Dominion starts serving lawsuits

Fox will go on with their business of fake news as usual, I suspect, maybe a bit more subtle to pass a minimal legal bar.
What I’m getting is “You may lie all you want, just don’t hurt anyone or say it’s news.”
I still wish the viewers would do a class action against FOX for lying to them.
And obviously it's going to be a structured settlement where the 3/4 a billion is going to be paid out over a period of time so long it will make J.G. Wentworth say "Jesus you guys are a bunch of crooks."
There’s no indication or logical reason for a structured settlement. Fox can write a check tomorrow.

Fox still has to deal with Smartmatic, which is suing for $2+ billion, their own shareholders, who are suing for god knows how much, and anyone else who benefits from the info Dominion unlocked.

And Dominion is still going after the individuals they’ve filed against, with absolutely no reason to consider settling. They can bankrupt every one of the bastards with legal fees.

What a bummer. I score this as Dominion winning the battle and Fox winning the war.
The loser, once again, is We the People.

Wait til you see the sanctimonious huffing and puffing Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity fill their air with, now that they’re safe from having to sit in the witness box under oath. They’ll become martyrs over this, spinning themselves as victims of lefty attack litigation and NEVER fully acknowledging their knowing lies to their moronic viewers, who probably wouldn’t care anyway.

And it’ll work.

I'm not sure it will work, to be honest. Plenty of reich wingers and Q-tards get their "news" from places like OANN, NewsMax, RSBN, Bitchute and Rumble nowadays. FOX is no longer *the* mouthpiece of the GQP and is just *a* mouthpiece of the GQP.

I do have a shitty theory, but still one worth considering. Roger Ailes was told to fuck off 7 years ago and it was his dream for FOX to be forever entwined with the GQP. I'm pretty certain Murdoch only views FOX as an advertising platform for all his other media holdings. which is why their "international experts" always are conveniently employed by outlets like The Sun or The Australian. If there is an uptick of attribution from FOX to such outlets it could mean that is what the Murdochs are going to repurpose FOX into.

Either way the end result is still a lack of accountability for propagandists posing as journalists. I know I should have managed my expectations with regards to this lawsuit better.

There is still the other voting machine lawsuit out there. And now that this much evidence of their lying is out there, it might encourage other lawsuits.

It ain't over yet. Dominion is still suing Sydney Powell and Rudy Guiliani. And in the past has stated other suits are still in consideration. Hannity, Carlson, Murdochs and Trump could still be sued. $787 million can pay for a lot of lawyers. Faux may be in serious trouble from stockholders. There is already one suit against Faux Corp underway. Will big streaming companies still be willing to pay heavy fees to stream Faux Noise content? And Faux Corp stock is going to take a big hit. This sets a precedent for Smartmatic. Smartmatic ain't going to settle for pennies on the dollar.

I sure hope Tucker Carlson and the other Faux Noise turds are made to pay personally.

And of course in this case it's good that the stockholders are suing themselves also, but aren't such suits rather silly? Instead of dividends, shareholders get settlement checks (though with generous lawyers' fees subtracted).

Yes, I know it will be 2021 shareholders collecting from 2024 shareholders: Justice would be served, vaguely, if the sellers in 2022 were pristine moralists who finally realized what kind of criminal corporation they were invested in, while the 2022 buyers were racist evil-doers eagerly endorsing lies and frauds. But I suspect most timed their trades because of their kids' schooling costs or what not. The evil billionaires already protected their wealth.

The good news is this settlement is vindication for Dominion Voting Systems, as any dumbfuck with two brain cells to rub together can understand Newscorp wouldn't pay out over $700 million if they weren't guilty as fuck of intentionally lying.

The bad news, Fox News viewers have fewer than two politics related brain cells to rub together. And even after all the info that came out regarding Fox News commentators private comments on this and 1/6... their viewers are still devote followers because, as far as politics go, they are as dumb as a fucking rock.

They are effectively the fan in this scene.

This morning on NPR, they had a prominent 1st Amendment attorney on who said Dominion has an historically strong case. He said "there's never been a case, where there's been this much evidence, both of falsity, and knowing falsity, and you've never seen a case where the 'actual malice' standard is met as this one is..."

He also expressed surprise that Fox hasn't settled, because now they have to deal with months of their most prominent hosts and some of their top executives testifying under oath that they lied, and knew they were peddling falsehoods. He said that of the hundreds of libel cases brought last year, only 3 went all the way to conclusion in court. He said "people recognize that nobody wins if you show all of Fox's laundry here, I'm astonished that they haven't done it."

Maybe Fox has a bunch of aces stuffed up their sleeves? Or did they offer to settle and Dominion refused or set terms that would cause irreparable damage to Fox? Are they just backed into a corner?

I hope it's the latter.
As it turned out, Fox had hundreds of millions of dollars stuffed up their sleeves. Dominion is a business, not a non-profit, and Fox hurt their bottom line severely, so they settled for the money, (and a nose-holding stifled-sounding acknowledgement of the truth) from Fox.

All the stuff Dominion uncovered will now be available to Smartmatic under discovery. Smartmatic is suing for $2.7 billions. And Smartmatic is also individual Faux personalities. No date yet is set for trial.

Smartmatic's post Dominion settlement is:
"Dominion’s litigation exposed some of the misconduct and damage caused by Fox’s disinformation campaign. Smartmatic will expose the rest.”

Smartmatic is suing for $2.7 billions.
The bad news? Rupert is supposedly worth more than 20b. He can pay that kind of chump change out of pocket, and never bat an eyelash. He’ll make it all back in a year, after he goes right back to selling lies to idiots.

I'm just going to copy what I said on another forum.

This is why they settled.
They were facing the fact that their hosts would be put on the stand, under oath, and would have to admit - as they did in the released texts and emails - that they knew the election was not "stolen."
Their business model is built on telling conservative viewers what they want to hear. The vast majority of their audience believes the election was "stolen." If Fox's feet were held to the fire in open court and had to admit this was a lie and that they knew it was, their business would be placed in jeopardy.
They did the math, and figured that a little over 3/4 of a billion was worth it to save the business...truth be damned.

The problem was, if it was established in a court that all Faux Noise on air talent were shameless liars, and the Murdochs knew it, why were these liars allowed to lie, and and what are the Murdochs going to do about it all? Is lying still allowed unchecked?

I suspect going forward that Faux News will be a little more careful in airing things they know to be false, and a HELL of a lot more careful about leaving behind paper trails proving they know the things they’re airing are false.

Nope. Here's their statement on the looming Smartmatic lawsuit:

“We will be ready to defend this case surrounding extremely newsworthy events when it goes to trial, likely in 2025. As a report prepared by our financial expert shows, Smartmatic’s damages claims are implausible, disconnected from reality, and on its face intended to chill First Amendment freedoms.”

In other words, "we lied, we paid, we'll continue to lie. We make billions every year. Go ahead...bring it."

And this is going to be a big boost to Smartmatic--Faux has already admitted lying.

Will it really be a big boost?

Fox basically has said "yes, we lied. How much will it take to make this go away?"
