I did not say that men or white men were the biggest problem.
You used "overwhelming".
I did point out that most mass shootings of schools, churches, clubs, malls and concerts were committed by white males. That’s just a statement of statistics not an assignment of blame.
And yet statistics do not bear that out. At least not for mass shootings in general. What statistics do you base your statements that shootings at these venues are "overwhelmingly" the work of white men?
If we include the typical mass shooting category used by law enforcement ( 4 or more shooting victims in a single incident) , most are committed by makes.
Males sure, but white males specifically are underrepresented based on all stats I have seen, which use varying definitions of mass shootings.
You can blame it on testosterone if you like but that changes nothing. Testosterone is not an excuse or a valid explanation as only a small percentage of males shoot other people.
It is not an excuse, but it is a valid explanation for greater aggression levels of the male of the species.
This is one of the reasons that the society needs to channel aggression into safe channels, like sports.
But even if it were THE single thing responsible for all shootings of more than 3 individuals at a time, I seriously doubt you’d be suggesting that men be put in testosterone blockers at age 12. Nor would I or any other sane human being.
No, I wasn't suggesting anything like that. My statement was purely descriptive.
Acknowledging that males commit the majority of the acts of violence is acknowledging a fact.
I never said that it wasn't. But you combined it with white into "white males". I took an issue with that. It suggests that white males are somehow more violence-prone that other men, and data do not bear that out.
Focusing on my on that fact ignores that women are also capable of violence and even gun violence.
Yes, they certainly are. But too often when women commit violent crimes people from posters on this forum to Hilary Clinton offer excuses and downplay female violence.
Playing word games does nothing to address the underlying problem: violence and especially —but not exclusively —gun violence is a destructive force in the US. Compared with any other country on earth and you see a glaringly obvious difference between the US and other countries with respect to violence and that is the abundance and easy access to firearms in the US.
Many other countries have higher homicide rates than the US. So "any other country" is laying it on way too thick.
It is correct that US has higher homicide rate than other developed countries. But there is a huge discrepancy by race. The homicide rate is even more lopsided than mass shooting rate. Black homicide rate is 5-6x higher than white homicide rate in the US.
People in other countries hunt. They defend against wildlife when necessary. They shoot for sport. Just not other human beings.
Well, humans are the deadliest game of all.
People in other countries kill each other too. It's not something unique to US.
What makes us so goddam special? Why have we allowed the NRA to set policy for..,anything? Why have we decided it’s a big ho hum that the NRA has very substantial ties to Russia?
Yes, NRA opposes even sensible gun laws. On the other side, the gun grabbers want to go too far.
