Here Comes The Left

Your statement reminds me of when during the Biden administration Dems tried to pretend that everything was infrastructure in order to pass Spendapalooza.
Spendapalooza Spendapalooza Spendapalooza. Dwarfed by the spending of the Trump administration. Yet nary a mention of it by you.

Here is the original ProPublica story.

Understandable.

The police confronted her with a big contradiction in her story, she recanted.
Forced her to recant instead of doing a proper investigation.
Recanting was offered, not forced.

It sounds like she took the non-confrontation option rather than address the problems with her story. I don't understand why she was prosecuted but ProPublica tends to present a pretty lopsided picture.
She was prosecuted. Is that not forced???

There were no problems with her story.

The idea that there was an unusual degree of inconsistency in Marie's statement is Loren's supposition which he made in order to blame the victim for the utter failure of the cops to do their jobs properly.

Everything Marie reported was corroborated with evidence. Everything that she said about the rapist was instrumental in linking her rape to the rapes of other women and ultimately in identifying the rapist.

The only "inconsistency" was she didn't act like a rape victim in the movies, she acted like one IRL.

If you go to the end of that Pro Publica article you will find this:

After O’Leary was linked to Marie’s rape, Lynnwood Police Chief Steven Jensen requested an outside review of how his department had handled the investigation. In a report not previously made public, Sgt. Gregg Rinta, a sex crimes supervisor with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, wrote that what happened was “nothing short of the victim being coerced into admitting that she lied about the rape.”
That Marie recanted wasn’t surprising, Rinta wrote, given the “bullying” and “hounding” she was subjected to. The detectives elevated “minor inconsistencies” — common among victims — into discrepancies, while ignoring strong evidence the crime had occurred. As for threatening jail and a possible withdrawal of housing assistance if Marie failed a polygraph: “These statements are coercive, cruel, and unbelievably unprofessional,” Rinta wrote. “I can’t imagine ANY justification for making these statements.”
In a recent interview, Steve Rider, the current commander of Lynnwood’s Criminal Investigations Division, called Marie’s case a “major failing” that has left members of the department with a profound sense of regret: “Knowing that she went through that brutal attack — and then we told her she lied? That’s awful. We all got into this job to help people, not to hurt them.” Lynnwood Sgt. Rodney Cohnheim said of Marie, “She was victimized twice.”

Sgt. Mason is now back in narcotics, in charge of a task force. Interviewed in the same room where he had confronted Marie seven years before, he said: “It wasn’t her job to try to convince me. In hindsight, it was my job to get to the bottom of it — and I didn’t.”

Please pay attention this time Loren, especially to the statement from one of the cops who received Marie's initial report. It's not the job of the traumatized victim to lay out all the evidence in a coherent statement, with the facts all in order and properly supported. It's the investigator's job to ascertain the facts and make sense of the report, especially when the victim or witness is likely still in shock.

In Loren’s opinion, it is the job of women to shut up and take it and if they don’t like it, just be more careful next time.

Unless the rapist is black.

I think it's worse than that.

Loren will jump to the defense of a guy accused of rape, especially a college student. He will rail against witch hunts and kangaroo courts. He will decry young men being coerced into accepting unjust outcomes like suspensions when they fear being expelled. But given a clear cut case where the person falsely accused is a young woman, all his objections suddenly disappear. His entire focus has been to blame the victim of rape for being disbelieved by cops who ignored investigative standards and threatened her with prison for her repeated attempts to report it.

He appears to think Marie deserved to be villified and is perfectly willing to invent reasons why.

Again, this is a thread titled "Here comes the Left". Not "Let's have some more Trump whataboutisms".

Besides, it is the failures of the Biden administration - including him abandoning his moderate past and governing in a far more fauxgressive fashion - that enabled Trump to win reelection.

It does not matter to you that it was proven she was raped. That the police were proven to be at fault with not pursuing her claim of rape

Wow

Police and courts sometimes get it wrong. No system is perfect. All we can do is learn from mistakes and strive to have more just enforcement, investigations and trials.

But police and the court getting it wrong in this case is not a reason to blindly believe whatever a woman says about rape. It is also not a reason not to prosecute an accuser if there is sufficient evidence that she made a false accusations.
Just like police and courts getting it wrong about an innocent man accused of rape is not a reason not to investigate rape claims and prosecute the suspect if there is sufficient evidence to go to trial.

You never mention it ib Trump threads too. You're not fooling anyone.

Trump wan't running against Biden.

And name Biden policies that most people didn't like.

So I take it, if someone makes a thread titled "capitalism is good" and only gushes about capitalism, no one is allowed to voice a contrary opinion because the thread is about how capitalism is good? That's not how discussion boards work, Derec.

No one is saying blindly believe whatever a woman says. But the linked article plus other articles about the same incident demonstrate what not uncommonly happens when a woman or girl or presumably man reports rape.

