Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

@Derec Did you see the news today?
The mayor of Newark NJ was arrested by ICE. Criminals and illegals indeed.

If ICE stopped me, a US Citizen whose citizenship goes back 100% to my great grandparents and I can trace my family in Cape Cod and Maine to the 1600's stopped me, can I call them fascist scumbags? Will they take my phone which has photos of my passport, my birth certificate, my parents birth and deat certificates, and my Real ID in my wallet? Will they just ignore them? Ship me off to to the Louisiana concentration camp and send me on at military plane to El Salvidor goulag because they deny my constitutional rights to due process and habeas corpus? I put my chances at 50%.

Me or some other natural born US citizen. It way it will happen by the thousands because I have a Trump is a Fascist bumper sticker on my car.

Trump and the Fascist ICE have act eyond the law.

Also dodging prosecution for insurrection and treason, don't forget about that.
Tom
He wasn't changed with either. And the only case that actually went forward was the stupid one about him paying hush money to a porn actress.

Wasn't charged with that either. If you want to be pedantic, right back atchya.

Bilby is in Austrailia. Remember who founded Austrailia? :p

The judge knew what she was doing. (Civil Disobediance) She knew the detailes better than you or I. The law is her full time job.
Civil disobedience is defined as deliberately breaking the law to make a point. As you say, she's a judge and knows the law. You are making my point for me.
You are falsly assuming you know anything about the deportees.
Again, I am not defending Trump's process.
But Dems swung too far the other way.
Then you are missing the point. Or don't know the history of it.
I do not think I am. Can you enlighten me about what I am supposedly missing?
Wrong. It is about the faschists doing the removels. And indiscrimant deportations.
Bilby is equating political persecution with a government going after criminals.
It is absolutly wrong for Rump's branch of the government to do so. It needs the JUSTICE branch and Due Process.
The executive branch is certainly the part of government tasked with doing things like detaining people or deportating them. It has always been that way.
It is the job of the judiciary branch to render decisions. Like ordering that pro-Hamas Islamist chick from Tufts released.
Then you don't understand the poem. Or history.
I understand both.

Ok, he was charged with recording a hush money payment to a porn star wrong. A nothing misdemeanor elevated to 34 felonies based on nothing but Alvin Bragg's overinflated ego.
It was a stupid case that ended up helping Trump far more than it hurt him.

That was a few days ago, not today. This past Friday he was arrested for trespassing at a new ICE detention center he he didn't want to open. He was released a few hours later.
By the way, this mayor, one Ras Baraka, is on the left-wing of the Democratic Party.
This New Jersey mayor wants to be a governor like Ron DeSantis or Greg Abbott — but for the left

No, he doesn't.
Then you should have used different language then condemning "going after criminals".
The original was about what the Nazis did. And according to the Nazis, communists and social democrats were criminals, and Jews were foreigners who had no right to even be alive, and certainly not in Germany, in the first place.
So, you are equating US government going after criminals with Nazis going after political opponents.
And you are equating deporting illegals with persecuting, and eventually murdering and trying to entirely wipe out, Jews.

Law enforcement and securing borders are two core responsibilities of any government.

Suspending Habeas Corpus, that is quite unimagineable. Glad we have our in house fascists to not protest suvh an act.
IIRC Licoln suspend Habeus Corpus at least twice. And he a Republican (I think)!
There was an ever so slightly difference between the two with regards to context. And using an example that occurred over two and a half centuries ago is some pretty fucking weak justification.
Just reminder myself that what was/is doing is not something unique or unheard of.
He has a very, very tenuous historical precedent to call upon if he so wishes.

No justification though for his actions.

There's a lot of easy political capital to be made by keeping people scared of immigrants and crime and angry about them. Also, it keeps making those burglar alarm companies profitable.

We have more lights on at night in my neighborhood at light than a Broadway stage, even though it's a very safe neighborhood. You can't even see the stars because of all the lights. Americans are easily frightened.
It is the amount of guns in the hands of the incompotent or angry that would bother me the most.

But bilby seems to think that going after criminals and illegals is wrong in itself.

I do not think judges should be aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
The judge knew what she was doing. (Civil Disobediance) She knew the detailes better than you or I. The law is her full time job.
You can check you own spelling, like in the old days.
That is not in my skill set. Never was.
But they should also not be gazillion stages of appeals to deportation. Nor should "sanctuary cities" be a thing.
And asylum should go back to what it was intended to be - offering protection for people genuinely persecuted in their countries. Not a way for millions of people to come here and flaunt our immigration laws.
You are falsly assuming you know anything about the deportees.
That's not what bilby's plagiarized poem implies.
Then you are missing the point. Or don't know the history of it.
I was commenting on bilby's poem. The original was about communists, social-democrats and Jews. Not about criminals and foreigners who had no right to be in Germany in the first place.
Wrong. It is about the faschists doing the removels. And indiscrimant deportations.
But neither do I agree with bilby that it's wrong for the government to come after criminals and illegals
It is absolutly wrong for Rump's branch of the government to do so. It needs the JUSTICE branch and Due Process.
that has nothing to do with what I was objecting about re bilby's derivative verse smithing.

Now you're blaming the Brits too?

Also not what he was charged with. Mistaken payments are not felonies.
The crime he was charged with was a misdemeanor that Bragg elevated to a felony for political reasons.

Please try to get it right. It's very easy to discover what he was actually charged with.
This is pedantry is what it is. The point is that it was a nothingburger misdemeanor that Cyrus Vance already passed on prosecuting, and Alvin Bragg decided to use some questionable legal maneuvering to elevate it to a felony so he can prosecute it even though the statute of limitations for the underlying crime already passed.

Spin it however you want, this prosecution should not have happened. It helped Trump politically as it made him appear as a victim of a political witch hunt, and not without reason.

Frustrating when you're on the receiving end of pedantry, isn't it? Maybe it's time for some self reflection. And you're still leaving out some important facts like;

- Trump knowingly and willingly suppressed the initial investigation.
- Trump knowingly and willing instructed Bill Barr to drop the case federally.
- It was proven that Trump knew what he was doing was illegal and did it anyway because he knowingly and willingly suppressed information that voters had a right to know.

Considering how you repeatedly say you are not a Trump supporter (and there is clearly no reason to doubt you at your word), it is a complete mystery why you left these facts out. Perhaps you did it "by mistake".

Depends on what you mean by “went forward”. There were several cases going forward. He was just lucky enough, along with help from the judiciary, to outlast the legal process in these other cases.

I'm directly descended from a soldier who was in the battle on Breed's Hill, later made famous as the "Battle of Bunker Hill" and on my father's side there's also a soldier who served in the Revolution and a possible connection to Samuel and John Adams. That likely means nothing if I'm deemed a "terrorist" for a whole lot of posting anti-Trump memes on social media.

I mean, Trump ally Roger Stone said that one of my Senators (Mark Kelly) should be tried and executed for treason, despite the fact that he's a decorated combat veteran AND an astronaut who flew multiple missions on the Space Shuttle.
