Trump Vs Iran

Either they are close to building a bomb (as Israel has claimed for 30 years) or they are not (as US intelligence believes).
if they’ve been “close” to building a bomb for thirty years (!) it would seem they aren’t trying that hard.
Maybe they ain't very good at it.
Perhaps they're trying to figure it out by watching YouTube videos. You know, the one's where there is some dude with a surprised look on his face in the foreground pointing his thumb over his shoulder at the nuclear explosion going off in the background.

It seems too early to say if the bombings were effective. I suspect that even U.S. intelligence is still analyzing the situation.
won’t the intelligence agencies just say whatever Trump wants them to say anyway?
It appears not, at least for now. The intel showed Iran was not close to building a bomb. Trump disregarded it.
Listen again. They were weaseling.

The thing is, building the bomb is the easy part. The hard part is the materials. It doesn't matter if they're building a bomb or not, what's important is if they have the weapons grade U-235. They have no civilian use for such, it's extremely expensive to produce, thus it's only for a bomb. Nor do you bury a civilian facility that deeply. It's unquestionably a bomb program.
Pay attention. If they are not close to building a bomb, then the stated rationale for the attacks of “they are close to building a bomb” is invalid, assuming everyone has the same notion of “close”.

Recalling that Israel has claimed Iran has bern close for 30 years, one might think they have to correct sometime. On the other hand, on this issue, given their track record, why take their word?
You're missing the point.

Building the bomb isn't an issue. They're enriching uranium, a gun type device isn't perfect but the odds of it working are well above 90%. It would take weeks at most. Thus whether they have started or not is a total red herring. The only thing that matters is how much uranium enriched to what level do they have.
If building a bomb isn’t an issue, then the enriched uranium is not a threat.

Either they are close to building a bomb (as Israel has claimed for 30 years) or they are not (as US intelligence believes).
Is this supposed to mean anything? What I'm saying is that you're focusing on the near triviality of turning the uranium into a device. The hard part is enriching the U-235 and that's not "building a bomb".

It doesn't matter if they're building a bomb or not
Except that they probably weren't, and now they probably are.

So that's another completely predictable win for the law of unintended consequences.
If they weren't making a bomb why did they spend a shit ton of money on an enrichment plant? And even admit to enriching beyond what's needed for almost all civilian use. If they weren't building a bomb they were doing a mighty inept job of it.

And all that would matter is that the enriched uranium was buried now under 1000 feet of earth. And I haven't heard a single person in the Trump Admin say we destroyed their access to the produced uranium.
My understanding is they moved all that uranium before the attack because Trump was pretty transparently going to approve the airstrikes.

None of this would probably have to have happened if Trump didn't tear up the JCPOA with Iran.

Let’s emphasize the point: There has never been a state of “war” between the U.S. and Iran, and the idea that the 1979 hostage-taking justifies bombing Iran now is just totally off-the-wall bonkers bullshit.

There was never even a war in 1979, because there was no declaration of war by Congress. Technically, all U.S. military (mis)adventures since the end of World War II were unconstitutional since none of them were declared by Congress, but in many cases they were given a small fig leaf of justification by congressional votes of “authorization” or, in the case of Korea, by dressing up our war there as a “UN police action.” But in 1979 in Iran, there was not even any of that. So don’t let anybody get away with the bullshit claim that we have been “at war” with Iran since 1979.
If there is no war, than we have committed state-sponsored terrorism on their soil many times over, indeed on a remarkable, fantastic scale.

Anything to kick the can. Iran wasn't complying with that agreement you keep pointing to. This is a situation with nothing but bad answers and you're giving the standard leftist answer of grasping at straws.

And I agree, they probably moved it--but it looks like we got the equipment.

They built the enrichment plant to be independent of third parties in fuel for nuclear plants.
They went 60% as a response to US/Israel killing their scientists and other shit.

It is sad.

Punting aside the land grab to create Israel, the Jews did a phenomenal job building a modern state with democratic processes. Agriculture, science, technology, manufacturing, education, medicine.

The problem was they were not magnanimous in their victory A bit arrogant.

If Iran and Saudi Arabia made peace with each other and both with Israel with all the oil wealth the region could be a showcase for the world.

I have always thought the Israeli religious conservatives and the Iranian Ayatollah need each other. Conflict to a point keeps each in power.

If you look at Netanyahu's history he never wanted peace and never wanted a Palestinian state.

Fo0r Iran peace means the theocracy looses an enemy to focus people on.

The only solution is an outside enforcement of peace with military force if necessary, that would be us.

We are still in Korea. Technically the Korean War has never ended.

This is not news.

It is worth noting that the JCPOA was not a unilateral effort by the "leftist" US President at the time. Was it perfect? No, but I think a lot of people on the right (and a few on the left) miss the point about the whole "Iran Nuclear Deal." It wasn't "and the day after the ink dries on the agreement, Iran will become a peaceful nation and the Ayatollahs will happily step down, leading to an open liberal society where everyone lives in peace."

It was a long-term plan to slowly...very slowly...change the course of the Iranian regime. Had Fragilego Mussolini not ripped it up and went back to acting "tough on Iran," we (the five members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) would currently be debating whether or not the initial 10 year agreement should be extended. Had Iran played along (opening up their economy and moderating their base instincts in exchange for sanctions relief) there would have been a chance that they'd get another decade. By 2035, an entire generation of Iranians would have grown up without crushing sanctions, and (perhaps more importantly) the majority of Iranians who were 30 and under in 2015 would be pushing 50 and starting to gain power in the country. Plus most of the Ayatollahs who participated in the "glorious revolution" would be dead. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have that Iran (run by people who participated in the "Green Movement") rather than the one we have now. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the Iranian people (who also tried to stand up to the regime after the brutal murder of Mahsa Amini) would agree.

Since Fuckface Von Clownstick tore up the JCPOA and started swinging his tiny mushroom dick around, the Iranian regime lurched hard away from any sense of moderation and started enriching uranium again, cracking down on dissent, and installing hard-right leaders in the "secular" end of government. There was a narrow and (admittedly) flawed window of opportunity opened in 2015, but a guy who goes with the advice of the last person who flatters him took a nine iron to that window.

Which leads us to today. "Oh, but Iran was mere weeks away from a nuclear weapon! Bibi said so!" Sure Jan. And Oceania has always been at war with East Asia.

Strange. The inspectors said they were complying.

And our own intel said they weren’t moving to a bomb, which of course threw President Orange Fuckface into a fury. Our own intel now says we did not “obliterate” anything, throwing Fuckface into another fury, but he will now pretend that we did and it’s all over. This must leave Nutbag Netanyahu furious himself, along with all the other warmongers including our keyboard warriors here. But at least Netanyahu will get to vent his wrath by slaughtering more Palestinian children.

US intel, Iran is a while from a bomb. Trump gets angry. DNI states a bomb is weeks away.

Preliminary US intel, attack didn't cause as much damage as hope. Trump gets angry. CIA states massive damage accomplished.

Earlier on Wednesday, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard also wrote on X that "new intelligence confirms what President Trump has stated numerous times: Iran's nuclear facilities have been destroyed."
Red flags anyone? The new intel confirms President's claims. Shouldn't the President's claims be based on the intel?

Israel/US thought that Iran was ready for a regime change but quickly realized that they were wrong and are backing off Iran now.

Did she wink? :)

Russia thought Ukraine was ready for regime change and have found after a huge loss of manpower and armaments that they were wrong. Love to see Russia getting kicked in the balls daily.
