So, besides voting (it's too late), What can we do?

People need to be more like the governor of Maine who told Trump that she'd see him in court. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politi...vernor-tells-trump-on-transgender-athlete-ban

“Is Maine here, the governor of Maine?” he asked.

“I’m here,” she replied.

“Are you not going to comply with it?” he asked.

“I’m complying with state and federal laws,” Mills replied.

Trump responded, “We are the federal law.” He again threatened the state’s federal funding and said Maine may be a Democratic state but its residents largely agree with him on this issue.

“We’re going to follow the law,” she said.

“You’d better comply,” Trump warned. “Otherwise, you’re not getting any federal funding.”

“We’ll see you in court,” the governor replied.

“Good, I’ll see you in court. I look forward to that. That should be a real easy one,” Trump said. “And enjoy your life after governor because I don’t think you’ll be in elected politics.”

Trump made a similar funding threat Thursday night as he spoke to a group of Republican governors. He said that he “heard men are still playing in Maine” and that he would pull funding because of it.

“So we’re not going to give them any federal funding. None whatsoever, until they clean that up,” Trump said.

The Maine Principals’ Association, which governs high school sports in the state, said earlier this month that it would continue to allow transgender female athletes to compete. The association’s executive director, Mike Burnham, said it would follow the Maine Human Rights Act, which bars discrimination based on gender identity.

Fear and cowardice aren't going to help. They will make it easier for this shit to continue. Regardless of whether or not you support transgender rights, which I do, the governor had the courage to defend her state laws against Trump. This is what we need more of, if we want to overcome what this mad man is trying to do to the country.

Now do us a favor and don't start arguing about trans rights. The point is that the governor of Maine stood up for her state's laws and she has been applauded by a large number of people. I've read about 10 articles about her and all the applause she is getting for her courage.

Do we really expect those personel to be the most uber talented and agressive people to begin with?
Yes. Same with our elected personnel.
But our expectations couldn’t be much further from the reality in the case of elected personnel.

what would be the point in gloating about all the savings if the intent is to hire new people to replace them? Since most of the firings right now are not based on performance assessments it’s not like they know they’re only getting rid of dead weight.
WHAT “savings”?

These clowns are not trying to “save” anything. They are trying to destroy the government because the government locks up used to lock up criminals like them.

The bill in the House cuts something like 800 billion from Medicaid. What will all the poor MAGAs who rely on M'caid or SNAP do when they lose these benefits? Will they blame it on the Dems or finally come to their senses and realize they've been had?
They'll blame it on the dems. That's been the general trend lately, they'll rationalize anything for their orange god.

I’m not saying he is making savings but he is. So if his plan is for savings then you wouldn’t rehire into positions you just fired people from for savings purposes.

And they will be hired back again. First they cut until it does not run and then they bring back only what it takes to be efficient. It is always the standard way they do it.
But this is not a great approach when it comes to things like air safety, food inspections, infrastructure safety, medical treatment for the elderly, etc.

What’s the number of plane crashes per year to know the optimal number of FAA employees? What’s the right number of salmonella outbreaks to know the right number of FDA employees? How many old people should not get their healthcare to get the right a mount of Medicare spending?
I suggest that average life expectancy is the bottom line. It dropped hard under Trump last time. The average life expectancy in the United States in 2020 was 77.3 years, which was the lowest it had been since 2003! Good job Donny.
The average life expectancy in the United States in 2024 was approximately 78.4 years
Now we're going to see it plummet again, but trumptards won't notice.

The DOGE check revenue comes from wages not being paid to the cut employees. NOT printed currency.
So, when all those employees stop being able to buy stuff, what effects do you think that will have on the economy?

Not to mention all the people who will not get the services those employees provided.
Tom
During my own life whenever I lost my job to a plant closing the standard rhetoric from Chamber of Commerce and Democrats was that "No worry's, you have been freed up to find work elsewhere!". Biden said union auto workers from closed plants "should become software programmers!"

With that in mind, whats wrong with laid off federal employees finding jobs in the private industry like everyone else? Or starting their own small business? That way they are actually making products that other people can use and still earning their same paycheck to spend on the economy. Doesn't it seem more efficient for those workers to be spending their time improving your life rather than just re-spending your tax money that you could have went out and bought goods with? After all, the Chamber of Commerce and Democrats have said its no problem to re-train (after 30 years at the same job) or move across the country.

Just asking.
Please mark your sarcasm as such.
How many dullards in a penny?
The average life expectancy in the United States in 2020 was 77.3 years, which was the lowest it had been since 2003!
And you don't suspect Covid for that?

