Merged So what's next for Trump?

To denote when two or more threads have been merged
In 2022, it’s a full-time job keeping track of all the criminal investigations and civil suits facing Donald Trump. Luckily, today, we can cross one of them off the list: the 2015 lawsuit filed by a group of protesters who alleged they were assaulted by Trump’s security guards outside of Trump Tower. Y’know, the one that led to the revelation that the ex-president thinks it’s highly possible he could be killed by a piece of fruit. But more on the fruit later.

On Wednesday, Trump reached a settlement agreement with the plaintiffs, just days after the case had gone to trial. The suit revolved around a September 2015 incident, in which a group of activists protesting the comments Trump had made about Mexican immigrants while campaigning for president were allegedly assaulted outside of Trump Tower by his security guards. According to the plaintiffs, Trump’s head of security allegedly punched one of the protesters in the head while trying to rip away a sign that read “Make America racist again.”
Think they'll actually collect whatever he agreed to?

It’s a serious question. The left keeps crying that democracy is over but I suspect we will continue to have elections.
...
I am just curious what they think Republicans will do that will effective end democracy.

Start by installing "loyalists" in all the positions that control elections. That process is well underway already. If Republicans win big in a week, two years from now will be foregone.
.
But what will these “loyalists” actually do? Will they change the vote counts? Throw away ballots or results? What are the actual mechanisms they plan to use to *fix* the elections for Republicans? Can these types of activities really go unnoticed or unchallenged in our system?

What happens when a governor chooses not to certify the results of an election? Does that apply to all results even the ones Republicans may have one? Or can they say “when we won it was fair but where we lost was obviously fraudulent”? Do even regular Republicans (not MAGA types) think this is a good system for us going forward?

Are you serious? Republicans have ALREADY taken big strides toward voter suppression. Such suppression has ALREADY affected election results.

As just one example, a recent development is that one state — Georgia? — may reject mail-in ballots with no date written on the envelope.

Never mind whether the date is a sensible requirement — it isn't — or whether it is the law — it is. The fact is that it is a political issue with politicians lined up by whichever side gets the advantage. (The GOP gets a big advantage if the ballots in these undated envelopes aren't counted.)

Laws are enforced selectively. Florida would have gone for Gore in 2000 if mail-in ballots from the military that missed a legal deadline weren't counted. Out of "respect for soldiers" Gore didn't press this point. (Pressing would probably have been unsuccessful given GOP control of Florida's state government and SCOTUS.)

Stupidism is so rampant in America that the Trumpists will get 45% of the votes effortlessly. All that's necessary to subvert an election is a few votes at the margins.

You ask for ONE method of subverting elections. In fact the GOP takes a multi-pronged approach: Intimidation of voters and poll workers; making election supervision partisan in every R-controlled polity where they can; campaign lies; selective challenging of voter IDs; et cetera. Hacking of voting machines is a serious risk which may have occurred in the past. Recently some GOP operations, claiming to be investigating possible 2020 frauds, have downloaded otherwise-secret voting system firmware, perhaps as a prelude to hacking.

Suppression has already occurred but with very little public outcry. Republicans, almost without exception, support election frauds which help them. It's naive to think the next round of cheating will be turned back by public outrage.

Yes, I do. Courts frown very hard on voluntary settlements not being respected.

The Blob sez it’s “very very very likely” he will announce his ‘24 candidacy on Nov 14.

Presumably he is very very very confident that his enablers will be mopping up on the 8th. In truth, there will be a lot of races still to be decided on the 14th, and this will be his chance to grab the mic and scream fraud again. Hate to say it, but I hope someone offs him.

Trump needs to step up his game. "Ron DeSanctimonious" doesn't quite roll like "Crooked Hillary" or "Sleepy Joe."

Alright, who has his phone?

I very much doubt he knows words like "sanctimonious".

To be fair, "DeSanctimonious" does fit.

That's fine. His followers are still doing that Brandon crap because they think it is pwning the libs. They'll suck up DeSancitmonious immediately. Doesn't matter if none of them know what it is a play on. I mean, the fact he is name calling and they love that shit just shows how petty they are. Such is their admiration for the alpha bully. The Bromancer of Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin.

So when will Republicans propose laws to do away with elections?

They don't need no steenkin' laws. They have guns.

What would be the new way to get government representatives?

Inheritance is always good... and everyone else can be appointed by the Leader. Just like China and NK. The only question is, would Junior or Ivanka make the better dictator?

This particular deal puts him directly into murky waters. According to The New York Times, the project isn’t just some random real estate deal—it’s a deal with the government of Oman itself. Conflict of interest much?

Kathleen Clark, a law professor at Washington University in St. Louis, tells the Times, “This is yet another example of Trump getting a personal financial benefit in exchange for past or future political power. … The Saudis and Oman government may believe that giving Trump this licensing deal will benefit them in the future, should Trump become president again. This deal could be a way to ensure that they will be in Trump’s good graces.”

The behemoth AIDA project is led by the Saudi-based Dar-Al Arkan and is in conjunction with the government of Oman, which the Times reports owns the land. The concept includes 3,500 high-end villas, two hotels with around 450 rooms, a golf course (of course), and retail shops and restaurants.

I still haven't given up on my fantasy of Trump being Speaker. The scenario could play out like this - the GOP goes to Trump and doubles down on their threat that they stop paying his legal fees if he continues running for President. But they can't hurt his feelings so they offer him Speaker as a consolation prize. He'll grab it with both hands as it would likely piss of Pelosi and McCarthy and Trump can't be anything but a vindictive cunt. This also removes any obstacles for De Satan when he runs so basically everybody wins.

What can I say? I would really really love it if Trump becomes Speaker.

Never happen. It would mean he would have to actually work... and understand and follow those pesky rules thingies.

"Robert's Rules Of Order? Fuck him. He's a loser anyway."

A New York law that temporarily allows adult survivors of sexual abuse to sue their abusers beyond the statute of limitations for civil claims came into effect on Thursday – and with it, the first of what could be hundreds of new legal actions.

Among the first claims filed under the Adult Survivors Act (ASA), signed into law in May by Governor Kathy Hochul, is that of E Jean Carroll, a writer who accused Donald Trump of rape. Carroll filed an upgraded lawsuit against Trump minutes after the new state law took effect.
