January 6 Hearings Live

The images moved me. The speakers were eloquent and to the point. Professional with conclusions based n evidence If it were a court of law Taump would be guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

It is not going to be enough for the republicans to grow a spine and a conscience, and to back up waving the flag with real patriotism..

In the long run this may spell the downfall of America.
I'd say that in spite of the evidence, the GOP would not interfere with Trump running for office again is the downfall of the GOP. They are selling their political souls to enshrine alt-right judicial appointments. And as we saw with Trump's first election, the price was seemingly worth it... in the short term at least. And if Trump wants to, he can be the nominee for the GOP again. Despite his violations of his Constitutional Oath.
It is only the first meeting, but Trump clearly comes accros as a Mussolini/Hitler wanna be.
Mussolini. Hitler could at least write a book. Trump is an idiot, like Mussolini was.
Republicans seem to be in denial that Trump is loyal to no one. If he had managed a coup his first order of baseness woudl be to sppress any and all thetas to power. He is doing it even as ex president, cowing republicans into submission.
As I noted, the GOP will support a Trump candidacy because he can win, and they can appoint highly partisan judges to important positions they don't have the ethical standing to hold. Trump winning in 2016 killed Roe v Wade. The cost is the death of our democracy, but with the alt-right getting to overinfluence who will have power post democracy death, that'll not be too bad for them either.

I wonder if Canada will take in a 70 year old American political refugee. I hear up there everybody has heath care.

I listed to a former homeland security officer say the tinings that they watched domestically were evident form the start of theTrump presidency was obvious. They track things like hate speech, hate crimes. and right wind extremists.

She said it became evident after a while it was building to something big. It fell o deaf ears.

When the riots happened I thought it was very predicable if you undertood the consevatve undercurrents. Hannity and Limbaugh as rabble rousers. It began with Obama IMO.

It is only the first meeting, but Trump clearly comes accros as a Mussolini/Hitler wanna be.

Rioters shout hang Pence and Trump says maybe they should. I still can't get my head around a president saying that. He is mentally ill.

It didn’t ‘begin with Obama.’ Obama had nothing to do with this insanity. The fact that a man who is black was duly elected POTUS twice amped up the kind of racism that has been simmering since the Civil Rights Movement—which need not have existed if malignant and viscous racism had not already existed.

The first day of hearings was really dramatic. Lots of new footage of the violence from a documentary filmmaker who was embedded with the Proud Boys. He also testified in person about his experiences. This and other details that emerged dispelled the myth that the event were just an angry protest that got out of hand. The Proud Boys and Oathkeepers were deeply involved with planning the entire thing, and they were at the forefront of breaking through the police lines. The mob just flowed in behind them. The attempts to get at Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence failed, but they had planned to capture them. The coordination with Donald Trump himself--that Trump personally pushed hard for these events to happen--proves that he has been the first president in the US history who actively tried to prevent a peaceful transfer of power. If the laws worked the way they were written, Trump himself would be arrested and charged with sedition. He is no longer in office, so he has no pretense of immunity from crimes committed while he was in office. So far, Garland has appeared to have no stomach for seriously holding powerful Republicans accountable, and Trump will likely never spend a day in jail for his treasonous behavior. Fox News should give him a lifetime achievement award for making a mockery of the the US legal system.

There is a Fox News producer, one that was the first at the network to declare Biden had won Arizona, who is going to be testifying on Monday.

Just heard that Geraldo Rivera was on Brian Kilmeade's radio program and started agreeing with the finding of the J6 committee and the show immediately cut him off and went to commercial.

Not allowed to buck the narrative.

I know otherwise. I heard it from conservative Evangelicals. I ended up on an email list for anti Obama propaganda. Cosevatve in meda like Limbaugh stoked the fires.

The roots of Jan 6 go far back. Over the last 50 years there have been right wing politic, judicial, and law enforcement assassinations. Bombings. Militias. You can go back to the John Birch Society for right wing extremists..

A deep anti govt sentiment in a large portion of population. Trump did not create it. He just is not all bright. At first he may have actually stumbled on what he could get people to do more than planned it. Like a kid playing with matches. Trump provided a focl point, the powerful image of the president.

