California Doing California Things

Families: the term "trad wife" has become a derogatory term directed toward women who want to have a traditional marriage i.e. husband and children. These comments are almost exclusively pointed toward white women and therefore white families.
You need to learn what the terms mean! "Trad wife" is not simply about having a husband and children, but about him being completely in control and she stays at home.
I could go on e.g. illegal immigration, support of Hamas, antisemitism, the university system, etc.
I don't think the university system is flawed as such. Studying the sciences tends to move people to the left.

I do agree there's a problem with with supporting things that should not be supported, but that's due to a very large and well planned campaign of misinformation. The right demonizes those who won't roll over for fascism, the left demonizes those who won't roll over for Islamic fundamentalism.

And few are interested in trying to teach people how to avoid falling for the propaganda because it would work both ways.
"Trad wife" is a pejorative term directed at white American families and nothing less; and how that's spun into the husband dominating the wife is flat out bizarre. Your interpretation is a paper thin attempt to provide cover for yet another reason so many people have been pushed away from voting for more progressive candidates.

The DNC could put a stop to this by vocally rejecting people who say shit like this. It's mostly young people espousing this absurd point of view and they don't show up to vote anyway.

The university system has become a farce when it comes to things like the social "sciences" along with the advocacy of radical political history and systems. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I went back to college fairly late in life and I came away with an understanding of why conservatives are so up in arms. The far left complains about "hate" to the point it's lost any meaning. Anything that one disagrees with = hate. Just like the instant accusations of racism, misogyny, etc., it's an attempt to shut down honest conversation. Case in point: a certain someone here took what I said about another subject and then performed contortions in order to accuse me of wanting trans people put in jail.

I didn't respond because it wasn't worthy of a response.

The understandable perception among millions is that they're not wanted--that the Dems have become a party of exclusion. Meanwhile the GOP welcomes all but the smallest demographics. The GOP and its horrifying support for Trump is awful beyond words but they're a lot smarter than the people running the DNC.
Andrew Tate and Andrew Tate adjacent manosphere “alpha males” are the purveyors of fine trad wives. There is no spin needed to portray the right wanting men to dominate wives when reading the words of Pete Hegseth’s preacher Doug Williams. Not sure why it is okay for the GOP to welcome such people and even protect them from prosecution, whereas it is a capital offense for a liberal to speak against systemic racism or implicit misogyny. Are we supposed to pretend that Doug Williams and Project 2025 don’t exist?
It's important to remember, the cornerstone of the GOP is angry white men and most white men are stupid. It's very easy to anger a stupid white man, which makes them easy to manipulate. Nothing a stupid white man is told has to be true or make sense. If it aligns with his preconceived ideas, it will not be examined. If you combine this message with the promise of some benefit without personal effort, it's a winning sales pitch. Tell them they should have a submissive(at least a 7) wife and you have an auditorium of bobbleheads all nodding for you. They are very happy. Now you tell them that liberals ruined all the submissive women by giving them rights and they get angry. They don't care that liberals are why there's a minimum wage, a 40 hour work week, and Social Security disability payments. Tell him that women won't talk to him because a liberal told her not to, and he is mad and looking for something to take it out on.

For a stupid white man, violence is not the first resort, but it's close to the top. One aspect of the stupid white man is an inability to see past Step 2. It simply never occurs to him that there might be a different future than the one he imagines.

This is how we get the fairly straightforward problem of Iran. It goes like this:
Iran wants a nuclear weapon because they think it will prevent us from bombing them.
Stupid white man reaction: Bomb them before they make a nuclear weapon.
Smart person asks:
Will that stop them from getting a nuclear weapon?
Stupid white man:
Maybe or maybe we keep bombing.
Smart person asks:
What about disruptions to the world energy market.
Stupid white man:
They can't disrupt anything. We bombed them.

Los Angeles officials announced plans to rebuild the historic Griffith Park Pool for a staggering $40 million. It is slated for completion by mid-2029. However, the eye-popping price tag has raised eyebrows, particularly after a plan outlined in July pegged the cost at $28 million.

News

Costs $40m and three years to complete a swimming pool!! No doubt this will turn into a clusterfuck where it will end up costing $100m+ and ten years before it's open.
Ridiculous. Shouldn't they first prioritize Griffith Park itself? I've never been there, but from what I understand, its overrun by drug dealers, homeless, unhoused people and the mentally ill. Who would want to fight all that on the way to going for a swim?

Many of the public parks in Los Angeles are overrun with "homeless" encampments or as I call them, open air psychiatric wards. When ICE agents staged a raid in McArthur Park not so long ago and LA mayor Karen Bass was screaming about "how dare this happen where children play soccer!!" was quite something because McArthur Park is overrun with junkies shooting up all over the place. McArthur Park should be the jewel in the crown for Los Angeles but it is a terrible place. Similarly, Echo Park in Glendale suffered the same. A beautiful park that has served the community for decades was turned over to the "homeless" rendering it unusable and unsafe for the people that actually have houses and pay taxes to use it for years. It was a huge struggle to get it cleaned up, activists did all they could to prevent the "homeless" getting kicked off but it was cleaned up recently. I went by it last summer, looked much better but I expect the homeless to take it over again. This happens all the time, "homeless" just pitch up and take over.

