DeSantis Flies Immigrants to Martha Vineyard

Yeah, I'm not at all curious as to what hypocrisy TSwizzle spoke of. I'm confident it's exactly what I expect.

Man, those migrants don't have a chance making it to Joint Base Cape Cod on a bus.

It got a response which was the purpose. Evoke a response.

The governor of Mass said it is a national problem and congress has to act to fix a broken immigration susyem.

The left calls out what Texas and Florida are doing, but say little about the root cause of the problem, a ridiculous immigration system and a loose border.

From the pundits it is not in the intermediate interest of both sides to take action on immigration. For the right it is a talking point. Open immgration is a talking point for the left.

The left has been trying to upgrade the immigration system for a long time and everytime it's been blocked by the right.

Immigration is only a problem for republican's (AKA the white party) because Hispanics are the majority of immigrants and most Hispanics vote democrat. Since the Republican (white) party can't get black folks to love them again after being infiltrated some time ago by fascists, the next option is to stop dem darn Hispanics from coming to "their" country.

You misspelled "The US has an unquenchable thirst for cheap labor."

When W was President, he had a plan to deal with immigration... and it wasn't the Dems who stopped it.

Yup. Steve doesn't seem to have a firm grasp on the history of the subject.

Not really.

Obama ran on immigration reform.

Right now democrats could certainly get enough republican votes for legislation but nothing is on the table.

I watched an old 1940s movie Border Incident. Mexican and American border agents work to bring down an American human trafificingring supplying American businesses with cheap illegal labor.

NIt is an old prtoblem.

Part of it is people anted cheap illegal labor. Both republican and democratic politicians have been founf d employing illegals as dometics

It has been kicked down the road by administrations on both sides.

If you are governor of Texas and don't have the resources or money to support an endless stream of people walking across the border and the fed is doing nothing, what do you do?

Maybe make a political statement by sending people to Martha's Vineyard a bastion of democratic wealth?

When I was a kid in the 50s I heard two terms, WOP and Wetback. WOP meant without passport those who came in without any documentation, today we would call illegals aka undocumented immigrants. Wetback meant Mexicans swimmig the Rio Grade.

You can say I do not understand history or you can blame republicans and say democrats are trying, political handwaving.

Not much nterest on my thread of what to do about immigration, about what I expected. Hand waving and pointing fingers is a lot easier.

Wrong.

Due to GOP opposition and the 60-vote filibuster threshold in the Senate, the U.S. Citizenship Act turned out to be a messaging or placeholder bill that did not move in Congress. To obtain green card relief, a different measure would need to become law.

Yes, we can.

Then stop doing it.

Oh, look! An immigrant complaining about immigrants and immigration.
Me being an immigrant should not preclude me from having an opinion on immigration policy (or lack thereof) of this country.

That you decided to go personal right off the gate does not bode well for the confidence you have in your arguments.
It's your opinion and your status that displays your hypocrisy.
Hypocrisy with a dose of racism thrown in for good measure. "Send them back to Africa" - where have we heard that before? Derec is anything but subtle.

It doesn't. You have a right to hold and express any opinion you see fit. And likewise, others are free to point out that many of your posts stink of racism and hypocrisy.

That you decided to go personal right off the gate does not bode well for the confidence you have in your arguments.
That you should decide to go to "they should be sent back to Africa" right out of the gate doesn't give me much confidence in your arguments either.

This is really getting interesting.

You think the response Desantis was looking for was "You are a complete asshole"?
The governor of Mass said it is a national problem and congress has to act to fix a broken immigration susyem.
It is a national problem. Anyone with a functioning brain understands this, Because there is no consensus at the national level or even with the two major political parties, there is no stable or coherent national policy.
The left calls out what Texas and Florida are doing, but say little about the root cause of the problem, a ridiculous immigration system and a loose border.
That is not the root cause. The root cause is that life in the USA is much better and/or safer than it is in the countries of the immigrants.

As an outsider I do find this statement puzzling.
So many people on these fora claim that the USA is riven by (you can insert your favourite ism or phobic in the following list) - racism, sexism, misogyny, homophobic, anti-women's rights, transphobic etc. etc. .
So why are all those people trying to get in? Did they not get the memo that the USA will be no good to them?

The inability of conservatives to perceive non-dualistic concepts is fascinating. Good OR bad. Right OR wrong. Heaven OR hell. It's like trying discuss philosophy with a toddler.

Obviously, those problems can exist in more than one country, to different degrees or in different ways, and there's also more than one reason to immigrate to a new country.

I agree some conservatives do have trouble with non-dualistic concepts as do all people at times.

It would be nice if some people here could acknowledge that their country is attractive to outsiders . And work together to look at your problems.

Well played DeSantis, exposing the gross hypocrisy of the wokesters. So much clutching at pearls :hysterical:
assuming this was sarcasm and you are laughing at desantis' failure.... but it's hard to tell with you... you have a... history, let's just say.
It's like there is a homeless person standing in front of me and you walk up and punch him in the face... then I say, "hey, why did you do that, that was terrible and very unchristian of you..." and I rush over to attend to his injuries you caused...
and your response is, "Iook at that lib clutching his pearls... I totally owned him"
No, you totally punched someone in the face and someone else called you out and offered the guy some help, making you look like an asshole and me like a caring human being that is an active participant in this thing we call civilized society.
