Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

Trump cancelled grants to low income Alabamans for utility support. Not only do they no longer get the money, they must pay the past money back.
Link?

Search on LIHEAP

(Well, at least the cuts. Dunno if they mention reimbursement of past grants...)

The grant that was ended by Trump just included 100 dollar payments to help pay for utilities. They deducted 100 dollars from the people's debit cards, and some of them don't have the money to pay it. I read that Huntsville is trying to raise money to help these folks. I tried to add a link but for some reason, it disappeared. Anyway, this is one small thing that the mean, heartless sociopath is trying to do to hurt poor Americans.

I'll have to find a link, but the tv news said this morning that the Reps in Congress want to give a 4 trillion tax break while cutting programs, including Medicaid and other programs that help low income Americans by 2 trillion.

House Republicans release budget plan, with trillions in tax and spending cuts

By Kaia Hubbard

Washington — House Republicans released a budget resolution on Wednesday, laying a foundation for advancing President Trump's agenda on border security, defense, energy and tax priorities, despite momentum around a competing proposal in the Senate.

The budget proposal says that the House Ways and Means Committee can pursue up to $4.5 trillion in tax cuts, and sets a goal of cutting mandatory spending by $2 trillion. It would also increase the debt ceiling by $4 trillion.

The long-awaited budget resolution comes as congressional leaders have been pursuing a massive legislative package under the budget reconciliation process that would enact Mr. Trump's agenda, including resources to bolster border security, extend some of the 2017 tax cuts, incentivize domestic manufacturing and invest in American energy, while working to trim government programs and address the debt limit.

Assholes!

DOGE is finding savings in the tens of billions. Or not....

article said:
The president’s numbers do not come anywhere close to matching figures posted on the DOGE account on X, Musk’s social media site. (DOGE stands for Department of Government Efficiency, though it is not a Cabinet-level agency.) We added up all the figures posted, taking most of them at face value, though virtually no documentation was presented. The numbers add up to about $6 billion a year, though $4 billion comes from a proposed cap on National Institutes of Health research overhead payments to universities, medical centers and other grant recipients. A judge has blocked that for now.

In other words, DOGE has claimed only about $2 billion in annual savings from specific line items — most of which appear to come from ending diversity or climate change programs. Whether that constitutes “waste, fraud and abuse” is a matter of opinion.

Here’s the full accounting of what DOGE has claimed so far. “MM” and “M” both refer to million; “B” refers to billion.
Jan. 21: Savings from elimination of the penny: $179 million a year. (DOGE noted a penny cost this much, but then Trump later ordered the U.S. Mint to stop making the penny, so we will credit this to DOGE. The Mint, in its annual report, said it lost $85.3 million in fiscal year 2024 from producing the penny.)

Jan. 22: “$784 MILLION in taxpayer dollars for a new U.S. Embassy in South Sudan, initiated in 2023. This is not a reasonable expenditure.” (No indication this has been canceled, so we will not count this.)
Jan. 27: $1.6 million in leases terminated (superseded by Feb. 2 tweet).
Jan. 28: “DOGE is saving the Federal Government approx. $1 billion/day, mostly from stopping the hiring of people into unnecessary positions, deletion of DEI and stopping improper payments to foreign organizations, all consistent with the President’s Executive Orders.” (No documentation provided, so we will not count this.)
Jan. 29: $45 million in “DEI scholarships” in Myanmar canceled. (This program allowed Burmese students from marginalized and underprivileged backgrounds to study at universities across Asia.)

Jan. 29: The account claims that $1 billion in diversity, equity and inclusion contracts were canceled. (A list was provided by agency, though with few details, but we will count this.)

Feb. 2: “In the past 6 days, the number of lease terminations of underutilized buildings has increased from 3 to 22, with savings increased from $1.6M to $44.6M.”
Feb. 3: “This morning, 20 consulting contracts, mostly focused on ‘strategic communication’ and ‘executive coaching,’ were terminated for immediate savings of $26mm.”
Feb. 3: “All in today, 36 contracts were terminated for a total savings of ~$165mm across 6 agencies, including a DHS contract for ‘people and culture survey and climate support services.’”

Feb. 4: “12 consulting contract terminations (in GSA and the Dept. of Education) for a total savings of ~$30mm, including a $23mm work order for ‘digital modernization Program Management Office support’. -12 underutilized lease cancellations for an annual savings of ~$3mm.”
Feb. 5: “The Social Security Administration has terminated its contract for the ‘Gender X initiative marker’ and removed all references to gender ideology from public facing applications. This saves > $1M.”

