Everything they were doing ought to have been secure--the apps they used, the email, the phones, the environment, the network, the locations, even the contact lists, etc. If Mike Waltz is the national security adviser, then it is really still some responsibility within that role for having used a personal phone that was used in the campaign with a previous contact list and a bunch of other security holes. Everyone in the chat ought to have been aware of all of the risks they were--and probably still are--creating.

How long did he expect it to take? Do you think Putin intended for the Special Military Operation to take multiple years and 600,000 casualties? I wonder if he expected to be sending Russian men into battle sitting in the back seat of a Lada.

I find this story less interesting because of the callous lack of security, and more because this got leaked out, almost assuredly by the Trump Admin itself. There is a faction in the Trump Admin that doesn't like Hegseth and they are trying to push him out.
