Trump VS COVID-19 Threat

Half-Life, where is your sense of humor?
I'm not picking up Half-Life's torch here, but I do find that term to be highly offensive and not at all funny. It really is a racial slur. Just because you might think it's "punching up" doesn't make it less of a racial slur.

Funny, because you accused me of not passive aggressively.
If you've expressed concerns about the long-term economic impact to people that I've missed, I apologize. The posts I've read didn't seem to consider that a big deal, and seemed to suggest that people who are concerned about their income are selfish jerks. Perhaps I've read you wrong?

That later stuff is stuff the Government can manage... if people in the US had elected a viable govenrment.
Woulda-shoulda-coulda? The government ISN'T managing it, and we DIDN'T elect a competent government. So given that the prerequisites needed in order to address the economic side of things doesn't exist... now what?

Trading jobs with unknown economic viability during a pandemic for a lot of lives is grossly unethical and simply shows what a failure the right-wing safety net philosophy is.
You phrase this as if it's a tea-and-cake or death kind of a choice. For you and me, and the people who can work from home without material consequence, it's absolultey easy to pick tea and cake. I feel like you're really down-playing the effect on lower income and hourly workers here, and kind of missing that they've got a choice between eighty-percent-possible-slow-painful-long-term-suffering and twenty-percent-possible-quick-death.

Look, I'm not looking for you to flip sides and start spouting "Free America" or any of that inane horseshit. All I'm looking for is some recognition that the lock-down is also resulting in suffering, and that it's also a real problem. At least acknowledge that it's not an easy choice.

Can't Mitch McConnell hit up his rich donors to help him out? I notice a remarkable shortage of assistance from the economic elite. With all its wealth, it could afford to do much more than what it has been doing.

'Heads we win, tails you lose': how America's rich have turned pandemic into profit | World news | The Guardian - "As 26 million Americans lose their jobs, the billionaire class has added $308bn to its wealth"
Never let a good crisis go to waste: as the coronavirus pandemic sweeps the world, America’s 1% have taken profitable advantage of the old saying.

Some of the richest people in the US have been at the front of the queue as the government has handed out trillions of dollars to prop up an economy it shuttered amid the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, the billionaire class has added $308bn to its wealth in four weeks - even as a record 26 million people lost their jobs.

According to a new report from the Institute for Policy Studies, a progressive thinktank, between 18 March and 22 April the wealth of America’s plutocrats grew 10.5%. After the last recession, it took over two years for total billionaire wealth to get back to the levels they enjoyed in 2007.

Trump tweets support for Michigan protesters, some of whom were armed - CNNPolitics - more Weimar Republic
In some cases, Trump's encouragement has contradicted the guidelines his own administration offered on reopening states, including a recommendation that the first phase only come after a 14-day "downward trajectory" of confirmed cases. In Michigan, the case count has been steadily declining, but there have been individual days where the number of new cases has increased, partly because the state has ramped up testing.

While he once proclaimed "absolute power" to reopen parts of the country, Trump later conceded that decisions about how and when to return to a more normal state would fall to individual governors, who enacted stay-at-home orders in the first place. But even on the sidelines, Trump has pressed state leaders to loosen their restrictions.
What amateurish "leadership". Is his memory going bad?

I'm a honky, and I find that term to be very funny. At least to me, it's much more silly than insulting.

AOC Will Vote for Biden, But Doesn’t Know If She’ll Endorse Him: ‘I Don’t Necessarily Know If He’s Going to Move Us Forward’ - VICE - she called much of the money a Republican corporate "slush fund".
Coronavirus presents an opportunity for the United States to actually catch up with the developed world, with the rest of the developed world in health care guarantees, in wages and jobs. But it is being squandered. When the stay at home orders were first issued, we saw a massive shift in the direction of progressive policy. You had Mitt Romney talking about a universal basic income. And then a couple of interesting things happened. It felt like once the racial data came out that showed that this was disproportionately impacting working class people and black and brown people, it was almost like within days a lot of those ambitions just fell. But when we didn't know who it was going to impact, when all of us felt vulnerable, we were ready to change. And I think that, at the very least, should be a moment of reflection for our country.
I think that a lot of right-wingers would be very happy with social democracy if the social democracy was restricted to just them. "Keep your government hands off my Medicare!" and all that.

She also notes that the Congressional leadership is very curiously slow to respond.
You know, I cannot tell if the slow walking is just because a lot of these elected officials have not felt this impact yet. But there is an enormous lack of urgency around congressional leadership. I would say, you know, you can tell a lot of these folks have not needed to scramble to pay rent in a long time. And, you know, I still measure time by rent checks. And I think that we should legislate that way, which is what I said on the floor of the House.
What is especially remarkable about this slowness is the great age of the Congressional leadership -- age is a risk factor for the COVID-19 virus.

Hate sites? You mean like the NYT?
The New York Times has not endorsed a Republican Party member for president since Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956; since 1960, it has endorsed the Democratic Party nominee in every presidential election (see New York Times presidential endorsements).
https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opini...ent-shows-why-newspapers-must-end-ncna1118796

Maybe the NYT are on to something?

Any news source on Earth that claims non partiality, or even handed fairness as the NYT does, it's simply not possible that not once in modern history there's never been one conservative they gave an even break to. Even Pravda hasn't got such a record.

