The Emerald Downs rack is not open yet.

An atypical late season show, feet of snow in the mountains. People's cars are lined up in the passes trying to get to ski slopes.

Warming and low snowfall left ski slopes bare early in the year.

Checking in on Santa Monica.

Indeed, Long Beach is expected to hit 94 degrees Thursday afternoon, likely breaking the 92-degree record for the day set in 2007. Temperatures at the Santa Monica Pier are expected to reach 85 degrees Thursday, notably higher than the 78-degree record on March 12, 2015.

Air conditioning in La in March.
It isn't unprecedented to be hot in March, but it is supposed to be a record hot March, as in month, not one or two days. And some records are expected to be broken by a very strong margin or multiple degrees which is a lot for a month long average temperature.

It’s winter here. 80°.
Trees are budding, and will surely get frozen off.
March is supposed to be our snowiest month. Fortunately our well is still going.

But But .. records have always been broken.

we’ve had a bit of a heatwave this week in Los Angeles. The pool is heating up nicely and I think I may actually be able to get in it early this season. Fantastic!!

This happened here in North Central Georgia. We had temps well above average for many weeks in March, so the leaves started coming out, flowers that usually bloom in mid April started to bloom, and even dogwood trees started blooming about a month before normal. Then we had two very unusual nights were the temps dropped down to the upper 20s for several hours and all of the blooms died and the leaves on my little cut leaf maple look dead. Most of the other trees appear to be recovering.

Birds have been nesting well ahead of schedule so I hope most of the babies will survive. All of this mess is due to human caused issues, not only leading to climate change, but with the stupid idiot in the WH, pollution will be coming back. It's a mess.

Only an ignorant person denies climate change as the evidence is overwhelming.

It's simple. Climate change used to take thousands of years to occur but due to what humans have done to the environment, it's now happening in hundreds of years. Some people are too ignorant to tell the difference between climate and weather. The mad man in the WH is just making things worse with his drill baby drill along with taking away funds for science, building that damn wall on the border which is destroying lots of natural habitats, etc. It's amazing how one cult leader can do so much damage.

Omaha and Lincoln Nebraska broke their April all-time high temperature... in March.

I don't think NE Ohio set any records, but it was very warm in the morning yesterday, got hail in the late evening, and now it is bleeping cold (for 30 degrees) and windy today. Feels more like 30 in New England, than Ohio. March be like that... heck I remember sleet on May 1st. But we've been having a great deal more wind events.

For now it can be nice--but what's coming later???

Just did the Fletcher Canyon hike--six weeks early. Enough slush left that I turned back just before the end because I hadn't brought my spikes. Fletcher in March normally would mean snowshoes, not the one woman wearing a bikini top.

So what?

Been swimming all winter, but rarely making the mile that used to be my ritual.
Just got back from a short 1200 meter session a couple hours ago.
If I lived in Santa Monica I would certainly not have a pool.

Climate change seems to have been largely drooped from the news cycles.

There is reporting of a study that says within a few generations New Orleans will be under water.

Lake Pontchartrain is about 1 foot above sea level.

A Lake Pontchartrain levee failure would cause catastrophic, rapid flooding, with hundreds of billions of gallons of water pouring into New Orleans, which lies mostly below sea level. Similar to Hurricane Katrina, this would destroy thousands of homes, devastate infrastructure, endanger lives, and halt economic activity, creating severe long-term financial impacts.

Sea level rise plus loss of coastal wetlands.
