No, this isn't about the quid quo pro for the no-bid contract for the work. No, it isn't about how the project was ridiculously stupid and how the company who did the work under the Obama Admin said 'no thanks' because the schedule wasn't achievable. Instead, this is about the source of the vandalism that very possibly helps cause the problem in the first place...

...the Trump Admin.

Before the event, the National Park Service asked Greenwater Services, which won a $1.7 million no-bid contract to install the nanobubblers, to remove them, according to two people briefed on the decision. The people asked for anonymity because they feared retaliation from the administration. The Park Service did not provide a reason for the removal, but it coincided exactly with the promotional event, which drew crowds to the Reflecting Pool.

...

But by the time the purification systems were reinstalled 36 hours later, enormous algae blooms were starting to spread unchecked, turning the water green.

....

The decision to remove the water-treatment systems, which has not previously been reported, was one of several missteps that have plagued Mr. Trump’s $16.4 million renovation of the Reflecting Pool. There have been no-bid contracts, peeling strips of waterproof coating in Mr. Trump’s handpicked shade of “American flag blue,” and even a dead duck floating in the water (though it is not clear if the renovation had anything to do with the duck’s demise).
So, it appears quite possible, that the green algae bloom was helped along... by none other than the Trump Administration in order to improve optics for the UFC event.

It takes a lot of effort to follow the wondrous twists and turns of Trump's brain -- it must be what giving a giraffe a colonoscopy entails. But here is what I gather, from his statements to the WH press corps:
> the problems with the RP do not stem from the job the contractor did. Instead, vandals got to it in the 'dead of night'. (Somehow, the video clip that Fox ran was taken in broad daylight and seems to show a tourist dipping one hand into the water.)
> a vandal, using a knife or a box cutter (which he told us a few weeks ago couldn't possibly damage the lining) made a 350 foot gash in the pool.
Okay. So, at a site with multiple surveillance cameras, we have a vandal or vandals wading in the pool for 350 feet (the length of a football field), wielding some sharp blade and cutting a deep gash in the lining. Can we have a video or at least a photo of that gash? Can we have a technician telling us that the gash has been measured? Furthermore, how long would a vandalism caper like that take? 45 minutes? An hour? The RP's depth is a foot and a half at the edges, going down to two and a half feet in the middle. You would have to be on all fours, crawling along, slicing and slicing, sloshing noisily in view of multiple cameras. Besides the lack of video coverage of this sensational crime, I'm unclear on one Trumpian point. Is there supposed to be a connection between the 350' gash and the algae blooms? How exactly do those two things coincide? Also, how does a gash produce multiple floating flaps of loose paint coming to the surface?
Could...could President 45/47...could he possibly be lying to us??? Or am I just one of the very stupid people who are just not tuned into what many people are saying? Thank you for your attention to this matter.

How does removing the purification system improve any sort of optics?

Unless it's to deflect from the optics around how Trump is a pedophile and fucked children?

Project failed successfully, since people are talking about this instead of the fact that Trump fucked an island's worth of children, and likely ran a business similar to Epstein at the Mar-a-lago Resort of his own making, with such recent features as "the closet of state secrets" and "direct foreign access to the president", but still offered alongside the old standby of "massages" given by 16 year olds.

Let's not forget why a national monument was defaced, shall we?

It was above ground, not too far from a viewing area for the UFC event. It'd been behind them, but we understand Trump and his vanity.

I am shocked, shocked to find incompetence in Trump!!!!

What is ironic is that thinking anyone who would be attracted to the UFC match would either notice or appreciate a still Reflecting Pool. Really, I'm surprised that there are no pictures of yahoos pissing in that pool.

So, to make his event appear better? I don't see why a swampy pool helps him appear better.

Like, step 1, remove filters; step 2, pool turns green, step 3 people go to fight, step 4 ?????, step 5 Trump looks better.

The only way this works is if he wanted people to all be in one place to see the pool turning green?

I'm not sure how removing filters would improve his optics in any way, other than as a distraction?

Like, I'm specifically curious about the link of how removing the water filters improves his optics.

I get the cause proposed (removing filters) and the effect (improved optics) is missing a very important part of the transformation showing what features of the act interact with what features of present nature to create an effect where Trump looks "good" rather than "bad, at just the right time to distract from other badness".

Alligator Alcatraz was closed -- allegedly because hurricane season is here (wonderful planning!!)
Camp East Montana is closed -- after multiple horror stories of medical crises and neglect (the stuff that gives Stephen Miller a chub.)
Why can't the parks dept. put floating platforms in the Reflecting Pool and settle the undocumented immigrants on them? Surely our MAGA friends would like to gawk at them. Algae Alcatraz. You read about it here first.

We can send men to the moon and back, but apparently in 100 years of trying, we have never figured out how to keep the Reflecting Pool algae free.

You would think that engineers using advanced algaebraic mathematics could figure out a solution.

Actually I wonder if it counts as a pun if the pun is only in evidence when read, not when spoken...

Because the morons didn't realize what the visible systems do. And they were too stupid to realize how quickly the algae would bloom.

Ok, so "the visible water filtration equipment was removed because it was deemed an eyesore".

That's the mechanism I was looking for "the equipment itself was visible/bulky/aboveground"

Unfuckingbelievable this is a thread topic.
It's an important, international story. Even the Middle East news outlet Al Gaezeera has reported on it.

Surprised that posted. Guess I'm not banned yet.

The reflecting pool fuckup is like Trump,s entire term wrapped up in one incident.

He does what he wants regardless of the law.

He does not consult experts

He corruptly gives the work to his friends regardless of the law

He fucks it up and blames others

Trunp always fucks up

He also tells lie after lie after lie that are all PROVABLE lies, that anyone with a functioning adult brain, regardless of your political slant, should realize are lies. And yet it does not bring him down. His most toxic lies do irreparable damage to immigrants and catastrophic damage to our election system. This is the legacy and the historic rap sheet of the RNC.

Well, this is because they need distractions, and scandals produce that distraction.

I want to say the current crop of distractions are for smoke screening the KOSA push, which is positioned to outright nuke the open internet
