Trump VS COVID-19 Threat

article said:
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Monday night that he's "not living in fear" of the novel coronavirus pandemic and is "all in" on lifting social distancing guidelines recommended by public health experts in order to help the economy.

Patrick, who said he turns 70 next week, would be among the high-risk population that is most affected by the coronavirus. But he said people like him have to weigh the hazards to their personal health that the virus poses with the challenges to health of the American economy brought on by social distancing guidelines.

"No one reached out to me and said, 'As a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for your children and grandchildren?' And if that is the exchange, I'm all in," Patrick told Fox News.

Jebus Christ! The GOP is literally going to get 1 to 2% of the country killed by the virus and 5% of other stuff that couldn't be seen to.

I suppose on the other hand, it might not be as much a threat as there is no fucking Federal shutdown to begin with!

Yes, fucking idiot. Having said that, Chris Cuomo interviewed his brother and he was talking about scaling quarantine back too.

Trump feels he can ignore Dr. Fauci after hearing Jared Kushner’s ‘conspiracy theories’ about coronavirus: report – Raw Story
President Donald Trump’s relationship with Dr. Anthony Fauci has reportedly grown strained, and a new report from Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman claims that Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner has been driving a wedge between the president and his own director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Two sources close to the White House tell Sherman that Trump increasingly feels that “he can ignore Fauci’s opinion” because Kushner has been telling him about experimental coronavirus treatments he’s been hearing about from Silicon Valley entrepreneurs.

‘Going to get millions of people killed’: In all-caps tweet, Trump again undermines expert warnings on coronavirus – Raw Story
“We really need to come together as a nation. We really, really need everyone to stay at home.”
—Dr. Jerome Adams, U.S. Surgeon General

“WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF,” Trump tweeted, suggesting the economic impacts of preventative measures could be more harmful than the further spread of coronavirus. “AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!”

Trump proceeded to retweet a number of approving responses from his supporters, including one Twitter user who said the U.S. should “isolate the high risk groups and [let] the rest of us get back to work before it’s all over for everyone.”

Trump’s distrust of experts is why Jared Kushner is now overseeing the pandemic response: columnist – Raw Story
According to Bloomberg columnist Noah Feldman, Donald Trump’s deep distrust of experts will likely impede the government’s efforts to stem the rising tide of coronavirus victims as he chooses instead to hand off the critical response duties to son-in-law Jared Kushner who has also been tasked with corraling the opioid epidemic and solving the Middle East conflict that has simmered for decades.
Thus making him Prince Jared.

Manchin erupts into shouting match with McConnell: You’re ‘more concerned about the health of Wall Street’ – Raw Story
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) called out Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Monday for being more concerned with propping up the economy than providing supplies to hospitals fighting the novel coronavirus.

“You can throw all the money at Wall Street you want to,” Manchin said after McConnell blamed Democrats for a stalled stimulus bill. “People are afraid to leave their homes. They’re afraid of the health care. I’ve got workers who don’t have masks. I’ve got health care workers who don’t have gowns.”

“And it looks like we’re worried more about the economy than we are the health care and the wellbeing of the people of America,” the West Virginia senator complained.

McConnell interrupted: “The American people are waiting for us to act today! We don’t have time for this! We don’t have time for it!”

It's just sad that the media and Dems are LOVING that more and more people are being infected because it means they can blame Trump. .

The discerning reader will note that half-Life has posted something that is clearly and obviously not true. Whoever told half Lifeto say this lied to him. He is now passing along a lie.

he could try to prove me wrong, but he will not. He cannot cite a source that anyone is "LOVING" more infections. Without that, he reveals that he has passed along a lie.

The discerning reader will note that Half Life's post contains no truth.

It was a perfectly sensible question to ask a president, although not necessarily this particular president. The idea was that a normal president might have been briefed on information about how long we would need to keep everything shut down. A president would be expected to have better knowledge than the public and have some plan for going forward. Of course, it is kind of stupid to ask such questions of Donald Trump, who seldom listens to the experts that work for the government. Instead, he watches Fox News, like his clueless supporters.

Not even the health officials know how long this will last. The reporter was baiting Trump and you know it.

.

This definition of baiting that Half-Life considers acceptable will come in handy.

Was watching part of the Gov Cuomo conference. He also mentioned hydroxychloroquine (which is not chloroquine).

Was he trying to give Trump some ego strokes so the madman will cooperate in the crisis?

Specific names of unproven medicines should not be discussed in general public press conferences.

Ongoing or new studies could be referred to without saying things like "hydroxychloroquine", but some poor soul spent 14 hours of their time teaching President Shitgibbon how to say it, so ...

Here's what's going to happen if Trump ends the shutdown after 15 days.

The ones who are still scared to death of the virus will stay home and live in fear for a while. They have the right to do this. The rest of us will go about our daily lives again. If we get it, we get it. Such is life. I'd personally rather take a chance than live in fear. It would be like someone who is afraid to drive their car because they are terrified of getting into an accident. They can live in fear while others drive their cars whizzing right past their house.

Seems pretty simple to me.

You don't seem to understand much... This virus works the same way the common cold does. They're the same family of viruses even.

If we don't STOP this thing, it will become, and possibly co-mutate with those other coronaviruses.

By allowing this to continue spreading, we increase the chance of mutation, or even sharing with other coronaviruses. Yes. That can happen. Then there is no containing it, and it isn't just taking a chance, it's "taking a chance" every time it mutates and you catch a mutant strain. We each get hit with at least one cold every year. And it may take some time for it to become less lethal, even if it becomes re-entrant.

It also has impacts on the immune system in some cases. So every time you get a version of it, it might end up wiping out your immunity to other things, including past versions.

It's a really shitty chance you are taking with our environment.

But Trump never enacted a shutdown, just some mild guidelines. The stronger shutdowns are being done at the state and local levels.

By the time Trump re-opens the economy, the people who have it now will have recovered since it takes about 2 weeks to recover.New cases should diminish as a lot of people stayed inside for 2 weeks with minimal chance of exposure.

Nothing's been able to take down Trump yet. This is no different.

Obama probably would've shut the whole country down and just told poor people, "buy food for a few weeks" as if poor people could afford to do that.

Your problem (okay, one of your almost infinite number of problems) is your belief that people who follow the recommendations of the science/medical people and stay home, are doing it out of fear. Most of us are doing it because it's a fucking good idea. I don't wear a seatbelt out of fear; I do it because that, too, is a fucking good idea. So feel free to whiz right past my house, and swap spit with all of the other "fearless" idiots.

Trump isn't 'ending' anything. As everyone already pointed out, businesses were shut down by local and state governments.

That's a false dichotomy. One can heed public safety precautions and feel anywhere from perfectly happy to mildly annoyed about it. (although if you were one of those who stockpiled guns, masks, and TP I can see why you think it's the only alternative - but then all you need to do is stop doing that stuff and you could release your fear).

More like I'm going to drive drunk while texting because I don't want to 'live in fear'.

Seems pretty simple to me.
Seems like you have malignant Dunning-Kruger. You should stock up on toilet paper immediately.

It might be a good idea, but all you have to do is wash your hands before touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. If my eye itches, I pull my shirt collar up and rub my eye with the inside of my shirt. As long as you wash your hands often, you will be OK in large groups. I recommend washing every 2 hours.

I am not living with fear staying home. I am not living in fear knowing that my kids are not going to school in order to stay safe.

I would be more fearful if school went back prematurely, despite health experts recommendations, because I would know that the risk the my family would get sick and someone might possibly die just shot up exponentially.

Half-life's argument is upside down.
