Twitter likely to take idiots offer to buy them for $43 billion

.
Elon Musk's cost-cutting plans may have left hundreds of Twitter employees on high-skill work visas on a countdown to deportation.
At least 250 Twitter workers appear to be employed on a H-1B visa, according to official records and now face an uncertain future. And according to analysis of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) data by the National Foundation for American Policy, that number could be as high as 670, or 8% of the company pre-cuts, Forbes reported.

You don’t think people n H-1Bs can find work within 60 days? I’ll bet they don’t even have to look. The work will find them.

For some maybe. But its not as easy as you think.

What's wrong with this economy? The inflation seems to have no effect on the job market. We are at full employment although we know the Republicans in the Federal Reserve don't like that.

Can't have employees having too much power, doncha know.

Elon Musk owns Twitter. These are the men he put in charge - The Washington Post - "The billionaire has installed several members of his inner circle to enact his vision for the social media platform"
Late last month, Elon Musk completed his acquisition of Twitter and immediately fired four of the company’s most senior executives.

In their place, he’s installed a small council of lieutenants to assess the company and begin implementing his vision. The group includes Musk’s personal lawyer, his chief of staff, a couple investor friends and a former Twitter executive who left the company years ago.

It's always struck me as odd that despite the rarity of the skills required for executive roles (as evidenced by the high pay these roles attract), the best person for the job, out of the entire population, so frequently just happens to be a personal friend or family member of the company's owner or chief executive.

It's an astonishing coincidence. ;)

Assuming the H-1B program works as designed, the sector(s) these individuals work in need workers. Odds are they'll be drawing a paycheck before their severance pay runs out.

yahoo!

I'm sure if any are dragged weeping and wailing to the deportation chamber, the media will be on their favorite punching bag like a bum on a baloney sandwich.

Yeah, that whole rarified air thing in the corporate world doesn't happen through hard work and super-competence.

I have a friend whose dad invested and helped build an oil based business. My friend's parents made him get a bachelor's degree and then he was brought into the corporation, surrounded with highly experienced and competent people and immediately paid more than them. I'll give him credit for not fucking it up, but that's about it.

We used to be such good friends. We'd go to the LA and Hollywood comedy clubs back in the late 80s and see the up and comers, some of whom hit it huge. I miss those times and the goofball he used to be. Now he's a snooty dickhead who thinks he's accomplished great things---we haven't spoken in over a decade. Sorry, but this one hits me personally.

I see, when Trump puts out mean tweets they need to be censored but when college kids do it, it’s ok.
Pretty much. It's pointless and unnecessary to censor something that everyone is going to ignore anyway.

When someone lies, the damage done is proportional to the number of people who will hear and believe that lie. So it's more important to block access when an influential person with millions of slavish cult members followers tells a lie than it is when some jerk nobody's heard of does the same.

I am bemused (but sadly not surprised) that this isn't bleeding obvious to you.
Nice try but you can not censor anyone's speech in the public square regardless of their popularity if you expect democracy to continue.

Furthermore, I would argue just the opposite anyway. If a college kid puts out a mean post that's just his opinion we cant hear. But if an elected politician is suppressed, that is political speech that has been suppressed.from the public.

And next time around it might just be your ox that gets gored and slaughtered.

Who among that group has a clue what it would take to make Twitter the place to be again?? Maybe the Ex-Twitter though I know nothing about the person. The others are likely clueless.

It reminds me of Trump hiring his cronies boasting he only hires the best people and most crashed and burned.

A lot of tech firms (Uber, Lyft, Strike) are laying off people and hiring is frozen in others. It ain’t pretty. And transferring H-1B is not straight forward.

The anguish Elon Musk elicits from some quarters is fascinating. Here’s a guy, trying to save the planet and people are rounding on him like he has just pissed in their corn flakes.

😂 Musk is the one freaking out if anyone. He's having a long running public meltdown that is showing no end in sight.

You can censor anyone's speech on platforms you own, and it would be a serious infringement on your rights if you were forced to publish their speech after you had decided you didn't want to.

I haven't been following Musk's tweets. What would the $8 subscription plan entitle one to do? Or more accurately, what would the people who don't want to pay have to give up?

Blue checkmarks get some 'upgraded' stuff for nothing right now. The blue checkmark club is exclusive and Twitter currently decides who gets it.

The new subscription service would provide all the previous blue checkmark benefits and some new ones. It would also democratise the benefits of the blue checkmark to the people who find value in having it but would otherwise not qualify for it.

AOC, of course, is deeply upset that she is being asked to pay for a product she uses. Of course, she doesn't have to pay. She can become one of the checkmarkless masses.

I eagerly await what she does actually. She hates Musk so much it's palpable, but she owns a Tesla and is a prolific Tweeter. The dissonance!

The problem is the system removes the important feature it used to have--the verification it provided.

The verified symbol used to mean something useful. Musk clearly didn't understand that. musk verified.png

He has had six months to think about these changes.
