Trump VS COVID-19 Threat

Fox News was just talking about how when the Swine Flu came about under Obama's administration, Obama enacted NO TRAVEL BAN and the disease spread to 60 million Americans. Yet, the media wasn't making fun of Obama for not doing enough. Trump declared a state of emergency 3 weeks after the first outbreak
after first telling a lot of lies about the virus and how prepared we are.
Lied about his being knowledgeable on the subject YET unaware that the flu kills people.

After three years of becoming famous for lying to us about EVERYTHING, he just has no credibility. He cannot calm the nation by convincing people he is in charge, has a plan, and cares about Americans more than his fucking reputation... just like you, comparing Bonespurs' response to Obama's.
I'd rather discuss what he can and will do for anyone who cannot afford to take a sivk day so they'll go flip burgers or fold tacos.

Keith, when you say people will "flip burgers or fold tacos," that is because their boss will not allow them to take sick days. They can't afford to close the business down. A lot of McDonald's are open 24 hours a day, Keith. Do you expect the managers to tell everyone to stay home? Who's going to work all the shifts?

Sure people can't afford to take sick days, but also their bosses won't allow it. I can just see how thrilled the manager would be having to come in and work 10pm-8am or something. It won't happen.

Are you still doing this caricature?

Trump has done more than any other President has done in terms of a pandemic.

Too bad liberal media won't tell you this. Hannity just said these are facts over feelings.

Bonespurs was briefed on COVID 19 three months ago and did nothing until just a few weeks ago.

Reply to add: The swine flu originated in North America. A travel ban would not have done anything at all to stop the spread.

Too bad liberal media won't tell you this. Hannity just said these are facts over feelings.

Hannity did what's called lying by omission. If you had done your own verification you would have known he was bull-shitting you.

All viruses mutate. That's why we have to keep getting new flu shots every season and nobody can develop immunity to the family of corona viruses known as the "common cold".

We can't develop immunity to the "common cold" because it's really hundreds of closely related viruses, but not so closely related to get cross immunity.

Keith, when you say people will "flip burgers or fold tacos," that is because their boss will not allow them to take sick days.
yes. Exactly. These are the people i am asking for the president to do something about.
They can't afford to close the business down. A lot of McDonald's are open 24 hours a day, Keith. Do you expect the managers to tell everyone to stay home? Who's going to work all the shifts?
so, SICK people will have to choose between isolating themselves to prevent the spread, and losing their jobs, or going to work, which mesns thr border closing won't matter a fuck, we're gonna spread this on our own.
Sure people can't afford to take sick days, but also their bosses won't allow it. I can just see how thrilled the manager would be having to come in and work 10pm-8am or something. It won't happen.
so, the whole nation becomes a plague ship.
That was my question, thanx.

Holy crap! You think it's more important to keeps McDonald's open and have disease ridden people making food for public consumption than shutting down for a few weeks? Amazing.

Well, of course. The shitgibbon did say people with the virus can go to work, it'll blow over.

I watched AOC again, and I fact-checked where she claimed that Miami / Dade County will not cooperate with evictions during the coronavirus emergency. That is indeed correct: Evictions suspended in Miami-Dade during COVID-19 emergency | Miami Herald She thinks that it ought to be done more broadly, though it is a local and state issue. She also proposed suspending student-loan collection and also mortgage relief. Something like what Italy is doing.

Then what to do about detained and jailed people. Some people might think of AOC's proposals as going too easy on them, but they are good places for diseases like COVID-19 to spread.

Combining a moratorium on evictions with mortgage relief would be helpful for many landlords, so that they can survive lack of tenant rent payments much better.

She explains that stuff like avoiding large gatherings and social distancing are helpful, even if they don't absolutely stop the disease. They slow it down, and keep it from overloading hospitals and the like with sick people.

She will be going ahead with her tele town hall on Saturday.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls for swift government action to protect Americans from coronavirus pandemic | Fox News Video - AOC finally appeared on Fox News, and it was because COVID-19 is so horrible. Coronavirus chart: Canceled events and self-quarantines save lives by “flattening the curve” - Vox
According to infectious disease epidemiologist Marc Lipsitch at Harvard, it’s “plausible” that 20 to 60 percent of adults will be infected with Covid-19 disease. So far, 80 percent of cases globally have been mild, but if the case fatality rate is around 1 percent (which several experts say it may be), a scenario is possible of tens or hundreds of thousands of deaths in the US alone.

