What TV are you watching and how would you rate it? [Revive from FRDB]

Created by Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul), this one feels like a big miss. There's maybe 2 1/2 episodes worth of plot thinned out across 1 season. Slow doesn't even begin to describe the pacing.

The Boroughs
Think of it as the cast of Stranger Things 50 years later basically. It got cancelled but the first season is pretty self contained. Not bad for a binge.

The Boroughs was good enough to tolerate, but damn, the main character is so throughly unlikeable. He's an asshole that you'd hate to have as a neighbor. Also, the Spielberg influence is strong in this one. And why is the woman who cheated on her husband, who's such a great guy, treated as a sympathetic character?

Now that I think about it, the show is pretty damn bad.

Pluribus was great, IMO. The problem however is that like so many quality shows these days, it's unknown when the next season is going to be. I googled it and it's schedule for late 2027 or early 2028. That'll be nearly two years at the earliest. Why even make the series in the first place?

With three or so more episodes, this could've worked well as a limited series in the Midnight Mass manner; no dragging it out, no ridiculous wait time, etc.

Hi Colonel Sanders. This is a recording. I'm going to be really fucking repetitive and replay this scene ad nauseum for half the fucking season. Our feelings for you haven't changed but you must be annoyed as fuck about this dead horse beating when all you want is the fucking plot to progress.

If you've seen the show you'll understand the reference. But credit where it's due; the John Cena part made me laugh out loud.

Funny! BTW: I loved Pluribus. I like shows that are unique and Sci-fy. Agree with the Colonel about the Boroughs. I liked the show, but could have been so much better...
 
Watching the Sail 4th 250th parade of tall ships and military aircraft fly overs from NYC. Very interesting. Some gorgeous ships from all over the world. Huge sailing vessels with crews of well over 200.

The Washington festivities on the mall had to be shut down and evacuated due to dangerous weather.

Strange New Worlds - Season 4 started. Episode 1 was a bit much. Deus ex Machina is criminally abused by that program.

The thing is, they could have gone with premise and made it the season arc or even the last two seasons. They are stuck in time and have to figure out how to get back. Instead they get whipped forward in time the exact same number of years to an absurd level of precision due to a completely different process. The potential is quite interesting as they can explore, but need to be unseen.
 
Stuart Fails To Save The World

Stuart still runs his comic book store but in a world where an apocalypse has happened. Bert the geologist is still a regular customer but has to make his purchases with food. When a Stewart from another dimension visits and tells Stewart what he needs to do to save the world, it starts Stuart and Burt on a quest to save the world.

Some genuinely funny and whacked stuff happens. Stuart meets with Denice, his girlfriend from the old world who thought he was dead.

I'll say no more but I will watch the next episode hoping it will hold up.

I can’t think of another spinoff that went so completely in a different direction (ok, Mork & Mindy was technically a spinoff from a single episode, but even that didn’t go this far). Kind of makes you watch with a feeling of dread about how bad it could be, especially built around secondary and mostly annoying characters. But the ratings so far have been good.

LOL, no. Maybe in the future.

Raj did make an appearance, however.
 
Sugar on Apple TV 8/10
I stuck it out through season one mostly for the Corvette Sting Ray. I like the neo-noir filming with the old movie clips and Colin Farrell is perfectly cast in the lead role. He's so dreamy. The writing is very daring and could easily have gone/go off a cliff but so far, it's working for me.
It's a series I might watch over from the beginning looking for subtleties I might have missed. I'm noticing stuff in season two wondering if they did some of the same in season one.
The more I watch, the more I'm digging the story.
 
I've just been watching the episode of The Vicar of Dibley where Geraldine falls in love with Harry.

Watching the wedding episode as I write.

if the writers didn't get a knighthood there has been a miscarriage of justice.
