Trump's Appointments

Trump nominates Casey Means for Surgeon General. Her focus is nutrition.
The previous nominee was pulled after Loony Loomer screeched that she was a) pro-Covid vaccine and b) pro-DEI in some sense.
Yes, the republic shall prosper under the calm stewardship of DJT. Either that, or it's seriously time to count the lifeboats.
Count? I see zero.
Trump & his ilk will come out of all this in splendid shape. Their lifeboats have stewards, fine dining, and whores.

Trump nominates Casey Means for Surgeon General. Her focus is nutrition. Can you believe that? Nutrition! She gonna make y'all eat your dadgum vegetables.

No good?
Can't tell. The fact she is aligned with RFK Jr isn't a good start. She has wandered into Functional Medicine, which in itself isn't necessarily bad. Treating the patient as a human and monitoring habit, diet, etc... to manage health isn't a bad thing. That is what DO's do.

Means asserts professional medical associations and agencies that receive industry funding “cannot be trusted” to establish standards of care. He says the nation needs “right reports” from federal agencies like the Food and Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, establishing how chronic disease should be dealt with.

It’s not clear what Means is describing. At times it sounds like he wants clinical guidelines written by people without any industry ties. But he also suggests diet and exercise should feature more prominently — and pharmaceuticals less so — in treatment recommendations for some conditions. And he calls for new, federally funded research to give the public solid answers on the health effects of ultra-processed foods and environmental toxins, among other things. “Before talking about banning glyphosate, let’s just demand a study of what glyphosate is doing,” he says as an example. However, there exist hundreds of studies of the herbicide, including ones linking it to human disease.

When pressed on exactly what kind of studies would be acceptable, Means said only that the NIH should pay for foundational research, “looking at the health of large populations” and the factors that affect it. “Isolating the exact ingredient or the exact variable is, I think, really problematic. And again, divorcing us from our common sense,” he told STAT.
She could be exactly what the US Medical System needs... or the exact opposite. She seems to have a good deal of money riding on her ideology.

Whether or not the Meanses are granted their wishlist, they stand to profit when people buy into “MAHA.” The siblings regularly mention their best-selling book and their companies.

Levels, the company Casey co-founded, is riding a wave of booming interest in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). The company has raised nearly $100 million in venture capital funding in three years. It reportedly has more than 20,000 members who pay $199 annually for basic functions, or another $199 per month for connection with a CGM. (Levels is not covered by insurance.) And the recent availability of over-the-counter CGMs could open the door to bio-monitoring for the masses, even as questions remain about who the devices are appropriate for beyond those with type 1 diabetes.

The drive for more personal biomedical information is a constant in the Meanses’ talks. Standard blood tests and an annual physical aren’t enough. They say Americans should know all they can about their biomarkers in order to spot potential diseases and avoid medication. They often mention Mark Hyman, a physician, author and media personality who sells extensive lab tests for $500 through his company, Function Health. Once people know what’s going on in their blood, they can address it with food and exercise, they say.
My doctor is a DO, not an MD. It is about the same thing, but a little more holistic. My doctor hasn't suggested any of the above bullshit.

I hope people aren't tired of all the YouTube links I post. This one is a MUST-WATCH. Jen Psaki exposes the breath-taking levels of ignorance, incompetence and hypocrisy which infect four of the top MAGAt officials.
It is worth watching. This administration is corrupt to its crypto heart. Of course the #1 offender with the "I don't know"s is the orange one himself, who told the ABC interviewer that he'd have to consult with his lawyers before he could state if he had to uphold the Constitution.

Trump surgeon general pick praised unproven psychedelic therapy, said mushrooms helped her find love
Fucking AP. Present it in the worst light possible now. Don't mention Johns Hopkins has been studying and helping people with this therapy for 24 years. No. That might lend some credibility to Means' comments on the subject.
To think I use to have a modicum of respect for this news agency.
I'm not going to be too upset about someone suggesting psychedelic therapy. The DEA has been so hostile to studying the possible beneficial use of anything that's currently schedule I that if there's much of any suggestion it works it likely does.

I just got a business card of someone offering psilocybin therapy. I thought shrooms were illegal.

It's obvious that most, if not all, of Trumps appointments have not been qualified.

Kristi Noem, head of Homeland Security, is clearly one of them. She wrongly defined habeas corpus as "Well, habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country and suspend their right to—”

She's so fucking stupid. Its not a power that the president has. It's a right to appeal to the courts that can only be suspended, by congress, not the president, in times of rebellion or invasion. It's in article 1 of the constitution which is the powers of congress.

