What Are You Eating Today?

We all were over where my daughter and wife are taking care of our two grandkids.

Grilled steak tips with a bit of teriyaki sauce, corn on the cob an some macaroni salad.

Yum.

One of my old favorites.

Mashed potatoes with milk or cream, garlic powder, pepper, peas. and green beans.

You can add some ham.

Easy to make and easy cleanup.

Leftovers good with eggs for breakfast.

We had crab cakes that we bought from Kroger's seafood section, with fresh steamed veggies and corn as sides. The crab cakes were devious, much better than the ones Mr. Sohy tried to make about 6 months ago.

Yesterday was baked salmon with rice and fresh veggies for dinner.

You can add some ham.

Substitute the ham for hamburger and it's Hills Glop.

Hills Glop is a dinner that my mom got from Mrs. Hill two houses over back in the 1960s/1970's.

Hills Glop was great. I don't know why mom quit making it.

I've been thinking of how my mom used to make stuffed quahogs. They were yummy.

We are still trying to find my mom's recipe book.

On the other hand, mom made some meals that I didn't like a whole lot but dad liked them. I think that they came out of the depression.

Baked canned tuna fish with peas on stone wheat thin cracks. I always picked the peas out.

And then there was the creamed chipped beef on rice. Not a favorite of mine either.

But I'd love to taste all of my mom's meals again.

I loved the pork cubes on rice with pasta sauce and green beans.

We called that shepherds pie. As a kid eaten with a lot of ketchup.

Baked as a casserole for a crisp top.

My mom didn't bake it that way but I love Shepards Pie. Sadly i am the only one in my family who does.

How about tuna casserole?

:D I just saw that autocorrect changed delicious to devious. That's what happens when I post in a hurry and don't bother to read what I posted, I guess.

Anyway, except when it came to baking cakes, my mom was also a terrible cook. Our favorite dish that she made when my sister and I were kids was a mix of canned beans, ground meat and ketchup. The thought of eating that now makes me nauseous, but one's taste does change as we get older. I hate casseroles, tuna, other than fresh tuna filets, Mac and cheese, most anything that has a mix of cheesy or milk products in it, yet these are the things I lived on as a kid. Has anyone found that their tastes when it come to foods they like has changed during adulthood or old age?

One thing that never changes is that I still love dry cereal for breakfast. This morning I combined Cheerios, Great Grains and Honey Bunches of Oats topped with fresh blueberries. I like mixing several high fiber tasty cereals then top them off with fresh fruit when available.

Sounds like my typical breakfast up to a couple of years ago. Now milk causes a reaction in me. I miss my cereal!

I went with oat milk for a while, for that very reason, but gave up on it after a while because … yuck!

I have stuffed peppers simmering on the stove.
Hope they are good. Peppers hate me and I. hate them, so whenever we eat out, we have to ask them to leave out the peppers if they are part of the dish. I could eat them when I was younger, but my GI tract says no way and luckily I no longer like the taste of them.

I am not a vegan. My 80-year-old brother is.
I have had some plant-based meats that pretty good.
Pea protein seems to work best.

Yellow, orange and red peppers. No green. The flavor of green peppers is too overwhelming for our tastes.

I can tolerate tiny bits of sweet red peppers and I agree with you regarding the green ones.
