There were polls done. Take the 5-8 top issues and dump everything else on the platform and focus entirely on those. It will sound cruel, but losing is worse because you get NOTHING on any other issue.
No gun control because the left should be arming up for what's coming. David Hogg in the DNC is a damn joke and might cost swing states. Ditch these idiot grifters with no real life experience for working class people.
Border control with controlled immigration policy later. Cut off fentanyl, drugs, and people trafficking by cartels. Trump won a 90% Hispanic county on the border because they were overwhelmed each day with thousands crossing the border illegally. If you don't see it they did.
Ditch all culture war issues like trans. DEI, etc, because when out of power you lose way more than being nuetral or keeping old men out of girls locker rooms. Maybe realize that's not a winning issue to lose everything else over. See what's going on right now for reference.

Why would anyone vote for GOP-lite when they can have full-fat GOP.
The GOP is no longer in charge. So you can win or not. My guess is soon the old GOP will sound good.
Remember, 50% of the country is not D or R. So court them and win. Don't and lose.
The Dems lost by not paying attention to the most important issues to the majority. And running Biden and Harris. And old white senile man and someone nobody voted for in a primary that couldn't finish a sentence. Derp. We all knew they were going to lose after the first debate with Biden.

This thread isn't about what you want. It's about how to win so you don't lose everything. Losers in today's environment get nothing they want. That's reality.
So I gave the answer. Take the main issues and create positions that the majority wants for solutions and win. Nobody needs to like everything. But if the left doesn't change on at least the top 5 issues they will continue losing and each time lose more and more.

The first 30 minutes of the Rachel Maddow show run down a lot of polls that show Trump in negative numbers. The worst of any president at this point.
It gets much worse when certain subjects are defined, such as all the firing of govt workers and the abandonment of Ukraine.

Bad people have always been around. The ability to turn people bad has always been a path to power. Bad people in power gets bad enough, heads roll until everyone still alive is sick of the bloodshed, they all sit down and become friends, and swear they’ll never let it happen again.
More bad guys with power show up the next generation or two, when everyone has forgotten what happened last time, and all hell breaks loose.

Today I contacted both my state's senators and urged them to take a stand and rebut Trump's statements about Zelensky and about who caused the war. I also urged them to take a stand against trying to extort rare metals from a country, supposedly an ally of ours, that is being bled white defending itself.
Both senators are Repubs. Did this do any good? Depends partly on how many other Ohioans contact them. Depends on polls as they emerge in the coming days...because when you're talking Repub, it's no good relying strictly on the morality side of things.

If the only way for the Democrats to win is to become populists, and the point of voting for the Democrats is to defeat populism, then what can voters do other than bow down to their new populist overlords?
The people want a lot of stupid shit. They want cheap food, but also to deport the people who harvest it cheaply. They want a balanced budget, tax cuts, and no reductions in spending. They want to eliminate drug abuse, by doubling down on the policies that have made drug smugglers and producers unimaginably wealthy and powerful.
It's impossible to give the people what they want; Not merely politically difficult, but logically and mathematically impossible.
Trump got elected by promising it to them anyway. Harris got defeated because she wouldn't promise anything that was very obviously and indisputably impossible, just because it was popular.
Reality based policies cannot win, if the electorate no longer believes in the objective existence of any reality. And policies that fly in the face of reality are disastrous, regardless of what party tries to implement them.
Abandoning reality, even if that is the only path to victory, is not an option for any sane elements of any polity.

I agree with you. But if you think you can do that by aping the GOP platform and competing on the issues they've chosen, you'll be perpetual losers.
The most important issue for most people - the people who aren't D or R as you say - is their personal economic situation.
The Dems could have done a lot more to help workers while they were in power, and they could have promised a lot more to help workers once re-elected, but they did neither, because they're spineless, out-of-touch centrists.
