I think this might be the closest to a perfect song as I've ever heard.

First off, Darius is a helluva singer. Let's get that out of the way right up front.
Second, the way the song builds is perfect. It starts with a simple guitar, his voice, and then bit by bit adds instruments (piano, guitar, mandolin) until the chorus. Then drums, dobro, fiddle, a harmony voice. Then strings in the next verse. Electric guitar. Legato strings. More harmony. Then the next chorus comes, and it's a full on audio assault. More strings, more voices, almost a goddamned orchestra. Then the dobro comes back and finishes the chorus...and it all goes back to simplicity at the end.
I can listen to this song over and over again and never get tired of it.

Darius Rucker is indeed a great singer and some of the Hootie songs are well catchy little pop tunes but "If I had Wings" just doesn't do it for me. The lyrics are mushy drivel. The music is technically good and Darius has a wonderful voice but can't cover the cracks over the mushy lyrics.
U2 Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own is a heartfelt expression of loss and grief put in a way that tugs at the heartstrings of any son who has lost their father. (exceptions exist of course).
The slow build up and Bono's lyrics draw you in as the crescendo builds at about the 2:50 mark. One of the best, if not the best U2 songs from a very impressive catalog going back 40 years.

Lately, I've liked just about every song that Odyn v Kanoe has produced. This is a fairly well-established Ukrainian singer, but she really has great talent. This one is called "I have no home". The video is a kind of fantasy fairy tale of a boy who runs away from home.