Trump is guilty of an attempted coup trying to overturn an election, of that there is no doubt. He made use of a long standing segmnet of society.

The riots are over and we are seeing hearings. Nothing has changed in society.

Trump did not create it the antigovernment sentiment nor did Obama. I’ve been around and paying attention long before Obama. Obama’s presidency made a convenient target; Trump a convenient ‘hero.’ One was brave, the other is a spineless semiliterate racist entitled sexist rapist pig.

Reliable sources eh?

I know you’re old enough to remember JFK (I apologize if I’m wrong about that - don’t wanna saddle you with extra years!)
I know for a fact that this whole white nationalism thing pre-dated his presidency. Goldwater almost beat him.

This column is about the media, and this moment exemplifies America’s two parallel tracks of media. So if you watched Thursday night’s hearing by the House’s 1/6 committee, shown live by most of the major TV networks in the United States, let me tell you what I watched on right-wing TV at the same time.

The prime-time hearing began at 8 p.m. Eastern time. When Rep. Bennie Thompson gaveled the hearing to order, Fox News host Tucker Carlson ignored him. Carlson declared that the “ruling class” was giving “yet another lecture about January 6.” He called the hearing “propaganda” and reveled in his refusal to air it. “They are lying,” he said, “and we are not going to help them do it.”

Carlson then lied himself: He said “if something noteworthy happens” at the hearing, “obviously we will bring it to you immediately.” But his show did not do that.

When Thompson said January 6 was “the culmination of an attempted coup,” Carlson asked why the news media cared at all. He barely mentioned Donald Trump, even though the former president’s plot to undermine American democracy was the focal point of the hearing. Instead, he talked a lot about Democrats and questioned why other networks were committing “collusion” with the House by televising the hearing. “Because the Democrats and the left are desperate,” his guest Jason Whitlock said.

When Rep. Liz Cheney revealed many of the committee’s findings for the first time, Carlson said everyone knows that America “could face some real problems real soon;” implied that Congress shouldn’t be wasting its time on the 1/6 investigation; and called Thompson and Cheney “lunatics.”

Carlson sounded like an amateur magician who tries to distract kids when a performance falls apart: “Look over here, not over there.” He said, “Gas is over five bucks. Inflation is higher than it’s been in the lifetime of most Americans. Violent crime is making cities impossible to live in, and more than one hundred thousand Americans ODed on drugs last year. Why isn’t there a prime time hearing about any of that?”

It seems this committee is going tocarefully lay out what happened, how it happened, who financed all of this, and who planned all of this. And most important, Trump's parts in all of this and most importantly, Trump's intent. He is in danger of being section 18'd. And there were a lot of people in on this who are also going to be tried for conspiracy and insurrection. A bunch of proud boy leaders have already pled guilty to
such charges. If this committee can demonstrate Trump conspired knowingly to insurrection to steal the election, all the rest will collapse like house of cards. The false elector stunt alone.will send a lot of insurrectionist conspirators to prison.

They did a very good job of making that case in the first session. There was a documentary film maker embedded with the Proud Boy leadership and he got a lot of dramatic new footage that was released for the first time to the public. A group of about 300 Proud Boy and Oath Keeper insurrectionists marched to the Capitol even before Trump began his speech, because they served as the vanguard to break through the thin Capitol police lines when Trump's speech was done and the mob arrived. They had planned all of this very carefully, and they led the charge up to the Capitol and knew exactly where to go to break into the building. After casing the perimeter defenses, they went off to lunch while Trump finished riling up the crowd. Two groups in military "stack" formation went up the steps to the building and coordinated the search for Pelosi, Pence, and other congressional leaders.

I missed the Ivanka Trump testimony last night. I saw it today. I thought for sure she was about to breakout in the song Let It Go. She looked like a computer animation.

Just heard that 20 million people watched last night. Fox News barely gets six million on its best night.

Last night. Faux did not air the hearings.

Faux Noise - 2.957 million viewers
CNN - 2.617 million viewers
MSNBC - 4.161 million viewers

Source -Yahoo News
No numbers reported for C-Span or NPR. Nor Faux Bizness.

I agree. That was an impressive amount of new and unsurprising evidence of intent IMO. Made me keep thinking “If we know this shit went down with such certainty, why are these clowns still walking around posing a menace?”
