It would be sweet to see some hardball played. How many general officers and colonels are there in the California National Guard? How many of them will stand with the fascists if Newsome instructs them to reject illegal orders? How many policemen and other armed officers remain loyal to California? Should they be instructed to shoot at treasonous soldiers on sight?
Speaking of Kristi Noem the Secy of HS, here is a video showing a Senator listing some of her crimes and treasons while she looks on. If she or other treasonous criminals sets foot in a state run by patriots, should she be thrown in jail awaiting trial?

In the video, he insists it’s not an insurrection—yet—but his Administration and media keep using the word insurrection repeatedly.
(As an aside: this is happening at the same time lawsuits are moving forward by January 6 militia groups like the Proud Boys. These are lawsuits against the federal government that Trump is very unlikely to oppose—because he wants these groups to be glorified and regain standing.)
So while insisting it’s not an insurrection yet, Trump is trying to legally position himself to invoke the Insurrection Act—and now he’s saying, “There will be troops everywhere.”
That kind of statement is only going to raise tensions, fuel more protests, and justify even more military escalation. It feels like we’re watching a calculated buildup to a breaking point—until the unrest reaches a level that can be called an insurrection, and then he’ll finally get to do what he’s been angling for all along.

I don't want hardball. I want boring. I want to go a three day weekend at the race course and check out the news and nothing new has happened.
The one thing that bothers me the most about ICE are the masks. That is nothing but dystopian. The faceless shouldn't enforce the law.

Still, this hasn't been done by a President (unilaterally taking control of a state National Guard), since a President tried to protect Civil Rights protestors in Selma, Alabama.
This isn't the top of a slippery slope, it is on the way down it.

Good analysis on the events this week, the most dangerous in America since arguably the civil war.
1. Trump broke the richest man in the world. After less than 24 hours, Musk deleted his tweets and made conciliatory statements, while Trump continued to mention Elon's drug use. The oligarchs will take note and further chill any criticisms of Trump. He owns them.
2. Trump illegally federalized the national guard. He made an open ended order to Pete Hegseth to also bring in other parts of the military. They are laying the groundwork to invoke the insurrection act. Manufacturing a crisis to consolidate further power.
3. Tanks and weapons being shipped in to DC. Trump's birthday parade to display to all Americans who really has all the power.
They are also normalizing highly militarized officers, swat team tactics, to arrest restaurant workers. I believe it is also bei g done purposely to provoke exactly the kind of protests we are seeing in LA, so they can then take the next steps in their fascist project. With the 66% increase in DHS budget, most of it going to ICE and detention centers, as well as the military budget increase, while cutting everything else, they are laying all the groundwork for the gestapo soldiers they will need to enforce their fascist police state all across the US.
The low hanging fruit of the easy to find undocumented immigrants and arresting them showing up to their court hearings and ICE appointments, working their restaurant and construction jobs, going in front of Home Depot will soon be over. The next phase of the crackdown will be more 4th amendment violations, raiding homes and businesses with their swat teams without proper probable cause and warrants. Coming soon to every city in America (or at least in Democratic cities, the red cities seem to be allowed to mostly spared the worst of these tactics).

I think maybe totalitarianism is the wrong word. Putin is a totalitarian dictator. Trump is a hapless pawn of the Corporatist oligarchy.I was at Walmart today... buying distilled water. When Trump took office 2x, the price for a gallon was 97 cents. Today it's $1.37.
Do tell - is distilled water imported from China? Or is Walmart opportunistically predating on its customers? A 40% increase in price over five months should have to be somehow justified IMHO. I'm sure that the complaints, if they exist, are rather muted, since everyone is used to everything costing more. If it costs Wally World 40% more to produce or buy a gallon of distilled water than it did five months ago, I'll eat my hat.

They neither know nor care how government works, they only know which politician talks about stuff that bugs them, making hollow promises to get rid of the Others who so pain them. Simple, easy. The fact that Trump is intentionally provoking responses to justify his own violence doesn't even occur to them and they wouldn't object if it did.

Water costs about 70¢ for 1000 litres here; Boiling it is the bigger cost, but you are still talking ¢/100 litres, not ¢/litre.
A liebig condenser can be had for $50-100 from any lab glassware supplier.
Sell it to your neighbours for 50¢/gal, and you will soon recover the cost of the setup. If you use a lot, you needn't even bother selling on your product; The system will pay for itself in a few years.

Our ambient humidity is effectively zip, so heating water is the only way. Well water would provide a great cold sink, but would need a heat source to encourage evaporation.
The well water will leave some components behind so the evap chamber will need fairly continuous cleaning/replacement.
It's a tough call, but I think I'll scrimp and save and spring for the $1.37
That's how they get you.
Somewhere around here I have a filter that would actually suffice for my purposes, but I don't know where. A very cool item, works based on principles of dialysis filters.