Fascists all of them.

You remember how the righties freaked right out when Harris was going to start a healthy foods initiative?
And accused Michelle Obama of trying to turn the nation's youth into gristless soy boys because she planted one little vegetable garden at the White House? I remember tuning into the O'Reilly show once during that debacle, and even Bill was trying to talk his listeners down fron the sheer sacrifical insanity of refusing to feed their kids any vegetables to spite the Obamas, as the Tea Party crowd was threatening to do.

Oh my glimping grotesque gargantuan excuse for a euphemism! Just when I thought the stupidities of Trump's cabinet members exceeded any remnant of believability, I get a glimpse of Kristi Noem testifying before a Senate Committee. Kristi Noem, you will recall is NOT a 7th-grade civics student begging her teacher to change an F grade to a D if she gives him a blow job. Noem is the F**k*ng Secretary of Homeland Sabotage.
Senator Hassan asked this Trump appointee, charged with enforcing federal laws involving arrests and detentions, a softball question, the sort of question that would be laughed at back when America was a sane democracy. In saner days, the Secretary would have said "Your question is stupid Madam Senator because every employee of my Department knows the answer. Let me send in one of our janitors to answer."

The question was "What is habeas corpus?" Even I know the answer to that and I'm not even a janitor.
Let's hear how Trump's Secretary of Homeland Security answered the question:

"Well habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has, to be able to remove people from this country."

Since this may be literally the stupidest thing that any Cabinet official has EVER said, let me repeat it in a larger font:

"Well habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has, to be able to remove people from this country."

This astounded me so much that I accidentally pounded my head into the Emergency Power Off switch on my laptop! But after a reboot I finished the 3-minute YouTube. To help out the poor Secretary, another Senator tossed her some even easier questions so she could redeem herself. She failed, answering "I don't know" to every question. Poor Kristi Noem; she obviously hadn't even read the Constitution once since that 7th-grade civics teacher turned down her offer of a blow job.

Watch the whole three minutes. Noem apparently sees her role as preparing a Reality TV show, in which she will portray ... a waitress at Boebert's Shooters Grill?

So RFK Jr wants the Federal Government to vet all medical research. You know, after all the cuts.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Tuesday that he could bar government scientists from publishing in the world’s leading medical journals, instead proposing the creation of “in-house” publications by his agency — the latest in the Trump administration’s attacks on scientific institutions.

“We’re probably going to stop publishing in the Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA [published by the American Medical Association] and those other journals, because they’re all corrupt,” Kennedy said during an appearance on the “Ultimate Human” podcast. He also described the journals as being under the control of pharmaceutical companies...

On his plans for the agency to create its own journals, Kennedy said they are “going to become the preeminent journals, because if you get [National Institutes of Health] funding, it is anointing you as a good, legitimate scientist.”.
Well, living the First World was great while it lasted.

What he wants is to be able to censor study results to conform to his or Felon's crazy notions.

I'll be looking to Canada or UK or other english language countries for medical guidance from now on. CDC is no longer reliable.

Dude... you need to step back from the juicier accusations.

This lawsuit was about gaining access to files of government organization that Roberts oversees as Chief Justice, specifically regarding oversight of the Justices. Apologize for the Washington Times link. This is an odd story as right-wing sources picked it up and liberal non-news sources picked it up.

The RW Wash. Times sez
“It’s a move to try to rein in the courts” IOW, make them obey Trump.
The complaint alleges that the Judicial Conference made changes to reporting requirements for hospitality … Before the change, gifts and hospitality for the justices were not required to be made public, but after the change, they are now subject to reporting requirements.
IOW they want to keep bribing SCOTUS Justices without any restraint or oversight.
Corrupt as hell. The only “interesting” thing is how SCOTUS will rule to permit it, now that Trump openly endorses it. Will they invoke some larger principle of “freedom of speech (money) to persuade justices”, or just name some narrow exception to banning bribes that permits it in certain uncertain circumstances?
Yeah, that’ll be “interesting”.
🙄

Not only the medical fields but we and the world relies on high quality data across a wide range of fields from the US government and US institutions. Most countries just do not have the financial resources to do the depth of research the US does.
Research and data collection the Trump administration is curtailing or politically cleansing leaves all of us going blindly into the future.

I have wondered how long it will take for Trump and his gang to start editing the vital economic data that the government puts. Virtually everyone uses that to make decisions.
