Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

The US budget deficit cannot be addressed on the spending side without fucking up the country - almost none of that spending was or is unnecessary or wasteful in any way, and cutting it by any significant amount will crash (is crashing) the economy.
Rump and his MAGAots are trying to make Amerika great by cutting the stuff that makes it great.

All that's happened and absolutely nothing to do about it for another 3.5 years ish. The Dems can't gain the house and stop funding until there is only a year left in this administration. Best case they shut down what's leftover of government just before the next election. Might lose the election doing that so they probably won't.
What election?

The plane is stupid. I bet it takes 2 years to tear it down and sweep it's electronics for listening devices and transponders.

There is a reason for using AF1 instead of private planes.
Think they'll be allowed to do a proper sweep??

And AF1 has always started out as a production airliner.

But this one has been sitting around for many years because nobody wants it. The 747 simply burns too much fuel to be competitive.

If Trump can't or doesn't fix the deficit his whole administration will be an absolute failure no argument from me. Even the small amount of good done with border control is insignificant if our deficit can not be brought under control. This isn't good.
He never had any intention of fixing it. That was just to get you to vote for him.

Even the A380 is obsolete. Passengers want to fly point-to-point these days, so the profits are in larger numbers of smaller planes, except on a handful of very high traffic routes.

The big name Middle Eastern carriers (Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar) have a place for Jumbo widebodies, because their size allows them to offer luxury and exclusivity to the First and Business class passengers, while still offering cheap economy class flights for the rest; But they aren't a big enough market - Boeing and Airbus are all about long range twin engine jets now, because that's where the money is.

It's a shame for those of us who regularly fly ultra long-haul; That "luxury" is no small thing on a sixteen or twenty-four hour flight. But most people thing four or five hours is "long haul", and are happy to tolerate the discomfort of a smaller plane, in order to get a cheaper and more direct flight.

Even in cattle class, the A380 and 747 (or 777, which at least has a more modern, twin engine, fuel efficient design than the 747) are noticably better than the A340 or 787, if only due to the smoother ride. And Business Class on the smaller aircraft is not even close to the experience on the double deck behemoths. Emirates even have an honest to goodness bar on the upper deck of their A380s.

Regardless, neither Boeing nor Airbus are going to design and build a new superjumbo, just to serve a worldwide market of a few dozen airframes each - not even if a couple of those are being ordered by Uncle Sam, with a custom price-tag to match a custom fit-out.

Honestly at this point I'm wondering how long the GOP can keep this whole "we really care about the debt and the deficit" thing going on. It might be one of the world's longest running scams. Just in my voting lifetime (since 1983) it has been one of the central themes that they're the "party of fiscal responsibility."

Which is complete bullshit. The last time the government was taking in more than it was spending was under Bill Clinton. If you think the GOP is going to somehow be the party that balances the budget for the first time in 25 years, I've got a fresh box of Trump Steaks and a degree from Trump University I'd like to sell you.

It's all horseshit. I listened to a bit of Speaker Mike Johnson on Face the Nation. He was running the same old trickle down shit without actually saying trickle down via "enable the job creators". Next go around they will be, "unleashing my potential" or some such. That way if it doesn't work, it's my fault.

The way to Make America Great Again is to levy a 100% tax rate on every American and give all the money to Trump.
If he thinks enough of you, maybe he will let you have some, or not.
That makes it a 100% totally level playing field with every American* enjoying the exact same opportunity to suck Trump’s dick.
What could possibly be more fair?

*except Trump, who, in his righteousness, doesn’t have to suck his own dick.

I've just seen an online volvo ad with fine print I've never seen before. (maybe I wasn't paying attention)
It says:
"Optional features shown may not be available in the US market"
Are they too lazy to make an ad for just the US? - I can understand "may not be available in all markets"
Or are they covering their ass for not getting parts shipments due to tarrifs?

Not all that unusual. Usually it's "European model shown" or some such. Some options could be illegal in the US, such as fog lights on the rear of the cars.

The sheer pettiness of this oaf is astounding. Recall that the $6 fee for Donald Junior to join the Boy Scouts was a "donation to charity" paid by the tax-exempt Trump Foundation "charity".

Now that he's grifting hundreds of millions per whack one might expect him to be slightly less petty. Fat chance!

Pity the winners of the "What sucker will buy the most Trump meme coins" contest. They've already lost about $100,000 on average from their "investment" and the dinner was apparently worth ... less than that!

Trump used government funds illegally just to poke his nose in at the dinner ...
According to an Independent report, Trump flew to Virginia – the venue – on Marine One and at a lectern emblazoned with the presidential seal. This despite the White House arguing that it was a “private” event that Trump was “attending it in his personal time.”
... but he's a King now and can do what he wants.

Guests were treated to a plain meal that would have been a more suitable wedding hall dinner than a luxury black-tie event. The dishes were dull, portions were small, and beverages were minimal, just water or Trump-branded wine. For those who did not drink, water was the sole choice, and even that was hardly refilled. No cocktails, no variety, and no second helpings. The price of President Donald Trump's meme coin fell 16% as of Friday morning, just hours after he invited his top buyers, an elite group that paid a total of $148 million for the token to attend, to attend a black-tie gala at his golf club in Virginia. Crypto influencers, business leaders like Sandy Carter of Unstoppable Domains, and former NBA player Lamar Odom were among the 220 guests. Odom used the event to call Trump "the greatest president" and to advertise his own token, $ODOM. A guided tour and private reception were promised to the top 25 wallets. Others left disappointed and still hungry, like Nicholas Pinto, 25, whose father took him to the event in his Lamborghini.

Before answering any questions or posing for photos with the winners of his meme coin contest, Trump said, he gave a quick speech restating his previous cryptocurrency talking points and then departed in a helicopter.

Tiktok influencer Nicholas Pinto was particularly unimpressed with the dinner, and is quoted at several news sources:
Nicholas Pinto said:
"The food was awful." Trump's wine and water were the only beverages provided. I had water because I don't drink. There was only one filling of my glass. According to Pinto, Trump's appearance was brief. He claimed that he only spoke to the top 25 of the 220 guests. ... Pinto claimed that security was inadequate and that phones were not secured in RFID pouches. However, he stated that the atmosphere was more subdued than anticipated as many people no longer even held the coin. During dinner, they kept checking their phones to see if the price had changed. ... Attendees complained about the food, lax security, and Trump's brief appearance; some said the event felt more like a publicity stunt.

Pinto texted Fortune during the banquet. “Walmart steak, man.”

“Everyone at my table was saying the food was some of the worst food that they ever had,” said Pinto after the meal.

“It was the worst food I’ve ever had at a Trump golf course,” he said. “The only good thing was bread and butter.”

Trump did appear and gave a speech, but Pinto described the president’s address as “pretty much like bullshit.” And most guests had no access to the commander-in-chief, he said. Even Caitlin Sinclair, the host of the dinner and an anchor on the conservative news network OANN, wasn’t able to get much face time with Trump. “She said, ‘Oh, Trump didn’t even give me a picture,’” Pinto remembered.

One of the victims posted a photograph of what he was served.

Right? I'm resigned to the idea that we won't have another legitimate election. The Trump party made no secret about its intentions with respect to doing everything it could to stifle voting; and now that SCOTUS is their lapdog, that's pretty much it. They won't have to try nearly as hard to keep power as they did to get it.

Also, with Trump back in power, his minions will only be more emboldened. God, what an ongoing disgrace this all is.
