'd been against this if W, a born again, pushed it forward. I'm merely bemused that one of the least moral people in the nation is pushing this and the people who claim to be righteous Christians feel as if he is some sort of religious icon.

Granted, this isn't about religion, spirituality, or faith, but against Christian Dominionism.

This Christian agrees with you 100%.

I have never been, and never will be, part of the public prayer shows which are faking faith for recognition. That would make me feel like a complete hypocrite. I have had acquaintances in the past who tried to pressure me into those things, and I bluntly told them that if they continued to try and make me part of their showcase I would denounce them as publicly as they proclaimed their "prayer warrior" status.

This is absolutely not what Christian doctrine teaches, as noted by @ideologyhunter

The icing on the cake is that this is being pushed by a man who is quite obviously not living a Christian lifestyle. I do try to refrain from judging other's faith, but I seriously have doubts about his.

I get the impulse, but a protest based on “religion is bullshit” plays straight into the culture-war trap they want. It turns a constitutional issue into a religious brawl. A smarter counter-protest would anchor everything in the First Amendment itself fuck the religion. For example: Separation of church and state, government neutrality toward religion, and the founders’ explicit rejection of state-endorsed faith. Quote the Constitution. Quote Jefferson’s “wall of separation.” Quote the Declaration’s opposition to church-crowned authority. Make it impossible to spin as anti-religion, because the argument isn’t against belief, it’s against state endorsing belief.

Under the new Christofascist regime you holding a sign would be seen as you disrupting them from worshipping the one true god which means you are acting illegally, discriminating against Christians and stopping their civil rights.

I suppose having doubts alleviates the burden of certainty.
I have zero doubts about Donald Trump's faith in any and all things not Donald Trump.
I don't like having zero doubts about the malevolent intent of the person elected to lead the nation into which I was born.
But I see no remedy that doesn't involve willful delusion.

I don't see how. ???
Same here. Its a National Day of Prayer. Technically, that could apply to any religion, not just Christianity. So, AFAIK. its not a government endorsement of a particular religion. If Muslims, etc were prohibited from participating, then it would be a different story. But, yeah, I'm sure he had Christianity in mind when he decided to set this up. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing thousands and thousands of Muslims showing up and throwing down their prayer rugs and chanting their prayers front and center at the event. That would be good "turd in the punch bowl" for all the self righteous Christians who think we are/should be a Christian nation.

Amen! Some loud and obnoxious Hare Krishnas, maybe some representatives of the venerated VooDoo religion and some Sikh dancers, plus the FSM contingent and a gaggle of Moonies should ALL show up and be as obnoxious as possible. Photo-op deluxe.

Interestingly enough, this is exactly the only or nearly only lesson from my early church days that I remember. I hated the Sunday school teachers and my parents allowed me to sit with them. The minister was really good, from what I remember. Of course, he was driven out shortly after Abd my father refused to attend church again. But the reason I remember this lesson is that my first grade teacher used to occasionally ‘lead’ us in prayer. Public school, totally not legal but..

I remember immediately thinking of the fact that she was going against the Bible’s teachings….

Oddly enough, I rarely hear the word "woke" in real life contexts, despite its ptevalence online.
I haven't either, but I have encountered very typical "anti-woke" crap.

Finally, we can agree on something.
