Yet another war, this time with Iran

Yesterday, Trump said he spoke to a former President. All four living POTUS's denied it.

Among the statesmanlike and dignified things he said in regards to the current farce in Iran:

“I’ve spoken to a certain president — who I like, actually. A past president, former president, he said: ‘I wish I did it. I wish I did.’ But they didn’t do it. I’m doing it. Yeah?” Trump said at a lunch for Kennedy Center board members.

Later in the day, Trump repeated the claim in the Oval Office, saying: “I spoke to one of the former presidents who I actually like.”

“I actually speak to some,” Trump said. “And he said, ‘I wish I did what you did.’”

God damn. I hate to admit it, but his bullshit still gets to me sometimes despite my commitment to not let it.

Some good news:
Ali Larijani, Iran's top security official, killed in airstrike, Israel says. Here's why his death is significant.

Larijani, probably Iran's de-facto leader, has admonished fellow Muslim countries for not helping:
Larijani rebukes UAE, other Islamic states for not backing Iran during war
Attacking your neighbors with missiles and drones is not a great way to win friends and influence people. More like lose friends and alienate people.
He also issued threats:
Top Iranian security official threatens President Trump: 'Be careful not to get eliminated yourself'

Another big get is Gholamreza Soleimani (no relation), head of a IRGC militia responsible for brutal crackdowns against anti-regime protests.

Hard-liner connected to extremists that Trump named Director of the National Counterterrorism Center resigns because he "cannot in good conscience" back the Trump Admin and their allegations regarding the threat from Iran.

Even the hand picked zealots the Trump Admin installed in the Executive are raising objections to the claims being made by Trump.

Maybe Kent is of the MTG and Tucker Carlson segment of the right wing. You know, the Israel haters.

Maybe he was talking to his gilded portrait of Andrew Jackson.

it's also funny if you know Islamic history. Islam has a universialist and egalitarian creed.

You really think that?!
You really think it doesn't?

There's no pope in Islam; According to the Quran, each Muslim must learn, read, and interpret the word of Allah for himself. An Imam is anyone who has done more learning and reading than most, and so takes on the chore of helping the less learned.

Of course, the reality on the ground is quite capable of authoritarianism; It turns out that having a founding document that espouses egalitarian principles actually does very little to defend against tyrants, particularly if those tyrants have fanatical religionists backing them.

As any present day American who is paying the slightest attention should now have realised.

Reporter (with a concerned look on their face): This president you speak to, is he in the room with us right now?

I hate to admit it, I agree with Swizzle.

Are you serious? Without invoking history the Mid East Arabs do not get along. Persian Muslims o not ike Arab Muslims. In Saudi Arabia I think there is sill a death penalty for apostasy.

Apostasy (leaving Islam) is a criminal offense in Saudi Arabia, regarded as a deviation from Sunni Islam, and is punishable by the death penalty . While capital punishment is legally permitted, court-ordered executions for apostasy are rare, with courts sometimes imposing prison sentences instead, according to reports from Human Rights Watch and U.S. Department of State.

Years back I looked at the online papers of state for Muslim majority states. Typically there is freedom of religion and speech, as long as it does not conflict with the Quran.

Egalitarian within the bounds of the Quran. Not much different than Christians. Jesus says love everyone, except those dastardly gay people. And atheists.

There's a steep divide between affairs of state and affairs of the heart. No imam has the degree of control over his community's personal lives as does, say, a conservative Christian pastor. But that does not prevent a king from arising over the governance of a state, nor is it meant to. The Qu'ran is fairly clear in endorsing the establishment a state government, under a fair and just ruler. I would not call that egalitarianism, though the prayer hall itself should have no class or clan distinctions.

That'd be my first guess. The actual anti-Semites.

Good to see Europe is holding fast against Trump.

He ha no one he can blame. The Trump admin propaganda is in full swing. Media is not reporting the real story. I remember the VN War propaganda.

Trump publicly insulted Europe and its milt6ray. We will no longer 'bail out' Europe. Her said Ukraine was not our problem.

Now he appear genuinely puzzled that nobody returns his phone calls to Europe.

The Iranian opposition is making a fatal mistake if they act thinking Trump will come to theirr aid.
Not only does Trump constantly mock our allies; but he also keeps punishing them with tariffs! What the hell does he expect?
Maybe for the first time Trump is isolated and exposed with no exit or excuses. He can't con his way out.

And a lot of people are suffering for it.

Maybe it is the Peter Principle. He rose above hos level of competence and he is stuck there with no way out.

I suspect that with his connections to various neo-Nazi groups his big issue was that Trump doing this for Israel.

Totally this.
Trump can't admit defeat because of his narcissistic personality, and the fact that if he had to answer to the law he'd be in more trouble than Jeffrey Epstein.

He was talking to Trump 45. He hates all of the 4 living ex-Presidents and only listens to himself.

We may be bonding Iran during the next election.

Like Putin Trump made a disastrous blunder. Putin thought the invasion of Ukraine would be a cake walk. Yeas of bombing and Ukraine has not been broken.
