Another Fucking Mass Shooting At US School

Congress member Tony Gonzales (R, Texas) believes school mass shootings are the will of God. He quotes Matthew 19:14 to support his opinion:

The kids can wait!

One article I read implied he was bullied and sounds like he became broken.
Tony Gonzalez, please rather reference Matthew 12:19.

... This shooting had absolutely nothing to do with bullying and everything to do with the fact that a disturbed young man could walk into a gun store and buy two assault rifles without needing any licensing, registration, gun safety training, insurance, waiting period, or interview with local police.
This is a false dichotomy. Both statements can be true at the same time. While we certainly know that an 18 year old shouldn't be allowed to buy weapons like that, that is one part of the problem. It is also probably the easier part of the problem to address... if a significant minority of the nation wasn't neurotic over gun laws, making it impossible to address access to weapons.

I wasn't denying that bullying had anything to do with this particular shooter's mental problem, so I'll concede that it was a factor, but not that I was making a false dichotomy. Every country has mentally disturbed people who will commit violent acts, but it is only in the US that we have scores of school shootings. The motives are not all the same, but guns are the common factor in all shootings. That is the problem that we need to address, if we want to do anything about these mass murders. not mental health. The only reason we ever discuss fixing the problem with motives is that we want to ignore the problem with means, which is the single factor that ties all school shootings together. Sure, let's stop bullying in schools. Who wouldn't want to do that? That won't stop school shootings.

Every country has disturbed teenagers, but ours allows them to buy military style weapons that can be used to easily commit mass murder. However, I do agree with you that Americans seem inured to mass murder, even mass murder of very young children. Our culture has been brutalized by the everyday level of violence and mayhem.
Americans were lied to by the NRA, and those aligned with the NRA are so sold on the lie, they think the solution is more guns in schools. You know... get potentially psychopathic students closer to weapons. They believe this deeply and we can't reach them. Dozens of children can be massacred, and they want to be the ones that feel victimized. Well lost that battle and this is the cost. All lives matter my ass.

No disagreement there, but notice that I was reinforcing my point that focusing on mental health is not going to solve this problem and probably not even put a dent in it. The country is full of troubled teenagers. Predicting which ones are going to end up going on a shooting spree in a school is a fool's errand that always gets reported with the observation that "they should have seen the signs". Yep. We see those signs in hindsight and lose focus on the real problem in the present and future--easy access to guns.

Where the heck did an 18 year old loser get the money to purchase $3k+ worth of guns? He probably got credit but how is that possible if you don't have a job and a credit score of zero? Is getting credit different in Texas? How did he have money to buy so much ammunition? Credit?

Who cares? He could have gotten the money in a number of ways. The point is that he was able to walk into a gun store and purchase two assault rifles with ammunition without even a waiting period or license to own or carry a gun. That's the problem.

Yes... I'm sure as the parents of slain children are cremating or burying their loved one, they'll be wondering about the credit rating of the shooter. Damn you to hell Experian!

How do you think an 18 year old loser got $3,800+ cash to buy two guns? Maybe there is more to this tragedy.

Behave yourself.

Again, who cares? The fact is that he had the money to purchase those weapons. I'm sure that there is more to this tragedy, but where he got the money from is far less important than what he did when he got the money.

Culture and population density my hairy arse. Get a fucking grip.

I have had a grip for a long time. Maybe too long. Certainly too long to launch into a fruitless detailed explanation of the mechanics of despondency and murder. I’ll just leave you with the fact that culture and population density are dynamic details whereas Genetics are a root cause. And that’s why I’m not here dreaming up “solutions”.

This shooting will probably fade from public consciousness even more quickly than Sandy Hook, which made a big splash.
Well the shooter wasn’t white so I do expect the story to fade rather quickly. Or a weird narrative about white oppression starting this young man on his path to death and destruction.
The reason it will fade quickly without even interrupting a republican lawmaker's lunch is because the victims weren't white.

This took place in Uvalde, Texas which has a population of 16,000. It is 80 miles from the closest city San Antonio. Population density isn't the issue here.

Race isn't an issue. The Las Vegas massacre involved a country music festival. The Church shooting... that was Texas too, killed over 20 people (white people). Nothing from the GOP.