This demonstrates one reason so few victims of sexual assault do not report. The other reasons are so easily found in posts on various forums.

You forgot to mention the epic irony of the whataboutism master complaining about a whataboutism.

I recall Derec making plenty of whataboutisms himself in other threads. I'm sure he really does have a super principled stance against whataboutisms though.

The party that happily kills immigrants, irrespective of status, and makes real men with testosterone boosters can do no wrong.

In the News, Mamdani s a mini Trump in the making. Weaponize justice system to act out personal dislikes. I do think Netanyahu should be somehow held accountable, but like Trump Madman will bend the justice system to suit his views.

AI Overview
Yes, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is currently in active discussions with the city's Law Department to explore the legal feasibility of directing the NYPD to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu is wanted under an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. The Mayor has stated he wants to enforce this warrant if Netanyahu enters New York City for the United Nations General Assembly in September.

AI Overview
Yes, generally, foreign heads of state (such as presidents, prime ministers) and senior officials (like foreign ministers) receive broad diplomatic immunity while in office. This protection is recognized under customary international law and extends to criminal prosecution and civil lawsuits to allow leaders to freely conduct foreign relations.

In my neighborhood over the weekend people were on the street corners promoting Kshama Sawant for congress. An ex city council ember. She once defined herself as communist and belonged to a communist organization. She advocated tearing down the system and replacing it with what she calls true democracy, without details.

The woman on he street who stopped me agreed that Sawant said she wants to tear everything down, but disputed her being communist, she is socialist. I’d guess she changed her stripes to run for congress. The woman on the street jumped into a rehearsed dissertation on how socialist is not communism. I said in this case socialism can be a code word for communism. She got angry and said she would not talk to me anymore because I do not want to hear the truth. She walked away.

Sawant’s rhetoric is Marxist. She was defund the police and had a hand destroyer Seattle police department. She and others got voted out after policies went bad.

As has been debated here socialism has no singe meaning and is contextual.

If we were to move to a form of socialism people like Mamdani and Sawant have no capacity to me it work. Nter grew up in America or western culture, both cane with a bias.

Imagine a Mamdani in the WH and a majority in congress of Sawants. The flip side of Trump et al.

A democrat in congress said hthe social democrats should break off into their own party, they do not represent democratic party values.

I don’t think the socialists/social democrats have a clue of exactly what they want to do and hiow to do it. Manama wants to create NYC run grocery stores. It is all rhetoric and slogans.

This is typical of our regional, local, and state progressives. The state and Seattle is chronically short of money.

The progressives. Don’t just provide free school lunch for those that need it. Make it free for all. When budget falls sortie, find seasoned or something to tax.

This example is probably the tip of the iceberg. There is no funding problem, there is a spending and management problem.

AI Overview
A scathing forensic audit of the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA) revealed roughly $13 million in public funds are unaccounted for, combined with a nearly $45 million negative cash balance. The missing money is largely attributed to "outrageous" bookkeeping and systemic failures, rather than outright fraud. The city's hotel and motel shelter programs have faced significant financial scrutiny. While King County’s Health Through Housing initiative acquired several hotels for transitional and permanent living, other temporary hotel programs were entirely dismantled after running out of funding. In other cases, city-leased hotel spaces sat deliberately vacant, contributing to local frustrations about wasted tax dollars. The fallout from the KCRHA forensic audit has resulted in a massive push to restructure or entirely dissolve the agency:Leadership & Oversight: The KCRHA has been ordered to freeze all hiring and discretionary spending. The agency's leadership insisted that there was no criminal fraud, though poor records led to at least $8 million in "unreconciled receivables".Dismantling the Agency: Several Seattle and King County Councilmembers (such as Maritza Rivera) are actively drafting resolutions to dismantle KCRHA and return the responsibility of addressing homelessness directly to the city and county.FEMA & State Funds: The KCRHA and other local advocacy groups, like the Lived Experience Coalition, have faced intense criticism for mismanaging federal, state, and local social services funds used for temporary hotel stays.Would you like to know more about the specific programs affected, the corrective action deadlines issued to the KCRHA, or recent spending data for the region?

The City of Seattle and King County have spent nearly $1 billion addressing homelessness over the last decade, with Seattle alone allocating approximately $100 million annually. Despite these expenditures, the unhoused population in the county has continued to rise, recently surpassing 18,000 individuals.

When pressed on homelessness our new mayor says we will spend more money.

Zero evidence he'll do that, but OK.

A mayor asks the police to look into whether it is lawful for them to arrest a wanted man, for whom a court has issued a warrant?

That's clearly immoral, digusting and communistic behaviour.

We can't have police going around arresting people just because a court has issued a warrant! Where would it end?

I think the right has been selling that accusation/admission for quite a while. Steve tends to suck at that teat overly often IMHO.

Local American police arresting someone who has a warrant out for him from a foreign country?
