The Purge

Judicial branch judges, federal court judges, can't be fired by the Executive branch.
Nor can probationary employees who have no demonstrable performance issues. But...

Probationary employees in the executive branch are protected by laws.

Judges in the Judicial branch are protected directly by the constitution.

We've already seen congress start to go after judges. It's the only way.

I'd say it is obvious Trump is working to a plan. Probably not his.

8th grade civics he triple balance of power. Congress, execute branch, and the Supreme Court.

If the balance of power fails then it may be the end of our experiment in democracy. For it to work people in all three branches must be able to put the country before personal interests.

And, I'm happy to say that my son who works for the DOD just got a notice telling him he was considered an essential employee despite being technically on probation since he went from sub contractor to employee just a few months ago. Maybe there is hope.
and being “essential” means he’ll work during the impending shutdown.

And changing his status or making it continually questionable, accomplishes the objective of making him feel subject to the whim of the apricot.

I don't think it has failed yet.

Someone put the idea in Trump's head about annexing Greenland. That and Panama will be major tests if if he tries to take militrary action.

Will republicans in congress let him get away with it, and will the militray follow illegal orders.

What do you mean? We have Nazis in the White House.

Dershowitz flushed all his credibility years ago.

Pity the poor guy. Isn't he the one who went to a Jeffrey Epstein party and the only masseuse he got was middle-aged?

I don't know why people have so much faith in the military not to follow illegal orders. Historically speaking militaries haven't done a great job of disobeying. Yes, they took an oath to the Constitution, but guess what, people have taken oaths on Bibles and broken those oaths. Oaths don't mean shit. Also, who's stepping in in the first place if the military commits an illegal act? Is anyone going to be prosecuted or sent to prison? Nope? Okay then. Maybe prosecuted, but doesn't mean anything without other consequences.

I asked a vet about this years ago. He said sure you should not obey an illegal order, but you will be court martialed.

You might be if you were wrong about how to interpret law or if it is questionable until it is straightened out. In theory, you tell your superior in the chain of command that "Respectfully, sir, I cannot obey that order as I believe it is inconsistent with the Uniform Code of Military Justice." In theory, everyone then agrees with you and says how special you are as you all sing kumbaya around a campfire. In practice, snitches get stitches, there is a lot of pressure, and even rogue vigilante worship.

There isn't going to be a shutdown, but right now, I'm worried the idiot will send people like my son to some other office far away. That is what they have been doing this week. People are being relocated, sometimes thousands of miles from their homes. My son was told they all have to be back in the office 3 days a week, starting on the 24th. He said it will be a nightmare as they don't have enough desks or parking spots in the lot. Since he is the only highly experienced programmer/developer in the entire department, maybe they won't make him go work in an office on the other side of the country. He will quit his job before he does that or work from home until they fire him. I don't know how federal employees are putting up with this shit.