Yet the speed at which the outbreak plays out matters hugely for its consequences. What epidemiologists fear most is the health care system becoming overwhelmed by a sudden explosion of illness that requires more people to be hospitalized than it can handle. In that scenario, more people will die because there won’t be enough hospital beds or ventilators to keep them alive.

A disastrous inundation of hospitals can likely be averted with protective measures we’re now seeing more of — closing schools, canceling mass gatherings, working from home, self-quarantine, self-isolation, avoiding crowds — to keep the virus from spreading fast.
That is, flattening the curve.

Like already stated, this broke out in North America, and was in SW US before we knew it. Secondarily, the Swine Flu wasn't even close to being a more deadly one.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/2009-h1n1-pandemic.html
From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million), 274,304 hospitalizations (range: 195,086-402,719), and 12,469 deaths (range: 8868-18,306) in the United States due to the (H1N1)pdm09 virus.

From Sep 2018, talking about last winter (under FFvC, not that it was his fault):
https://www.statnews.com/2018/09/26/cdc-us-flu-deaths-winter/
An estimated 80,000 Americans died of flu and its complications last winter — the disease’s highest death toll in at least four decades.
<snip>
In recent years, flu-related deaths have ranged from about 12,000 to — in the worst year — 56,000, according to the CDC.

As states across the U.S. struggle to contain the novel coronavirus and treat those who have been infected, the Trump administration is blocking state governments from expanding Medicaid coverage to ensure that vulnerable populations are able to receive necessary healthcare in the face of the rapidly spreading pandemic.
The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that “despite mounting pleas from California and other states, the Trump administration isn’t allowing states to use Medicaid more freely to respond to the coronavirus crisis by expanding medical services.”

“It isn’t enough Trump and loyalists have catastrophically botched the response to this epidemic and lied about it. The admin is now blocking states from expanding medical services. Ghouls.”

Odd. Just the other day CA governor Gavin Newsom was very appreciative of what President Trump provided for CA.

But he sure is making sure to create a cash windfall for his and Rick Scott's companies. Fucker.

Trump declares a national emergency to combat coronavirus - CNNPolitics
President Donald Trump said Friday he was declaring a national emergency -- "two very big words" -- to free up $50 billion in federal resources to combat coronavirus even as he refused to take personal responsibility for administration failures early in the outbreak.

...
As he sought to project an air of competence, Trump denied there were missteps that some health experts say have aggravated the crisis.

"I don't take responsibility at all," he said, insisting problems that led to slow test-kit distribution were the fault of previous administrations. "We were given a set of circumstances and we were given rules, regulations and specifications from a different time."
He talked about being unified to fight the virus, though I suspect that his speechwriters deserve all the credit for that.
But Trump's own words at times belied a sense of political unity. He blamed Democrats for not bending enough in negotiations over a legislative package to combat coronavirus and he accused past administrations -- misleadingly -- of hampering his ability to confront the virus.

He also claimed to lack any knowledge that a pandemic control group within his own National Security Council was disbanded under his watch, calling a question on the topic "nasty."

"I don't know anything about it," he said. "When you say 'me,' I didn't do it."
Trump is a disgrace.

He has no sense of responsibility.

Opinion | Now Trump Really Needs to Talk About the 25th Amendment - POLITICO -- he is vulnerable to the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Trump himself never admits weakness. As a businessman and a leader, he resists looking too far ahead, and is known for simply dodging and weaving to keep bad news at bay—a quality that has already served him badly in handling the biggest crisis of his presidency. As for the people around him: He hand-picks his staff for personal loyalty over any particular principles, and replaces them when they fail to exhibit the blind allegiance he desires.

The 25th Amendment has been invoked only a few times, always voluntarily by presidents themselves when they’ve undergone surgery. If it’s hard to imagine Trump himself ceding power for any reason, it’s even harder to imagine the amendment’s powerful Section 4 being invoked, transferring power from the president without his consent. It requires consensus of the people close to him—specifically, “the vice president and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide.”
What a jerk. He deserves to have had the 25th Amendment used on him long ago.

Will Congress offer coronavirus paid sick leave tax credit? | Modesto Bee
Businesses that give their employees paid sick leave during the coronavirus may get tax credits for doing so under a package of bills in the House of Representatives to help people and businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The House is likely to vote on a bill Thursday to help people during the pandemic, which is expected to include paid sick leave, widespread free testing, food aid and more.

California freshman Rep. Josh Harder, D-Turlock, introduced a bill Thursday to make sure businesses who grant that sick leave are not fronting the entire cost. Instead, the bill would allow affected employers to claim a 90 percent tax credit of the qualified sick leave wages paid to employees who miss work because of the coronavirus.
