Climate Change(d)?

Maybe if you relaxed a bit and stopped being so obsessed with CO2, you could manage this more rationally.

I’m chill bro. Nice 76 degree weather, Santa Monica pier standing firm from the onslaught of climate stuff. ☀️😎⛱️
Everybody was hit by the effects from the ship fuel cleanup.

Back at the start of May I did one of the enjoyable spring hikes, it goes up a canyon with a small snowmelt stream in it--but basically totally dry this year. Then someone in the group put it in proper perspective: not only was it awfully early for Fletcher to be dry, but it was awfully early to have even made it to the "end" (there's a big rock plugging the path) of the canyon.

Small change in temperature, big change in the results. Now all the vegetation in that canyon is going to be a lot drier. More will die in the summer, more chance of devastating fire, more trees lost to the bugs.

It is an enormous change in stored energy.

What drives storms is the difference in temperature. Warm air meets cold air on land, cold air meets warm sea over water. A temperature difference is like voltage across a battery.
The equation q = mcΔT calculates the heat (q) transferred to or from a substance, where 'm' is the mass, 'c' is the specific heat capacity, and 'ΔT' is the change in temperature. It's a fundamental formula in calorimetry and thermodynamics.

I know high school math probably is not your strong suit, but give it a try, you might learn something.
And warm enough water pumps energy into a storm over it. Enough pumping, we call it a hurricane.

And for some reason the government has cut off the data the hurricane forecasters use. I suspect it's about hiding any evidence of climate effects.

Do you think industrial and auto pollution controls are needed, or are they just a waste of money?

Before pollution controls was the air pollution in the La area a health risk or not?

We 'obsess' over it because it is not entirely variable, has an enormous impact upon the entire world we live in, and some of its variations can be controlled by us, to some extent, if we take appropriate actions to do so.

Rapture like cult.
MAGA is the real cult.

If I asked you why sea levels are rising causing coastal problems today on our coasts and islands that that are going under water what would say say is the cause of sea level rise?
Sea levels have risen and fallen over millennia. It’s just what happens and if you think you can change that, well you are just as delusional as any religious nut bar.
We unquestionably can change it.

Just the ship fuel cleanup by itself will eventually add several cm to the ocean. (And note that this is actually past change that was being suppressed by dirty fuel, not a rise due to clean fuel.) Doesn't sound like much but some cities already are spending billions to keep the storm surges out. Small changes in the average have big effects on the probability of things way out on the tail.

Moronic mantra. Utterly meaningless, but endless repetition has utility as an insulator against facts that no religious climate denyer can tolerate.

I honestly don’t know why people waste time on Swizzle or Barbos. I never put anyone on ignore but I generally ignore their posts. Every now and then I’ll respond to one of their fresh idiocies as the mood strikes me.

Yes, oceans have risen and fallen in the past, but that is not the question is it?

Exactly what natural phenomena is causing the current rapid rise in sea levels?

Ice at pole and glaciers melt, sea levels rise. What natural phenomena as has occurred in the past is at play today?

And how does your local temperature prove anything about climate change? Add some logic and reasoning if you think your local temperatures dispute climate change.

Sometimes I feel a duty to respond to misinformation whenever I see it, but often it doesn't seem to do much.

It is a statement of fact.

Exactly what natural phenomena is causing the current rapid rise in sea levels?

Rapid? lol. Not hardly.
BULLSHIT
Who told you that whopper?

The current rate of sea level rise is much faster than at any time in the past several millennia. For most of the last 2,000–3,000 years, sea level was relatively stable, with minor fluctuations and little overall change.
• Before the late 19th century: Sea level was nearly flat, with rates close to zero or even slightly negative at times.
• Since the late 1800s: The rate began to increase, reaching about 1.2–1.7 mm per year between 1900 and 1990.
• Since the 1990s: The rate has accelerated sharply, more than doubling to about 4.5 mm per year by 2024.
• Recent decades: The last 30 years have seen the fastest rates in at least 2,000 years, with global sea level rising by over 11 cm (4 inches) since 1993 alone.
This acceleration is driven mainly by human-caused climate change, particularly the melting of glaciers and ice sheets and the thermal expansion of warming ocean water.
BUT DONT LET FACTS GET IN THE WAY OF YOUR MAGA RELIGION!!

Stop projecting yourself on others. Must you believe everything that the felon you voted for does? And, why do you even read this thread if you don't understand and aren't willing to learn anything about the science of climate change? This is you when people try to explain how climate differs from weather. :lalala:

Definitely has this sort of feel.

Pot, meet kettle.

There is nothing to learn from your contributions. All you do is post alarmist propaganda interspersed with musings about how your fruit is early or it usually rains this time of year or your brother in law is a Trump supporter or something.

It's a hot day? CLIMATE CHANGE!!!11!!!11!!!

Just because I chuckle when someone pours custard down his own pants in an amusing way, that doesn't mean I would be unhappy if clowns ceased to exist.

They add nothing to life that I can't get elsewhere, and they are a little scary. But the occasional chuckle still arises.

Come on TSwizzle, go for the full Monty.

Do you think industrial and auto pollution controls are a waste of money?

Is there a link between air pollution and health problems?

Yes ocean levels are rising fast in geological tine scales.

Over the time of my life inhabited islands are going under water. Miami has been moving roads back from the shore. NYC is looking at ways to seal off subways from flooding. Alaskan coastal towns have to move back from the shore.

Here in PNW glaciers and snow packs are disappearing. There are time lapse pictures over the last 20-30 years.

So TSwizzle, what natural phenomena is causing the melts and sea rise?
