Trump VS COVID-19 Threat

The COVID-19 Blame Game Is Going To Get Uglier | FiveThirtyEight - "And the party that handles the pandemic best will most likely gain."
Democrats have done the obvious so far: Pin all the blame on Trump by highlighting how he initially downplayed the virus and blasting his subsequent stumbles. They’ve also tried to position themselves as the party of good governance. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, for instance, announced the formation of a new select committee that will oversee how the Trump administration manages the $2 trillion economic stimulus package, with a focus on waste, fraud and abuse.

...
For Trump and Republicans, much of their 2020 strategy seems to be focused on putting the blame elsewhere — Democrats, the “mainstream media,” China and even some of America’s governors.

...
Trump has also pointed his finger at Democratic governors for failing to stockpile their own supplies. The political gambit appears to boil down to this: Trump thinks he could benefit electorally if he pushes governors — particularly Democratic governors — to say what a great job he’s doing.

“Dems in Array.” | Crooked Media - has a part on which sorts of attacks on Trump poll well -- the one that does best is to attack him on specifics of his failed response: availability of tests, ventilators, and funds for surviving the pandemic. Next was slashing the safety net: food stamps and the like. Least was the necessity of structural economic change: increase the minimum wage, limit CEO pay, put workers on corporate boards, etc.

The " ONE PEOPLE" mantra doesn't include the deplorables who didn't vote for Killery back in 2016, or those that support the Donald today in 2020!

What kind of moron supports the orange idiot today who didn't vote him in 2016?
You? (You're still not allowed to vote in the US elections AFAIK.)
Those who swallowed the Trump/Putin "Killery" story are less, not more likely to vote for him this time. Most of them can count the difference between 4 dead in BIN-GOZZY! and the tens (or hundreds by election day) of thousands Trump is responsible for killing in the last few months...

I might be underestimating

a) the power of the 2020 misinformation campaign, and/or
b) the stupidity of American voters.

The latter is very possible...

You must truly have a very low opinion of Americans as stupid morons and a with memory of a goldfish with a statement like that! It wasn't the Trump who unleashed COVID-19 on America or the rest of the world. It was the Chinese from the Wuhan area of China.
How does an allied to the left media talking head fare without a hand picked audience............................

It is interesting. We have two parallel arguments from the right-wing:

1) It isn't that bad and Trump did an awesome job
2) It is all of China's fault!!!

On its face, it doesn't seem very contradictory, but via the context they are made in, it is very much so. One side of the coin we hear that Trump did a great job, he reacted appropriately. Of course, the continually growing death toll is harder and harder to ignore.

So argument 2 comes out... CHINA!!!

Yes, China has a good chunk of blame to take here. They did fuck this up through what appears to be bureaucratic BS. That meant that the US was going to have to deal with this disease one way or the other. That isn't Trump's fault. What is his fault is his lack of significant mobilization for this "wartime" (as he puts it) effort, and the continually divisive bullshit he keeps proclaiming, stepping back from, proclaiming, stepping back from. As of yesterday, he was happy with the Governors of New York and Michigan. Today? Who knows. And his "LIBERATE" bullshit posts, and keep in mind that those weren't retweets... nor were they even stories he was citing. He simply posted three consecutive tweets propagating the far right-wing myth that the shutdowns are tyrannical. Which is seriously on the border of inciting violence.

One thing you can correctly and directly blame Trump for as an individual:

All of the cases and deaths that result from the protests that he fomented. That is 100% on him. He had three choices:
1. Discourage protests. (He did not do that.)
2. Stay Neutral on protests. (He did not do that)
3. Encourage, incite and inflame protests (roll tape of multiple occasions)

At this point, all good Trumpies should assemble for giant mosh pit encounters in front of their state capitol buildings. There they can mingle, wrangle, writhe & sway to their favorite Kid Rock or Toby Keith records, give the finger to the media and swap MAGA merch. Darwin rules, tho'.

Halfie, you are just talking to yourself, not to anyone here. You are just pleasuring yourself in front of everyone. Why do you have to do that in public?

Misplaced confidence? I wish I had the level of self esteem required to pull it off (pun most definitely intended).

Halfie is our president. Let that sink in.

It is hard to track that with the protest. One issue, however, is that we've seen elevated cases in red states like Oklahoma. Nebraska, Arkansas, as well. With a small population density, it isn't surprising if there is a delay in the exposure for the disease. Of course, with the right-wingers who demand freedom from tyranny, it is quite possible that these people are doing things that are putting them at risk.

And Trump is definitely fanning those flames.

Yes, many of them sound like you. And they elected Donald Trump. What more evidence is needed?

It does seem that Clownstick blame everyone, and take no responsibility is hurting him:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/19/politics/us-election-2020-week-ahead/index.html
. How Trump lost the public: In the early days of social distancing and stay-at-home orders, Trump experienced a polling surge the likes of which he has never seen before in his presidency.

People gave him high marks -- or at least a majority approved -- of his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, and that translated in overall job approval numbers that neared 50%.
Those days are now long gone. Trump's job approval numbers are back in the low- to mid-40s as a majority of the public now disapproves of how he has handled the coronavirus crisis.

The turn in Trump's standing appears to be the growing view that he moved too slow to address the virus -- and its impact on the American public.

Two thirds of people in the new NBC-Wall Street Journal poll -- released Sunday -- said that Trump did not take "the threat seriously at the beginning." That finding mirrors what a Pew poll found; 65% of respondents said that Trump was "too slow" to recognize the threat posed by coronavirus while 34% said he was "quick" to do so.

I think the polling pullback has less to do with Trump's massive lethal fuckups in handling the pandemic response, and more to do with him making a complete ass of himself for three hours a day in an attempt to suppress local news coverage. That's 'Murka.

More broadly, many of his supporters seem to like how discomfited his critics get - they like how trollish he is.

The absurdity and cruelty of our employer-based, private health insurance system should now be apparent to all. As tens of millions of Americans are losing their jobs and incomes as a result of the pandemic, many of them are also losing their health insurance. That is what happens when health care is seen as an employee benefit, not a guaranteed right. As we move forward beyond the pandemic, we need to pass legislation that finally guarantees health care to every man, woman and child — available to people employed or unemployed, at every age.

The Squad Has a Plan to Cancel Your Rent - VICE
Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar announced legislation Friday that would fully forgive rent and mortgage payments to ensure people aren’t evicted during the coronavirus crisis, and that vacant properties aren’t left to be scooped up by investors specializing in flipping homes after a crisis.

The "Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act," co-sponsored by Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pramila Jayapal, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, and others, also calls for the cancelation of any fines that build up during periods of unpaid rent, or other measures that might impact a tenant’s credit score and keep them from renting or owning a property in the future.

...
The legislation also calls for a landlord and lender relief fund, which would reimburse property owners for unpaid rent so long as they meet certain fair housing and lending practice standards for the next five years.
Good that it will also bail out landlords. Both tenants and landlords deserve being bailed out.

I always figured it was more about race. More than anything else Trump supporters are racists who believe in the myth of the U.S. and it being a historically 'white' nation. Trump's campaign gave credence to his desire to restore America's former 'greatness', or in other words his desire to stop helping people of colour.

Historically, it's times like these, when people have real economic problems, that their xenophobia flares up and they become susceptible to demagogues. It's a lot easier to believe that your country is broken, and that you can fix it by screwing over people who aren't like you, than admitting that you're incompetent, and that your life is going nowhere. These people don't want a leader who is going to fix their problems, they want a leader who is going to break all of the people that they blame for their problems.
