I think the answer is evident if you listen to the speech. He is, as you say, blasting the MAGAts. On one hand, that might stir “things” (MAGAts) up. On the other, he is trying to unite reasonable people regardless of Party, to oppose and prevent MAGAt fascism from abolishing democracy and converting America to the kleptocracy of Trump’s dreams.
Trump is desperate, and any attempt to restrain him will be met with violence. Having once elected him, that is now a price we will pay to get rid of him. Otherwise we lose everything.

The only problem I can see with the lighting is that one of the guards has his white gloves illuminated by a spotlight throughout, while the other's are in shadow, which ruins the symmetry.

He condemned half of America as enemies of the state because they chose not to vote for him or his party. I can't recall, ever, a president using a primetime address to be so brazingly hateful and partisan. But to say that Biden is not the facist is kind of joke. After all:

Considering Trump's long history of blatant slander and personal attack I don't see where the republicans have any reason for posturing and faux hurt.

All speeches by presidents are political. Biden is a hardened experienced politician. Despite his from the hip gaffes I doubt he says nothing formally he has not thought out and passed around.

The pundits' analysis ran through a range of views. The mid terms and presidentil elections are shaping up as Trump a threat to democracy vs inflation, immigration, and crime.

The republicans aka Trump lap dogs criticizing the speech as political is laughable.

Personally I think Biden was right on the mark. Trump represents an existential threat to our system. I don't think it will get him reelected.

I want the southern border closed. The democrats are doing nothing. I want to her Biden get tough on the border.

I don't have a problem at all with the content of Bidens speech. But why did he make himself appear like Darth Sidious with all the darkness and red coloring? How was that visual supposed to bring the nation together?

Yes. The Dems are no longer pretending that the GOP primary's results propping up a bunch of 2020 Election deniers isn't a threat to our nation's democracy. That the mere saying the 2020 election was "stolen" lifted people up in the polls once anointed by Donald Trump.

The Democrats have indeed decided to say what we know, Donald Trump and the right-wing fascist wave he is riding is a threat to our democracy. Half of the alt-right GOP House voted against the election in 2020.

Do I need to remind you of the color of the hats at the latest Trump rally? Can you point to something Trump said that was super unifying? How is it that demanding he be reinstated is unifying?
