article said:The president’s directive signals part of the strategy Trump is likely to take to avoid a repeat of his first term, when Democrats flipped the House just two years into his presidency. It comes shortly before the GOP-controlled Texas Legislature is scheduled to begin a special session next week during which it will consider new congressional maps to further marginalize Democrats in the state.
Asked as he departed the White House for Pittsburgh about the possibility of adding GOP-friendly districts around the country, Trump responded, “Texas will be the biggest one. And that’ll be five.”
Trump had a call earlier Tuesday with members of Texas' Republican congressional delegation and told them the state Legislature would pursue five new winnable seats through redistricting, according to a person familiar the call who was not authorized to discuss it. The call was first reported by Punchbowl News.
How about the White House?I have no idea why the previous post got all fucked up and wouldn't let me delete the X, so I'm rewriting the post. Weird things have been happening lately.
Anyway, the point is that Trump forgot that he appointed Powell as chairman of the fed. It wouldn't take my link but it's all over the news.
White House Website 11/2/17 said:Today, President Donald J. Trump nominated Jerome H. Powell of Maryland to be Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System for a term of four years beginning February 3, 2018. As a member of the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors since May 2012, Mr. Powell has demonstrated steady leadership, sound judgment, and policy expertise. Mr. Powell will bring to the Federal Reserve a unique background of Government service and business experience. He previously served as Under Secretary at the Department of Treasury in the administration of President George H.W. Bush. Mr. Powell also has nearly three decades of business experience. He attended Princeton University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Politics in 1975. He continued his studies at Georgetown University, where he earned a Juris Doctor. While at Georgetown, Mr. Powell served as the editor-in-chief of the Georgetown Law Journal.
I’m genuinely uncertain that Trump knew that it was a lie. He has always been a bullshitter ( and so was Reagan) but I think the point at which he knew the difference between the bullshit and fact has long since passed. For Trump, the purpose of that story was to somehow make him seem bigger, better, more intelligent and more qualified. More special. So truth doesn’t actually matter to him. The only thing that matters to him is himself. That is unpleasant and dangerous in ordinary citizens. For an elected official: It’s terrifying.Seen elsewhere:
Yesterday, during an event held at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, President Donald Trump claimed his uncle John Trump knew and taught the Unabomber:
No, Thomas Kaczynski was not one of John Trump's students. John Trump taught at MIT. Kaczynski never attended MIT. Furthermore, Kaczynski's academic studies were narrowly focused on mathematics, so Kaczynski would never have had any reason to take a course from or even to meet Dr John Trump, who was a professor of electrical engineering and physics.Kaczynski was one of his students. Do you know who Kaczynski was? There's very little difference between a madman and a genius. But Kaczynski, I said, what kind of a student was he, Uncle John, Dr. John Trump? He said, what kind of a student? And then he said, seriously, good. He said he'd correct, he'd go around correcting everybody, but it didn't work out too well for him. Didn't work out too well, but it's interesting in life.
Furthermore, the fact that Kaczynski became the Unabomber was not known until after John Trump's death, so John Trump saying "it didn't work out too well for him" is Donald Trump's invention.
Donald Trump lies all the time, often for no discernible purpose, so the story Donald Trump made up about his uncle and the Unabomber might be nothing more than just another pointless lie. On the other hand, that story (and several other equally false stories Trump incorporated into his remarks) might be yet another sign of Trump's cognitive decline.
He talks a lot like Hulk Hogan. A guy that apparently can't remember anything from the past. Dude used to lie a lot, but now his grasp on reality and the past appears loose. It is hard to tell if he has lied about it so much that he can't actually tell the difference or whether he thinks these things are actually true.I’m genuinely uncertain that Trump knew that it was a lie. ... The weirdest part to me, is the Wall Street Journal taking the lead in this. Does this tell us anything?
They still can't believe what they're finding.I’m still waiting to hear about all the tremendous stuff Trump’s investigators are finding in Hawaii!
Only in the tRump White House would anyone think that this is appropriate. Puke!