This is a pathetic bullshit argument. Firstly the NYT have never claimed to be "fair and balanced". You're just dead wrong about that as usual. Secondly, it's pretty clear that you define impartial as "Anyone who agrees with me about Killery or Obango and speaks the "truth" about muzrats", so who gives a fuck what your standards are with regards to fairness. Just because an ideological centre is a myth doesn't mean bigoted prejudiced propaganda pages are equitable to traditional forms of media. And it's pretty obvious that you think Frontpagemag and OAN are of the same calibre as NYT or CNN. Two sub-par media outlets in my opinion, but are orders of magnitude superior than the crap you ingest.

Also, are you ever going to provide your source for asserting ,"The New York Times itself has admitted that around 87% of the mainstream media is pro Dem" or is it safe for me to dismiss that as crap as well? There are other ways to make your point other than plagiarism and hyperbolic fabrication you know. Happy to help out if you want.

Frontpage is a righwing pit, but it's not a controversial claim that most US journalists are Democrats or liberals. I don't know that the NYT has said anything special about it, but that question has been looked into from time to time. Of course, that doesn't mean their reporting must be biased, which is what angelo is implying.

I've heard to same, with the caveat that chief editors are generally conservative. But yeah, it's a typical lamentation from right wingers that reality is biased against them.

As opposed to Fox. I once sponsored Jarrah, an Australian aborigine, on a U.S. visit. At the airport, there was a TV lounge with Fox headline news playing. Jarrah looked at it for about thirty seconds, turned his head toward me and said, "E much heavy righ' wing."

China's response to Trump blaming them for well, everything covid-19 related. Not a joke - this is from Xinhua News.

Trump may be doing a fucking abysmal job handling this pandemic, but at least America is no longer the laughing stock of the world like it was under Obama amirite?
Too true vid...sadly I think we are going to see a ton more China bashing/lies by Clownstick as he seeks to deflect for Nov election.

Note: I am not implying that China is perfect or honest...

That is one insane propaganda video.

I will repeat again, the only person who did anything was Trump. Pelosi said we should have a parade in Chinatown on Feb 27, Fauci said healthy people can go party on cruise ships on Mar 9, CNN said the flu is more deadly, the NY Times said it was no big deal, all leftist sites and sources said it was no big deal. Biden said Trump's plan against the virus was racist.

But yes, blame Trump!! That's what responsible people do in a crisis, play the blame game!!

That is quite possibly one of the DUMBEST things I have ever read on this board.

Let's start with one thing: supply and demand. Conservatives believe in it. Leftists don't. Conservatives understand that the price of gas is down because demand is low right now. Leftists wonder why the price doesn't stay the same as it did before the crisis, which means they don't understand that profits influence payments. This is why not every business in America can afford to pay their employees $15 an hour, like economic genius Bernie believes. Remember when he was caught not paying his employees $15 an hour and he said, "Well, I can't afford to?" And we conservatives said, "Yes! That's exactly what we've been telling you all along about businesses!!!!!"

Economics is a right-wing thing. Leftists hate economics because it proves their side wrong. The free market always decides what things are worth.

If he's guilty, he's guilty, and no amount of whining about "blame gaming" can change that?

The Congresswomen demanded the government "get it together because it's working families that are suffering."

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi toured San Francisco's Chinatown Monday to send a message. She said there's no reason tourists or locals should be staying away from the area because of coronavirus concerns.

"That’s what we’re trying to do today is to say everything is fine here," Pelosi said. "Come because precautions have been taken. The city is on top of the situation."

Projection, indeed....from the Dems! Projecting their failures onto Trump. :picardfacepalm:

Just imagine of both of those quotes were said by TRUMP!

Pure projection.

What if AOC donated her enormous salary to help all these workers? That would make her a socialist instead of a capitalist!

I think that the Trump Admin dangerously misled many Americans about how serious the virus is.

South Korea's leaders acted VERY quickly, and the virus is just about controlled in their nation. Why couldn't the US have done what SK had done?

Seems like a new bit of right-wing political correctness has emerged: wearing surgical masks is what the liberal pansies do.

No, we saw it. It's the same bullshit argument you've put forwards time and time and time again. And debunked time and time and time again

IF Fauci and Pelosi received the same daily briefings on the coronavirus as Trump did (they didn't)
AND Fauci and Pelosi are both the President of the United States
THEN your argument might have some meirt
ELSE shut the fuck up about it.

Pelosi said we should have a parade in Chinatown on Feb 27,
Though I have generally decided to not engage in your general mishmash of BS, bait-n-switch games, and goal post shifting statements, I decide to correct this one bit of BS...as your posts just aren't worth the time.

https://www.factcheck.org/2020/04/trumps-false-claims-about-pelosi-and-chinatown/
At an April 13 coronavirus briefing, Trump falsely claimed that during her visit Pelosi said, “‘Let’s all have the big parade — Chinatown parade.'” Pelosi didn’t say that. In fact, that parade had taken place on Feb. 8, more than two weeks before Pelosi went to Chinatown.

It's not debunked. Simply saying, "Fauci lied and Pelosi didn't know" are cop-outs, not a debunking.

First you guys say, "Everyone knew how bad this would be except for Trump!" Now you are changing it to, "No one knew how bad this would be!"