Of course. Trump couldn't have done it, and killed over a million Americans without spectacularly mismanaging COVID. Also, the ensuing economic damage, near double digit inflation etc. ... COVID was Cheato's 'greatest' accomplishment in so many ways.
How many dullards in a penny?
The exchange rate is highly variable :)

Can someone please explain the 'No Kings Act' to me?
What does it say?
What do they say it will do?
What will it actually do?

I received 2 texts asking me to sign a petition for the act.
I suspect it was from the same scammers who promised to 5x match my donation (to them) for the Harris campaign.

COVID was Cheato's 'greatest' accomplishment in so many ways.
OK. I forgot how he kept downplaying COVID. 'Its nothing. It will be over in a month. Get back to work.'
So did the entire GQP and some 75 million 'Murkins.
He was apprised of it in November 2019, did nothing, then lied about it repeatedly, offered lethal cures, disparaged the best minds in epidemiology and inspired other countries to reject vaccines, masks etc.
I don't know how he could possibly have done worse.

I'm afraid it will do nothing because we have a do nothing trumpsucking legislature.
What it's supposed to do?
  1. Clarify that presidents and vice presidents (both current and former) do not have immunity from criminal prosecution for actions that violate U.S. criminal law
  2. Remove the Supreme Court's jurisdiction to hear appeals related to presidential immunity from criminal law
  3. Establish additional jurisdictional and procedural guardrails, such as allowing criminal actions against a president or vice president to be brought in any applicable district court or the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia
  4. Create statutes of limitations for constitutional challenges to the act

The only way to recover is at the ballot box, but I don't think that's going to be an option in the future. If we do have free and fair elections again, then okay, we'll come back from this. I'll believe it only whenI see it though.
+1
Even in the unlikely event that “free and fair” elections are held in ‘26, what reason do we have, to expect the massive continuing TrumPutin disinformation machine to be any less effective than it was last year?
I’m afraid this Country is well and truly fucked now.
I'm afraid I agree.

And if it wasn't the GOP's shrieking, 24/7 bullhorns, it's also the ineptitude of the Democratic party. Tens of millions of votes were not necessarily cast for Harris, but against Trump.

What happens if the orange savior isn't there to vote against anymore? At this moment in time, it appears likely the GOP would have to run a more conventional candidate who may have the same horrific ideas, but will be more identifiable as not batshit insane. That could bring enough never-Trump voters back to the GOP's side.

Oh, and SCOTUS. If you want to really get to the bottom line of why we're so fucked, look no farther. If Democrats were to occupy the White House for four terms in a row following Trump, we might get to a 5-4 disadvantage.

Right? Not much hope IMO. Citizens United made this day inevitable. That in no way reduces the heartache of seeing our so-called President in lockstep with the Russian dictator, kissing his butt in gratitude for getting him elected. The corrupt orange bastard's attempt to extort Ukraine for anything the Russians have not destroyed or been unable to grab by force, is enough to push someone over the edge (hopefully!).
But even that pales in comparison to the suffocating depression brought on by the realization that tens of millions of stupid American dumbfucks actually endorse this shit.
It sounds SO OLD to keep saying "never thought I'd see the day!" but I never thought I'd see the day.

I don't know a thing about the government or their immediate strategy. But in private industry its done all the time for savings purposes. They get rid of the senior high paid workers and replace and rehire the absolute needed positions with young people who are the hard workers with low salaries.

But that is not what is happening here.

They are firing the probationary employees because.m they are simply the easiest to fire. These are the newly hired and newly promoted. Probably the most productive and enthusiastic employees in the federal government — the last ones you would want to fire.

I thought you were a labor union supporter. A lot of these people are in a labor unions.

There seems to be a tacit assumption in this thread that the value of experience and expertise of senior workers has less value than the vim and vigor of the less experienced younger replacements.

We should be anticipating our prospect of receiving our $5000 dodge check which will be real revenue (not just printed currency) we can spend without inflating the rest of our currency. https://www.northjersey.com/story/n...25-stimulus-refund-check-meaning/79290330007/

And if enough of us have confidence this money is not just printed we might actually spend it (versus investing in bitcoin) on US manufactured products that may actually help our own GNP and standard of living to rise.

I'm curious where @RVonse came up with his "real revenue" meme. Did he pick this up at OAN or Truth Social? Or is this his own original meme derived from RVonse's expertise in monetary theory?

I'll guess that what RVonse means by "real" money "not just printed" is that the $5000 is savings from laying off medical researchers*, FDA inspectors, DoEnergy and DoEducation employees, etc. rather than filthy "fake" money gained by taxing the rich. RVonse will have no complaint when record-setting Trump deficits are posted.

* - Yes, a Federal judge has enjoined Trump from illegally cutting off already-approved research grant money. But one of Trump's tricksters has come up with a ploy to circumvent that.
