Yes, WHY are RV and DJT(?) so focused on "heavy manufacturing"? There are a variety of other U.S. exports that help balance the trading deficit. For example
- Foreigners who arrive to study at U.S. Universities bring dollars for tuition and other expenses. But Trump's policies (anti-education, anti-DEI, anti-free speech) are causing such "education tourism" to plummet.
Swammerdami thank you for helping me see an angle of the colleges I had not considered. It was always a curiosity to me why our colleges had become so racist and hating of white men. After reading your post this practice makes perfect sense for business reasons. I do still wish colleges were not so racist but their racist DEI practice at least makes sense for their promotion and world wide advertising.
“Hating white men”? Where do you get such ideas?
You are absolutely right laughing dog. I should have been more specific and said "hating non Jewish gentile white men". These elite colleges do still give the Jewish white men a big break although their numbers are decreasing some too. Jewish white men do continue to be well over represented compared to the rest of they e population.
Jewish students are enrolling less at many of the Ivies and going to a broader range of institutions than before.

(The Center Square) – The college enrollment of white students has been dropping by a larger percentage than any other race bracket, while anti-white college courses abound.

Let me help you out a little here. I went to a high school that was primarily made up of kids who were either Jewish, or of Italian heritage, along with a very small number of Black kids and a small percentage of those who were shall we say Lily White, like me.
I would assume for both genetic and environmental reasons almost all of the Jewish kids were excellent students, who usually got all As and had high SAT scores. Most had parents who were highly educated professionals. They were all college bound.
My Italian classmates, with the exception of my best friend had no interest in college. Their parents worked in hourly jobs, often in skilled labor etc. Even my very smart Italian friend had a dad who drove a truck and a stay at home mom. These kids grades were average or worse. The girls took classes in typing, bookkeeping and subjects associated with secretarial work, as that type of work was in high demand in the 60s. The boys took courses like plumbing, mechanics, woodworking, as these trades were taught in my high school back in the day. They likely went on to find jobs as plumbers, electricians, mechanics, etc. Such jobs offered good salaries and benefits as well as opportunities to become self employed if. you were motivated. Imo, these professions are in many ways more important and valuable compared to some professional jobs that require college degrees. Even a person with a Phd might not know how to fix a toilet, replace a faucet, replace the brakes in their car, or an electrical outlet in their home. Mr. Sohy can do those things but his degree is in engineering, not English.
My point is there is a good reason why so many Jewish kids were accepted into the supposedly better schools. They had better qualifications based on their grades and standardized test scores. They were encourage to make learning their number one goal and to work towards a professional career etc.
The Black kids in my school were either very smart with good grades or similar to the Italian kids, but they were all good kids. It was mostly the Italian boy who got into trouble at school. I recall one who went out of his way to piss off an older English teacher. She would lose it and tell him to leave class, which was exactly what he wanted.
While statistically having a college degree means a higher salary, there are many ways to be financially successful without a college degree. Not everyone wants to go to Harvard and plenty of popes don't want to go to college. I do think that technical colleges are very important these days since afaik, high schools no longer teach one how to become a plumber or an electrician. These things are taught in technical colleges, along with nursing, and other health care jobs. If one is motivated, there are lots of opportunities.
Two year schools are also less expensive and can be a great way to start a career, and you can always obtain more formal education later. My son has a two year degree in computer technology, and he can build a computer from scratch, but he decided to return to school 2 years later and obtained a BS in programming. He loves his career to this day.
I think all work is important and workers should all be treated fairly, earn enough money to have decent shelter, food and the basics that make life more enjoyable. All workers should receive healthcare benefits, and time off. The workload should never be unreasonable, with the exception of those who want to do extra work and are paid well for this extra effort. But, as long as have someone like Trump and his cronies in power, we are all fucked one way or another.
When he deports immigrants, even those who are here legally, he is depriving the county of having good workers who are willing and able to do jobs that are very much in demand. Construction work is one example and the brightest of those workers often open their own business, like the Mexican immigrant who will paint our house soon. Some immigrants are medical professionals or studying to be and a few of them have been deported. We have an incompetent maniac as president. He is a felon. In fact, several of the charges that were brought against him have already been dropped or deferred by the Republicans. For example, there was so much obvious evidence that Trump tried to overturn the Georgia presidential results in 2020. We all heard him ask the SOC to do it. But, the Republicans have done everything imaginable to stop Willis from prosecution him, prior to him running for president again.
The man is a criminal and since the start of his 2nd term, who has committed many criminal acts, but unless and until more Republicans in Congress realize not only what a threat he is to the country, he's a threat to their own next election as more and more people are gradually turning on Trump. There are more protests today. if the crowds grow large enough over the next year or so, we have a chance of ending this reign of a madman.
it takes time and it's hard to reason with a cult member, but things are starting to head in a better direction. Congress can enforce the court orders and I think we will see change for the better in the midterms. Some Rs in Congress will no longer fear him as more of their own constituents criticize and protest their cowardliness. I think some Rs are not quite as awful as they currently appear. If they can break free from the cult, we will all benefit.
Gotta go for now.