Feb. 5: $500,000 to Politico via NASA. (These were subscription payments.)
Feb. 6: $600,000 to the Associated Press.
Feb. 6: “Today, 78 contracts were terminated for convenience across DEI, Non-Performing, Media, and Consulting categories, including one for ‘groundwater exploration and assessment in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.’ Approximately $110mm of total savings.”

Feb. 7: “In the past 48 hours, HHS canceled 62 contract [sic] worth $182 million. These contracts were entirely for administrative expenses — none touched any health care programs. This included terminating a $168,000 contract for an Anthony Fauci exhibit at NIH Museum.”
Feb. 7: “Saved > $4B annually in excessive [National Institutes of Health] grant administrative costs.”
Feb. 7: “Today, the Department of Education terminated three DEI training grants totaling $15M.”

Feb. 7: “Great coordination across 35 agencies over the last two days to terminate 199 wasteful contracts saving ~$250mm, including: Contract for ‘Asia Pacific — Sri Lanka climate change mitigation adaption and resilience coordinator services for forest service.’”

Feb. 10: “Today, the Department of Agriculture terminated 18 contracts for a total of ~$9mm, including contracts for ‘Central American gender assessment consultant services’, ‘Brazil forest and gender consultant services’, and the ‘women in forest carbon initiative mentorship program.’”
Feb. 10: “Today, the Department of Education terminated 29 DEI training grants totaling $101mm.”
Feb. 10: “Also today, the Department Of Education terminated 89 contracts worth $881mm.”
Blow me down!

Let’s see.

Killing USAID: ok. Why should my tax money go to help people in countries when their own governments won’t help them? $60B in savings. Kaching!!

Killing Dept of Education: ok. Why should my tax money go to those low education states (like Louisiana and Alabama) when their own governments aren’t prioritizing education. $90B in savings. Kaching!!!

So now I think they should go after veteran affairs: why should my tax money go to people who volunteered to join the military when they are no longer in the military? If they need health care they should go get a job like the rest of us. $370B in savings! KACHING!!!!

Tesla looks like they may have a way to sell those awful looking Cybertrucks. Of course, the reference of Tesla has been removed from the document. As a full disclosure, Tesla was on the document back in December when Biden was President.
I wonder if Ford got a similar agreement since in most videos of Cybertrucks on rocks, sand, snow or water, there was a Ford truck there to pull it out.

WTF? All I get at that link is Trumpropaganda and a Land Rover ad.
Plus, it’s from Huntsville, the wealthiest part of AL.
It goes to Fox Channel 54. Here's a quote:

Hundreds are online voicing their concerns about Trump rescinding a federal grant that's impacted local Huntsville Utilities customers. It was called the Infrastructure Investment Jobs Act, and it was a supplemental grant from the Biden administration that gave out a hundred dollars to the 255 local people who applied to help them pay their bill.
But the grant program was frozen and the money taken back. Because of that almost 50 people have been unable to pay back the hundred-dollar debit placed on their account.
Delores Mastin, Community Action Partnership director, confirmed the loss of grant funding but reassured community members. "Next month's bill, that $100, they will be responsible for that $100. I have been assured by Huntsville Utilities, no one will be disconnected over this pause. Community Action is still here to assist in helping those to become self-sufficient. I say that, if we cannot provide the service, we will try to connect you with the local resource. So, we are still committed to doing what we're here to do."

So, for five grand they’re making 50 poor people miserable? The average annual household income in Huntsville, Alabama is $98,437. And they can’t come up with five grand between them?
I mean, it would be different if it was Montgomery (average salary in Montgomery is $65,217) or Selma, with a median income of $32,184.
But Huntsville? No excuse for five grand causing that much pain.

How many of those 255 do you think regret their 2024 POTUS vote?

I hate to say it but the only way to stop Trump is to give his voters exactly what they voted for.

A small price to pay for getting to use plastic straws.
Why not both?
Why is it too much to ask for a sane Democratic Party that does not overreach in order to appease its own crazies?

I'm guessing it's not the average household that needs the money to pay its utilities bill. Presumably there is a distribution of wealth, even in Huntsville, yes?

If we are moving toward a model in which the federal government no longer provides assistance to Americans, then I guess these people should look for support from their local government, or communities, or gofundme pages.

The heartless side of me says that if they voted for Trump, they got what they deserved. If you ask them why they voted for Trump, they would likely tell you that they don't want to become a socialist country.