To be clear, I'm not talking about the current right wing in the U.S. In my opinion, most of those folks are a lost cause and not worth discussing. We know how bad they are and we know what kind of trouble we're in because of Trumpism and Evangelicals gaining so much power.

What I think is far more worthy of analysis is how the Dems lost to these authoritarians. In 2016, Trump was so obviously the worst candidate to ever run for POTUS in American history that I was looking forward to that bit of embarrassment being over so that we could continue on a more progressive path and get a majority on SCOTUS. Back then it seemed like a foregone conclusion that it was impossible that Trump could attain the White House; un-fucking-thinkable.

Yet here we are. States that went blue for Biden in 2020 went red for Trump in 2024. He won every swing state and improved in every demographic but one. IMO it came down to perception because when asked and given the option of what people wanted to see in policy without stating what party planned on instituting X policy, even those who voted for Trump actually wanted Dem policies. Thus, it's worth analysis and introspection on the part of the DNC.

Mitt Romney took a lot of shit for saying that the election would come down to a very small percentage of voters, but he was 100% correct and it's more true now than ever. We need to get those percentages back, so the question is how to do that.

I don't know about Griffith Park but I do know that many of the most interesting parts of L.A. and its surrounding areas have been so overrun with the homeless that they're no longer places that many people would take their kids.

I used to love to take mine to Hollywood for the Walk of Fame, the quirky shops, and the generally weird but fun atmosphere. Same with Venice Beach and the Santa Monica pier. It was always the very free and weird vibe that made those places so great. If I had grandchildren those places wouldn't be up for consideration. I wouldn't expose them to the way things are now.

It is a sad state of affairs in Los Angeles. Imagine taking your kid to softball and there is an encampment of junkies shooting up in right field.

I used to love to take mine to Hollywood for the Walk of Fame, the quirky shops, and the generally weird but fun atmosphere.

The couple of blocks around Grauman's Chinese Theatre have a lot of homeless in doorways and lying drugged out on the sidewalk. This area was pretty run down in the 90s but was revitalized in the 2000s and is now back to being pretty shit.

Same with Venice Beach and the Santa Monica pier. It was always the very free and weird vibe that made those places so great. If I had grandchildren those places wouldn't be up for consideration. I wouldn't expose them to the way things are now.

I haven't been to Venice Beach for years but I heard it's pretty bad. Santa Monica Pier will be gone soon because of climate change, don't worry about it. ;)

$2.4 million for the design of the project? That seems... high for a pool, but if this involves historic preservation, that'll shoot the cost of the project way up. Add cost of living as it impacts prevailing wages... it adds up. However, $40 million seems quite a bit high, but admittedly relatively cheap compared to the design fee.

I remember doing work within the National Park and there was a bridge and a person had ideas about to embellish it, and the guy in charge says 'ya got enough for the bridge'... a couple times through the meeting. Some projects just become the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. I'm just glad the NY Post is around to report on how cost estimates for projects can increase, for all projects across America.

The easy retort is to compare the reproductive organs of the Democrats that lost 2016 and 2024 with the Democrat that won in 2020. But the huge drop in vote in California doesn't make that answer seem very satisfying. The exit polling implies people voted for Trump because economy and prices. Even women that supported reproductive choice voted in stupid numbers for Trump... because money. Biden, like HW Bush was taken down by the public perception of the economy.
Yet here we are. States that went blue for Biden in 2020 went red for Trump in 2024. He won every swing state and improved in every demographic but one. I want to add an asterisk. Because, in general, those states Harris lost, the Democrats held in the Senate. That sends mixed messages about what is wrong with the voting public that they'd reelect a man that incited a riot in DC that required Congress to evacuate.

You've heard of toothpaste and the tube, right? Colorado and Virginia are DARK BLUE STATES now. How does the GOP undo that? They can't.

What the GOP has successfully done is worked at infiltrating the Union worker stronghold. The people that lost their jobs to overseas manufacturing, much to the joy of the Republican Party, are now supporting the Republican Party (or Trump at least) to bring it back, which it will never do. You can't undo that. The GOP also did a great job of turning a very small transgender population into an epic fight to save women across the nation!

Gotta wonder, Swiz; how is a fucking pool anywhere near as bad or as painful for you personally as is your rapist Felon’s “Not Epstein” war that costs over $2,500,000,000.00 PER DAY* in direct costs, neglecting the damage to the global economy, domestic energy prices and the grift payments to and from his contractor buddies who will “have to” replace all the munitions he’s blowing with new and improved million dollar rockets to take out $200 drones?
THAT is costing you and every taxpayer $20/day on the front end, and that’s just your down payment on perpetual and growing financial duress yet to come. If you’re mot Santa Monica beachfront rich, you’re fucked. And not because of a pool.

Clearly not. That would explain the LA all the trash articles by them on California. I'm not quite certain why you think the NY Post printing rag in California now would be common knowledge. Also, the link goes to the NY Post header site. You'd need to look around to notice the CA/NY switch. Being out west might default you to the CA Post switch.

Apparently this was announced in 2025. Among other things I didn't know, Hamilton founded the NY Post.

I do appreciate you actually explaining it though... after several posts.
