Merged So what's next for Trump?

To denote when two or more threads have been merged
to stand for president in 2028 means that he would have lost in 2024, as well as 2020, making him a two time consecutive losing candidate; so on that basis alone they wouldn't choose him.

If that sort of thing mattered to the fascists, they wouldn’t have the apricot on their ballot this time.

It is basically impossible that Trump could run in 2028. He will either be dead, imprisoned, or so mentally deteriorated that he will need institutionalizing. Aside from all that he will have lost so much popularity and influence in the Republican Party that they will never again make the mistake of letting him be their presidential candidate again.
The Republicans would have to lose badly this year and in 2026 for that to happen, and I'm not going to count on that happening, because there are a lot of yellow-dog Republicans in the electorate.

However, he is likely to thumb his nose at the 22nd Amendment and the Republican Party will find it hard to criticize him. He is the Mule of American politics.
